The first part of this work-package focuses on numerical modelling, optimization, and experimental research on the thermal performance of the proposed novel heat exchangers. Specifically, the RA will design and lead (i) field surveys along the urban-rural gradient to identify species with desirable traits and other characteristics in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, and its hinterlands; (ii) a study on the relationship between traits, distribution and functions of tree species and (iii) a study that seeks to quantify and compare the ecosystem services of different types of urban vegetation. The RA will contribute to the assessment of ecosystem services of various green-blue urban landscape designs using various modelling approaches. This contribution will support an iterative loop between designers, scientists, engineers and local resource users, civil society actors, and governments. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Evo-devo of butterfly wing patterns and the developmental genetics of odor learning in butterflies
Two postdoctoral positions are available in the lab of Antónia Monteiro (DBS). One to study the evolution and development of butterfly wing patterns, the other to investigate the developmental genetics of odor learning in butterflies. Both projects can involve multiplex in situ spatial transcriptomics and/or single-cell sequencing of wings and brains, and/or methylomics of brain DNA, followed by functional genetic perturbations, to investigate the role of candidate genes and/or cis-regulatory elements in the evolution and development of certain color patterns and/or behaviors in butterflies.
The initial appointment is for two years but the positions can be extended beyond that period and can start immediately. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with experience. Candidates with experience in bioinformatics, single-cell sequencing, developmental biology, molecular biology methods, and confocal microscopy, are especially welcome to apply.
