A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in Dr. Cristina Palacios’ Lab at Florida International University. The postdoc will participate in a diverse array of research pursuits mainly within the MetA-Bone Trial (http://metabone.fiu.edu), an NIH funded study that seeks to determine the effects of a prebiotic fiber on bone mass in children. These include project related activities, manuscript preparation, data analysis, collaborating on other ongoing projects, and grant writing. The postdoc will be mentored directly by Dr. Palacios and will have the opportunity to collaborate with others within the Dietetics and Nutrition Department and the Stempel College at FIU. Dr. Palacios has over 20 years of experience in designing, implementing and evaluating nutrition clinical trials to test various nutritional interventions in infants, children, and pregnant women. Central to her program of research is the use of technology and nutritional supplements in body composition.

An opportunity is available for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Adel Nefzi at the Florida International University, Port Saint Lucie, Florida. The projects will involve medicinal chemistry, development of structure activity relationships and assessment of activity in a range of assays. Candidates should have a Ph.D. with less than two years of postdoctoral experience, demonstrated experience in synthetic organic/medicinal chemistry with emphasis on peptide chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, and an ability to work independently. Neuroinflammation and Alzheimer’s disease: A postdoctoral position is available for a highly motivated candidates with background in cellular and molecular biology, neuroscience, microglia biology, or Alzheimer’s disease animal models to investigate the role of Translocator Protein 18kDA (TSPO) in the neuroinflammation associated with Alzheimer’s disease. TSPO, previously named peripheral benzodiazepine receptor, is a glial stress response protein that has been validated as a biomarker of neuroinflammation and is widely used in preclinical and clinical studies. Our laboratory has a long history of studying TSPO as a biomarker of neuroinflammation and we have recently discovered that TSPO interacts with NADPH Oxidase-2 in microglia. We are examining the molecular, cellular, and functional aspects of this interaction in Alzheimer’s disease animal models. Postdoctoral Fellowship in Social Epigenomics and Child Psychopathology at Florida International University (Miami, FL) The Child & Family Well-being Lab (CFW) in Florida International University’s Center for Children and Families (CCF) and Department of Psychology is seeking a postdoctoral scholar with excellent writing and analytic skills, interested in gaining leadership experience, and training in epigenetics. Florida International University’s Freshwater Resource Division at the Institute of Environment is seeking to fill one Postdoctoral Associate position in the area of analytical environmental chemistry- mass spectrometry. The primary objective of the Postdoctoral Associate will be to oversee the operations of the analytical facility at the Biscayne Bay Campus, being involved in sample custody, sample collection, sample preparation steps and develop new analytical methods in the area of organic mass spectrometry with specific emphasis on emerging contaminants and non-targeted analysis (NTA), contributing to the training and mentoring  of graduate and undergraduate students in traditional and novel analytical techniques for environmental and biological applications. The Child Anxiety and Phobia Program (CAPP), along with the Neural Dynamics of Control Laboratory (NDCLab), both housed within Florida International University’s Center for Children and Families (CCF) and Department of Psychology are seeking a talented postdoctoral scholar with prior expertise in EEG and an interest in conducting cutting-edge research at the intersection of clinical psychology and developmental neuroscience. The primary focus of this position is to collaborate on an ongoing, multi-site Randomized Controlled Trial assessing attention bias modification training as a treatment for pediatric social anxiety, with a focus on EEG markers of attention and cognitive control as the key targets. The position involves implementing high-density EEG, eye-tracking, managing data collection, analysis, and preparing manuscripts. Opportunities to engage, or train, in time-frequency and/or source localization EEG methods are also readily available as part of this position. The candidate will be mentored in leading independent research projects including grant applications and publishing with a highly productive research team. A postdoctoral position is available to conduct research in the area of quantum materials, in particular of relevance to quantum emitters and nonlinear optical crystals. We are seeking a highly motivated postdoc to work on disease modeling and therapeutics using human induced pluripotent stem cells. A doctoral degree in biochemistry, molecular biology, molecular genetics or other relevant fields is required. Our research focuses on using human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) to model central nervous system (CNS) development and disease. Specifically, by differentiating and genetically manipulating iPSCs with cutting edge genome editing tools such as CRISPR-mediated gene targeting, we are trying to dissect the developmental pathways and the corresponding pathogenesis in the glial lineage. The Infant Development Lab (PI: Lorraine Bahrick; infantlab.fiu.edu) in the Department of Psychology at Florida International University invites applications for a 2-3 year NIH-funded postdoc in infant/child perceptual/cognitive/social development to start as soon as possible or by January 2023. We seek an applicant with strong technical, methodological, and statistical skills with an interest in early development. The post-doc will work with the P.I., Dr. Lorraine Bahrick, and her lab team, to coordinate and participate in 2 NIH-funded research projects. One is a multisite project assessing individual differences in attention and intersensory processing and relations with social and language outcomes. Findings are designed to serve as a basis for identifying typical developmental trajectories with implications for identifying atypical trajectories. The project will result in a large aggregate database generated by and shared across 13 research labs via Databrary. The Community-Based Research Institute (CBRI) at Florida International University has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Postdoctoral Associate to join our growing team. As a Postdoctoral Associate, you will primarily work on a new study funded by the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities (NIHMD) as part of FIU’s Research Center in Minority Institutions (FIU-RCMI). The Postdoctoral Associate will assist with analyzing and interpreting data from the R01-equivalent RCMI study “Addressing community-level influences of HIV and COVID-19 disparities among people with HIV.” The study will assess the contribution of community factors on HIV and COVID-19 disparities among people with HIV in Florida. The study will use HIV and COVID-19 statewide surveillance longitudinal data to model potential increases in disparities over time among minority populations. The position has funding for a minimum of 4 years (2023-2027) with annual renewal contingent upon performance. One active research area in the CCF is ADHD, with 10 faculty actively studying the cause, nature, or treatment.  The postdoctoral appointments will be in the ADHD Research Group within the CCF and will begin in the summer or fall, 2023.  The postdocs will emphasize clinical research training within the context of federally-funded projects investigating effective interventions and accommodations for children and adolescents with ADHD.  Successful applicants will join the team working on a variety of funded projects.

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available to support a three-year effort to advance collaborative research and conservation of transboundary social-ecological freshwater systems in the Western Amazon (Brazil, Peru and Colombia). The Research Associate will work with an interdisciplinary team that includes Drs. Elizabeth Anderson, Simone Athayde, Clinton Jenkins, and Paulo Olivas at Florida International University. They will support efforts on four integrated project themes concerning linked human, freshwater and forest systems in the Western Amazon: (1) habitat change, (2) governance, (3) biocultural mapping, and (4) participatory visioning. The project will use a co-production approach and involve extensive engagement with partner organizations and stakeholders that are based and/or conduct work in the Amazon Basin. Considering the transboundary nature of the project, the candidate must be fluent in Spanish and/or Portuguese to lead/support these activities There will be substantial travel to Brazil, Peru and Colombia, and potentially other parts of South America over the duration of the appointment, and therefore the candidate must have a valid passport and ability to travel. The candidate will support scientific analysis, stakeholder engagement, and management/administration efforts.

The FIU Department of Physics invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position to support our diagnostic efforts in fast ion physics at the Mega Ampere Spherical Tokamak-Upgrade (MAST-U) located at the Culham Center for Fusion energy in the United Kingdom. We are developing a multi-channel charged fusion product diagnostic based on Silicon as well as Diamond surface barrier detectors with good (~ 1ms) time  and energy resolution. The successful candidate is expected to regularly travel to MAST-U and serve as the liaison between FIU and MAST-U to support the installation and commissioning of the new instrument. The post-doctoral associate will be leading the data acquisition effort during MAST-U operation, play a leading role in carrying out our research program together with our local collaborators, supervise FIU students who are visiting MAST-U and have the opportunity to present new results in publications and conferences. The initial appointment will be for one year with an extension to two years, contingent on performance. Longer extensions will be contingent on both performance and the availability of funding.

The STEM Transformation Institute at Florida International University is inviting applications for a research associate or postdoctoral research associate to work with a team of faculty, postdocs, and students contributing to an NSF-funded project titled, CAREER: Talking Science: Early STEM Identity Formation Through Everyday Science Talk. This project examines the structures of family conversations that support STEM identity development across Hispanic/Latine populations and translates this understanding to develop resources for STEM educators in informal settings. The employee will be expected to work full-time (40 hrs/week) for a period of 12 to 18 months and may fulfill their responsibilities as either a completely remote, hybrid, or in-person employee. Work modality can be discussed at the time of interview. This position will contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of virtual workshops for informal learning educators that center on cultivating strategies for Latine family engagement. This will include (1) collecting data to evaluate the effectiveness of the workshops, (2) analyzing evaluation data and synthesizing findings, (3) disseminating workshop evaluation and materials to researcher and practitioner audiences, (4) refining workshop curriculum and materials based on findings from evaluation, and (5) coordinating and implementing future workshops.

The primary responsibility of this position will be conducting biology education research and co-mentoring undergraduates in a bioinformatics-oriented research internship. This position integrates teaching experience with research activities to facilitate implementation of evidence-based practices, thus preparing the candidate for a variety of academic and non-academic careers. The Center for Translational Science at FIU located in Port St. Lucie, Florida is currently recruiting 2 Postdoctoral Associate positions to study neurodegenerative diseases using genetically engineered rats as relevant models for motoneuron disease, frontotemporal dementia, and Parkinsons disease. Research in the laboratory focuses on identifying molecular mechanisms regulating HIV latency in the CNS and lung with a goal of eradicating viral reservoirs in these target organs. Lung research will also emphasize on the effects of HIV infection and cigarette smoke on lung inflammation and airway innate immunity with a goal towards developing therapeutic approaches to rescue these effects. The Neural Dynamics of Control Laboratory (NDCLab), along with the Child Anxiety and Phobia Program (CAPP), both housed within Florida International University’s Center for Children and Families (CCF) and Department of Psychology are seeking a talented postdoctoral scholar with prior expertise in EEG and an interest in conducting cutting-edge research at the intersection of clinical psychology and developmental neuroscience. The Department of Physics at FIU invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position for conducting innovative research at the interface of ultrafast spectroscopy, quantum materials, and quantum information science, under the supervision of Professor Hebin Li. The position will begin in Fall 2023. Important qualifications include a Ph.D. degree in experimental AMO or condensed matter physics.
