The Zehnder Lab at Cornell University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to perform research on the failure of soft materials.  Research will be under the direction of Prof. Alan Zehnder.  The successful candidate will be part of a small team consisting of Profs. Zehnder and C.Y. Hui and a Ph.D. student, working to understand, quantify and model time dependent damage leading to fracture in soft materials.  The role is primarily experimental but, depending on the candidate’s interests and expertise, may involve theoretical and/or computational modeling. 

The nominal start date of this position is April 1, 2024 but a flexible start date is possible. The initial appointment will be for one year,  with the possibility of an extension depending on satisfactory performance and budget availability. 

We seek an Applied Statistician to work as a Research Associate to lead the development and advancement of methods in machine learning and causal analysis to integrate data from the North American Breeding Bird Survey (BBS), a long-term volunteer survey run by the USGS, and from eBird, a popular citizen science project run by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, to produce spatially explicit estimates of population trends and trajectories for > 400 bird species. The successful candidate will formally evaluate the complementarity of both data sets under a rigorous framework, and develop the methodology needed to extend the double machine learning framework (DML) currently used to estimate trends from eBird data. This project is a partnership with researchers at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, Cornell University, and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. The Aydemir’s lab of Molecular Nutrition in the Division of Nutritional Sciences is seeking a full-time postdoctoral researcher. Dr. Aydemir’s research group investigates the metabolism and transporter-mediated function of micronutrients, zinc, and manganese in mammalian systems. These studies involve the integration of the techniques in biochemistry, molecular, cellular biology, neuroscience, and physiology to micronutrient biology and related disorders. The ideal candidate for this position would be a motivated individual able to work independently. The successful candidate will be expected to perform in vitro cell culture assays and in vivo laboratory animal (mice) research. This is a one-year appointment with a possibility of renewal depending upon satisfactory job performance and funding availability.

 The Li Lab is interested in elucidating complex plant natural product biosynthetic pathways and developing genetic circuits using synthetic biology in yeast and Nicotiana benthamiana. The lab uses a combination of synthetic biology, molecular biology, plant biochemistry, metabolic engineering, and multi-omics approaches. The focus of this person’s research would be on the connection between hurricanes and regional economics with a particular emphasis to understanding the implications of different policy options for low-income households and how the consequences of different policy pathways could be impacted by evolving climate.

The Department of Psychology in the College of Human Ecology at Cornell University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate for up to a 2-year period beginning fall 2022. The successful candidate will work on a currently

funded study investigating the value of youth-driven learning on positive youth development. Despite a substantial and growing research literature on curiosity, resilience, and purpose in life, there remain a small number

Applications are sought for a postdoctoral fellow position in Putnam Lab at Cornell University. The position is joint between the Meinig School of Biomedical Engineering and the Smith School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. The successful applicant will lead and support research projects focused on the design and synthesis of functional biomaterials. A Postdoctoral Associate position is open in the Johnson lab to study how dietary intake of bioactive lipids and production of bioactive lipids from the gut microbiome can influence mammalian phenotypes. The Johnson lab uses genetic, genomic, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) based-lipidomic approaches to understand lipid-dependent host-microbe interactions. Candidates should have strong computational skills, ideally with a focus on water resources systems modeling at the river-basin scale. Experience with high-performance computing, uncertainty analysis, and coupled human-natural systems modeling is desirable. Additionally, emerging advancements in control and machine learning (e.g., deep reinforcement learning) are of interest but not required.  Ideally, candidates would have a Ph.D. in water resources engineering, hydrology, or a related field. The focus of this research will be on the risks, resilience, and sustainability of major regional water resources systems (e.g., the Mid-Atlantic, the Colorado River Basin, and the Central Valley). The research will have a particular emphasis on understanding the implications of human responses to evolving climate extremes.

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join our research team as a Postdoctoral Researcher in Engineering Education. This position is part of an exciting project aimed at developing an innovative engineering teamwork assessment tool using evidence-centered design. This position entails field work and laboratory-based research examining forest nitrogen dynamics over winter, how these processes will change with warming winters and reduced snowpacks, and how they compare to summer conditions. The primary focus of this position is to lead a cross-season isotopic tracer (15N) study of plant, soil and microbial processes at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.  This position is based on Cornell’s campus in Ithaca, NY, with travel to Hubbard Brook. The Critical Infrastructure Systems Lab is developing the next generation of computational models to study the feedbacks and interactions between climate, water, and power systems. In this project, you will contribute to a core element of this modelling effort, namely a coupling toolkit that allows to dynamically link different computational models. Job responsibilities include: (1) architecting a model coupling toolkit, (2) implementing and testing the toolkit on a high-performance computing cluster, (3) analysing simulation results (applications will be drawn from a variety of existing water and power system models), and (4) publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting results at scientific conferences. The Nwosu lab has positions for two postdoctoral associates. Applicants should be enthusiastic about conducting research on cancer metabolism and specifically on delineating the role of glutathione (GSH) in pancreatic cancer. The project has various multidisciplinary contexts including a link to the tumor microenvironment/immunology, tumor subtypes, transcriptional and epigenetic regulation as well as therapeutic resistance. The project will require the use of cell lines and mouse models to mechanistically determine how GSH promotes cancer and the effect of targeting the GSH pathway on tumor growth. The successful applicants will have access to various already existing data that will ensure a smooth commencement of the project. Prof. Vibha Kalra’s research group at Cornell University (Ithaca, NY, USA) is seeking applicants for two postdoctoral associate positions on “Next Generation Batteries”. The project(s) will involve material development for next generation batteries, advanced electrochemical, spectroscopic, and microscopic characterizations (including in-situ/in-operando) and battery recycling. The Enhancing Abilities Lab and the Virtual Embodiment Lab (PIs: Shiri Azenkot and Andrea Stevenson Won) at Cornell Tech and Cornell University are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral associate to work on an interdisciplinary research project to examine how principles of guiding, especially haptic feedback, can be used to improve human-agent interactions in challenging environments, specifically underwater diving. As part of this initiative, and in collaboration with the RealITHASC lab led by the third co-PI, Silvia Ferrari, our DoD-funded project aims to develop diving simulators in virtual reality that can be used to prototype human-agent interactions.

A Postdoctoral Fellow or Research Associate position is available in the Flyak laboratory in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Cornell University. A candidate will drive a fully funded antibody-discovery project.

At the Flyak lab at Cornell University, we study human antibody response to viral pathogens. We are currently focused on discovering the main principles of effective antibody response to the highly genetically diverse Hepatitis C virus – a leading cause of chronic liver disease and liver cancer. The candidate will use cross-disciplinary tools to dissect human antibody response to Hepatitis C virus. Working with other Flyak lab members, the candidate will also contribute to the structural characterization of isolated antibodies and the development of a prophylactic HCV vaccine. This postdoctoral position is funded by an R01 grant (1R01AG082954-01) from the National Institute on Aging in collaboration with Northwestern University. The project is titled “Advancing the Study of Social Isolation, Loneliness, and Cognitive Functioning in Older Adults Through the Use of Integrative Data Analysis.”

The Proteomics Postdoctoral Associate will assist the Director of the BRC Proteomics and Metabolomics Facility in the development and implementation of various sample preparation techniques and LC-/MS/MS techniques for proteomics analysis, and subsequent MS data interpretation involved in an NIH funded project about mechanistic studies of Alzheimer’s disease. The Tako Lab conducts multidisciplinary research that links between the research fields of Food Science and Nutrition. Overall research focuses on various aspects of (a) dietary trace mineral deficiencies, cause and effects, with emphases on the physiological and nutritional factors and practices that influence the intestinal absorption of micronutrients, specifically iron and zinc. (b) the characterization of the individual and interactive effects of dietary minerals (Fe/Zn), phytochemicals and prebiotics common to staple foods on the intestinal microbiome and BBM functionality. Evaluation of plant origin bioactive compounds extracted from food crops on mineral (Fe, Zn) dietary bioavailability and absorption in vivo.  In this context, we use approaches that utilize both cellular and unique animal (Gallus gallus, both hatchling and embryonic) models to assess mineral bioavailability of staple food crops, and plant origin bioactive compounds. In general, my research is focused at: 1. Alleviating dietary mineral deficiencies in at-risk populations; 2. The development of a novel zinc status physiological blood biomarker (the LA:DGLA ratio); 3.      The study of the effects of mineral deficiencies (Zn and Fe) on the intestinal brush border membrane functionality using the Gallus gallus model; 4. The interplay between nutrient intake and gene expression (nutrigenomics) relevant to Fe and Zn deficiency; 5. The interactions between host Fe and Zn status and the gut microbiome; and 6. The characterization of the individual and interactive effects of dietary minerals (Fe/Zn), phytochemicals and prebiotics common to staple foods (chickpea, bean, wheat, lentil) on the intestinal microbiome and BBM functionality. The Meredith Lab in Cornell University’s Department of Public and Ecosystem Health is seeking an outstanding research support specialist/postdoctoral associate in the area of public health systems optimization. This position involves proposal development, designing and conducting research, managing projects, supporting students and other personnel, coordinating with partners, and writing research manuscripts. The candidate will pursue established questions, and will also have latitude to develop their own questions within the context of on-going projects or other topics that our group works on.
Our group broadly explores strategies to optimize public health systems design, function, and utilization, primarily with field studies. We are interested in methods that ensure right-fit skills and capacities at the right place and time, and systems optimization that supports strategic decision making to advance health equity and impacts. Specifically, we are investigating post-pandemic public health systems re-development in areas topic areas related to communicable disease prevention, cardiometabolic disease prevention, mental health and wellbeing support, and health services utilization. Current project work is focused on public health in the U.S., particularly among rural communities.

The Division of Nutritional Sciences at Cornell University seeks to fill a USDA-funded Postdoctoral Associate position focused on community-based nutrition and physical activity interventions. This individual will be supervised by Dr. Laura Bellows and join an interdisciplinary research team focused on the development of healthful eating and physical activity behaviors and environments for young children and their caregivers (parents and educators). CAROW provides a platform for new interdisciplinary approaches, innovative methods, and nimble resourcing with the goal of bringing high quality research to bear on the challenges facing today’s labor markets and connecting that research to external stakeholders and policy makers. Utilizing trainings, convenings, and new tool development CAROW advances the work of faculty and institutes conducting translational labor research and brings them together to drive new insights.

The Cornell Lab of Ornithology, part of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, is a global leader in ornithological and biodiversity research and conservation and is also known for its vibrant postdoc community. Within the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the K. Lisa Yang Center for Conservation Bioacoustics (Yang Center) is known for developing and applying novel bioacoustics techniques to biodiversity conservation. The Yang Center’s main pillars include ecological research, hardware and software engineering, and global capacity building. We are an interdisciplinary, multi-PI research endeavor filled with passionate individuals from various backgrounds dedicated to conserving a wide diversity of marine and terrestrial taxa and ecosystems around the world.

The Breeding Insight (BI) program at Cornell University has two (2) openings for a postdoctoral scientist working on the collaborative USAID-funded Feed the Future Climate Resilient Cereals Innovation Lab (CRCIL) consortium led by Kansas State University with partners including Clemson University, Cornell University, Delaware State University, Kansas State University, Louisiana State University, the University of Florida, and international collaborators. Current international partners include the Bangladesh Rice Research Institute, Bangladesh, the Senegalese Institute of Agricultural Research, Senegal, and the Ethiopian Institute of Agriculture Research, Ethiopia. CRCIL will work on four major grain crops (wheat, rice, millet, and sorghum) across multiple global regions including South Asia, Western Africa, Eastern and Southern Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean. Breeding Insight is composed of software developers and scientists with expertise in genomics, statistics, plant breeding, animal breeding, data management, phenomics, and bioinformatics. Breeding for climate resilience in major staple grain crops will be key for the world population living in food-scarce locations. These locations are among the most vulnerable to climate change including severe weather events, off-season flooding and drought, pest and disease migration, and soil erosion. One of Breeding Insight’s aims is to accelerate breeding efforts by integrating the use of phenomics (trait analysis) with genomics and natural variation to increase the rate of genetic gain to create healthy, nutritious, and sustainable cereal varieties. To accomplish these objectives, the Breeding Insight program integrates with selected national agricultural research institute (NARI)-based teams (based at research locations in key countries representing South Asia, Western Africa, Eastern and Southern Africa, and Latin America and the Caribbean) and scientific and software development teams.

The Postdoctoral Associate will be affiliated with ILR’s Experimental Psychology and Organizations Lab (ExPO Lab), a group of micro organizational behavior and human resources researchers who seek to advance knowledge about fundamental psychological processes relevant to human attitudes, cognitions and behavior in organizations. The Postdoctoral Associate will actively contribute to the research mission of the lab, including working on joint projects with ExPO Lab faculty and students, while also moving their own independent research projects toward publication. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research interests align with ExPO Lab faculty members’ ongoing research activities.
