The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Law and Computer Science. Qualified candidates are sought for a postdoc position based in the lab of Pierluigi (Enrico) Bonello in the Department of Plant Pathology at The Ohio State University. Available immediately for 12 months and potentially renewable, based on availability of funds and satisfactory performance. The project aims to provide a detailed risk map for beech leaf disease (BLD) using species distribution modeling (SDM) and machine-learning approaches across the full distribution of American beech. The work will be based, in part, on the work by [1].

Conduct experiments to 1) compare dsRNA segments generated from different regions of Ago2 and their corresponding RNA secondary structures for SIGS; 2) determine the effects of perturbing homeostasis of a protein associated with RNA interference by a miRNA with varying base-pairing schemes; 3) validate predicted cross-species miRNAs generated from a common mycoparasite that can target genes of members of the family Sclerotiniaceae simultaneously. We will compare the effectiveness of SIGS on sunflower, edible snapbean, and dry beans for which transgenic approaches such as host-induced gene silencing are not feasible. As a postdoctoral scholar, you will conduct independent research under the guidance of a scientific mentor, focusing on the domains of ovarian and endometrial cancer research. Your study will center on elucidating the mechanisms through which TMEM205 mediates the downregulation of the tumor suppressor protein PIAS3 in high-grade serous ovarian cancer (HGSOC). This knowledge is crucial for the development of innovative strategies for both prevention and targeted treatments. Evidence suggests that secretory epithelial cells within the distal fallopian tube (FT) may be the primary origin point for most HGSOC cases. Additionally, a growing body of data implicates members of the transmembrane (TMEM) protein family as oncogenic factors. In this study, you will investigate whether TMEM205 enhances the proliferation of fallopian tube secretory epithelial cells (FTSECs) and HGSOC cells by augmenting the secretion of extracellular vesicles (EVs) containing specific proteins. Furthermore, you will explore whether TMEM205 contributes to the progression of HGSOC by downregulating PIAS3. Moreover, the identification of a distinct EVs protein signature unique to HGSOC holds the potential to serve as a valuable biomarker for HGSOC. This research carries significant promise for translating laboratory findings into practical clinical applications that can benefit patients with HGSOC. It will also provide you with the opportunity to actively participate in and gain valuable experience in clinical and translational studies, particularly within the context of ovarian and endometrial cancer research.

Our lab focuses on axon-glia interactions and how glial metabolism regulates axon integrity and myelination (e.g., Nature Neuroscience, PMID 32807950; Nature Neuroscience, PMID 25195104; PNAS, PMID 28484008). Current projects include in vivo and in vitro mechanistic studies on how metabolic perturbations in oligodendrocytes result in compromised axon integrity and research on metabolic adaptations in Schwann cells/oligodendrocytes that support the survival of injured axons.

Our laboratory is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to pursue postgraduate training under the guidance of Dr. Regan Memmott, MD, PhD, who is a physician-scientist and thoracic oncologist, as well as a member of the Translational Therapeutics Program within the Comprehensive Cancer Center at the Ohio State University. She leads a translational research program that identifies mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for lung cancer and develops therapeutic strategies to overcome these mechanisms. Our laboratory incorporates basic and translational techniques using cell culture and mouse models of lung cancer, as well as clinical sample analysis. Preclinical studies conducted by our group have led to the development of an investigator-initiated trial in patients evaluating a novel drug combination for the treatment of EGFR-mutant lung cancer. We are also investigating the molecular mechanisms that promote an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (TME) in lung cancers driven by certain driver mutations, and how to target these mechanisms to improve the immunocompetency of the TME. Candidates are encouraged to pursue their interests related to the development of drugs that target cellular signaling pathways and immuno-oncology under the mentorship of Dr. Memmott. Opportunities to be involved in the development of clinical trial protocols and correlative studies are also available.

Post-Doctoral Scholar to pursue specialized research training, education and experience under the guidance of a scientific mentor; plans, designs and executes experiments of considerable scope and complexity in the study of the role of innate and adaptive immune system in cardiovascular diseases; collects and analyzes data for research sponsored by the National Institute of Health (NIH), as well as by other agencies; identifies and selects problems to be studied; develops and troubleshoots new experimental techniques and protocols; attends research seminars; contributes to manuscript preparation and supports technical writing; participates in preparation of grant applications for extramural funding.

Post Doctoral Scholar will carry out a vigorous program of research of their own design, working independently and/or in collaboration with Ohio State faculty. Researchers in all areas of theoretical and observational astronomy will be considered. Current research interests at Ohio State include active galactic nuclei, cosmology and large-scale structure, exoplanets, Galactic chemical evolution and structure, gravitational lensing (micro and macro), instrumentation, the interstellar, circumstellar, and intergalactic medium, star formation and feedback, stellar structure, supernovae and time domain astrophysics, and others. Observational facilities include a 1/6 share of the Large Binocular Telescope (LBT), ¼ share of the MDM Observatory, and membership in SDSS, ASAS-SN, DESI, and other projects. Post Doctoral Scholars may be PIs on observing proposals, and there is no limit on the number of proposals. Computational facilities include a departmental cluster and access to the Ohio Supercomputing Center. The department has an active instrumentation lab and strong ties to the Ohio State Physics Department through the Center for Cosmology and AstroParticle Physics (CCAPP). We seek candidates who will contribute to and benefit from the highly interactive environment of Ohio State Astronomy.

We seek a postdoctoral researcher for an exciting project to assess geographic variation in psychological phenomena (e.g., tolerance, support for restoration) relevant to the conservation and restoration of large carnivores in the U.S.  In this position, the postdoctoral researcher will work with a variety of collaborators with expertise in ecology, the social sciences, and resource management.  The researcher will conduct analyses on two large datasets (>3500 cases spanning 30 U.S. states) that quantify a variety of factors relevant to the conservation of wolves and cougars in the U.S. at various spatial scales to help inform reintroduction and recovery efforts.
