Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral positions on the origin and fate of dust in the universe
Applications are invited for up to 3 postdoctoral positions in the research project “The Origin and Fate of Dust in the Universe“, which is funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation. The project is a collaboration between astronomers and theoretical chemists at Chalmers University of Technology and Gothenburg University. The succesful applicants will, together with postdocs in theoretical chemistry at Gothenburg University form a collaborative unit to study dust formation, destruction and growth throughout the Universe. The postdocs will also work closely with, and be embedded in, the research groups of Profs. Kirsten Knudsen, Wouter Vlemmings and Susanne Aalto in AoP. More information on specific research topics can be found at the project webpage cosmic-dust.se . In particular, topics of interest include, observations and modeling of dust around evolved stars, novae, and the interstellar medium in the local and high-redshift environment.
Postdoc summary/title: Postdoc position in Pain Rehabilitation
This position includes translational research on the treatment of pain using novel devices, as well as brain imaging studies, data analysis, and machine learning to elucidate the working mechanism of the treatments and the condition itself. You will also conduct studies to further improve and develop devices and treatments, with the ultimate goal of relieving people from their chronic and debilitating pain.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc for electrifying urban mobility
The greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions from the transport sector take up approximately a quarter of global GHG emissions and are still rising. Traffic congestions and safety have been two of main causes for economic losses and causality worldwide. To facilitate the fast transition to emission-free, more efficient and safer transportation systems, the world has witnessed significant advances in emerging transport technologies such as transportation electrification and connected automated vehicles. These emerging technologies are promising panacea to renovate current mobility systems and significantly contribute to transition to more sustainable mobility systems. However, these new techniques bring not only opportunities but also challenges. There are many theoretical, technical and practical issues that need to be addressed to put these new technologies or techniques to good use. To name a few, transportation electrification needs large scale deployment of charging facilities and re-design of some transport systems (e.g., the scheduling of buses); the adoption rate of electric vehicles is not high due to vehicle and infrastructure limitations; the environmental benefits of electric vehicles may not be positive if the electricity is mainly from thermal power in some regions and utilization rate is low; connected automation encounters a set of dilemma in mixed traffic with both human-driven vehicle and automated vehicles.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral researcher positions in Computer Architecture
Prospective candidates will be engaged in research towards the vision of the research group being to consider a new architecture framework that is believed to scale into the future addressing the challenges of end of Moore’s Law and an application landscape being data centric rather than compute centric. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Sustainable hydrometallurgy for metals recovery from the waste
The aim of the project is to develop a sustainable and complete extraction process for metal recovery from secondary sources – spent Li-ion batteries. Process has to be designed and optimized for further industrialization within two years. Co-operation with the industrial partner will be one of the required tasks as well as mobility between pilot plant and demonstration plant. Process will aim for high efficiencies and high purity of the produced precursors.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Integrated millimeter wave communication circuits
We offer a postdoctoral position where your research will contribute to the needs in future wireless communication and sensing systems. You will have the opportunity to contribute to large international projects, as well as projects with international industry. In this post-doctoral position, your major responsibility will be to investigate high-performance integrated silicon-based transmitter circuit designs for future wireless communication applications. Your main research focus will be on the design and characterization of highly efficient and linearized millimetre-wave transmitters in state-of-the-art RF CMOS technologies. You will work in a team of PhD students and senior researchers working both with digital- and analog circuit building blocks. Most of your time will be available for your own research but will also involve the supervision of PhD and MSc thesis students within the research team.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Localization and Sensing for Beyond 5G
In this project, you will perform cutting-edge research on localization and sensing using Beyond 5G signals and technologies, including terahertz waveforms, intelligent surfaces, and artificial intelligence. You are expected to publish high-quality high-impact papers, work with PhD students, and be involved in project management, deliverable writing, and leading industry-academia joint meetings. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in mathematics
The postdoctoral project is “Quantitative Distributional Asymptotics in Metric Diophantine Approximation” and is funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation. The aim of the project is to apply techniques from geometry of numbers, dynamical systems and representation theory to establish quantitative improvements of certain (almost sure and distributional) limit theorems which involve counting objects with Diophantine constraints. Examples of such limit theorems include, but are not limited to, the central limit theorems for Diophantine approximants by Björklund and Gorodnik and the small scale distributions of diffraction measures associated with random quasicrystals.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Chemical Bonding Analysis on Quantum Computers
Do you have a passion for exploring new ways of analyzing electronic structure? In this project you will have the opportunity to develop state-of-the-art chemical bonding analyses (broadly defined) and adapt them for use on current and future quantum computers. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Probing solid/liquid interfaces with cryomicroscopy
Solid/liquid interfaces enable the functionalities of many modern material systems. Deep insights into these interfaces will facilitate design of novel materials for, e.g. batteries, implants, controlled drug release, cellulose based materials and more. Their properties are determined by mechanisms that operate at different length scales. Today, the probing and imaging of the solid/liquid interfaces on nano and atomic scale remains as a great challenge. In this project, we aim to develop methods using advanced microscopes to enable the probing of solid/liquid interfaces with down to atomic spatial resolution using cryo-microscopy.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: PostDoc in ML for hydropower hydraulic-mechanical-electrical mechanisms
In this project, we will exploit various machine learning methods aiming to construct models to describe both the quasi-static and dynamic hydraulic-mechanical-electrical coupling mechanisms of hydropower plants (HPP), with the intention to have a more rational maintenance prediction and optimized HPP operation. This project will first investigate various machine learning methods to establish data-driven models to describe a hydropower plant’s hydraulic-mechanical-electrical coupling mechanisms, in terms of the guide vane angle, runner blade angle, runner rotational speed, flow rate, water head, pump operations, etc. The data-driven models will be compared and combined with HPP physical model to describe both the hydro turbine performance and corresponding HPP operation efficiency. We look for p to three postdocs to join the research project “The Origin and Fate of Dust in the Universe”, which is funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation. The postdocs will, together with postdocs in theoretical chemistry at Gothenburg University, form a collaborative unit to study dust formation, destruction, and growth throughout the Universe.
2. AoP Fellow (astronomy or plasma physics), ref 20220509, deadline 2nd December, 2022. We look for an independent postdoc fellow to lead a research program that has a wide synergy with the research topics pursued at AoP.
3. Postdoctoral position in the field of exoplanets, ref 20220508, deadline 2nd December, 2022. We look for a postdoc to lead an ambitious, independent research program expected to align with the wide range of research within the Exoplanet group at Chalmers, and its collaborators. The research topics that are of particular relevance are exoplanet characterization, host star characterization, how to understand planets through their host stars, the radius valley of small planets, planet occurrence rates, and the influence of birth environment on the formation and evolution of planetary systems.
4. Chalmers Cosmic Origins Postdoctoral Fellowships (several positions), ref 20220500, deadline 15th December, 2022. We look for postdocs to lead an ambitious, independent research program related to Cosmic Origins science, expected to align with the wide range of astrophysics research within Chalmers Initiative on Cosmic Origins (CICO) and its partner institutes.

The Ariel Postdoctoral Fellowship Program seeks outstanding early-career scientists to carry out research programs that will support the Ariel mission. The Astronomy and Plasma Physics (AoP) division is the centre for Astrophysics research at Chalmers University and is the primary host of the Chalmers Initiative on Cosmic Origins (CICO). AoP personnel are situated at the main Johanneberg Campus and at Onsala Space Observatory (OSO), which is the Swedish national facility for Radio Astronomy. The observatory operates telescopes in Sweden, shares in the APEX telescope in Chile, hosts the Nordic ALMA Regional Center (ARC), and is the SKA center for Sweden. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Chalmers Astronomy and Plasma Physics Fellow
Astronomy and plasma physics (AoP) division at the Space, Earth and Environment (SEE) department at Chalmers hosts about 45 staff members involved in research activities such as active galactic nucleii, evolved stars, exoplanets, galaxy evolution, interstellar medium, star formation, as well as turbulence and transport in tokamaks and general fusion plasma physics. The division also collaborates with the Onsala Space Observatory that hosts, e.g., the Nordic ALMA Regional Center node, and is the SKA center for Sweden. The fusion research activities are aligned with the integrated European fusion research programme implemented by the EUROfusion consortium, which for example conducts experiments on several European fusion devices, such as JET. There are also close links to the ITER project.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral researcher in computer architecture
The researcher selected for this position will work closely with other researchers in the European Processor Initiative (EPI) in the research and development of advanced and efficient domain-specific accelerators (e.g. for Machine Learning) and their memory subsystems. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in nanoelectronics processing and integration
In the Electronics Materials and Systems Laboratory we conduct research based on micro- and nanostructured materials and advanced semiconductor processes in order to realize various applications. We pursue biology-relevant physics-theory modelling and fundamental and applied materials physics. The materials research includes developing a parameter-free and computationally efficient theoretical characterization of sparse-matter challenges like, e.g., the carbon-based systems, and experiment-theory collaborations to study functional organics. The Labratory has about 14 staff members (faculty, permanent research staff, postdoctoral researchers and PhD students).

An optical frequency comb is a laser source whose spectrum is made of evenly spaced and narrow frequency lines that maintain broadband phase coherence across the bandwidth. Microresonator frequency combs (microcombs) constitute an alternative platform to femtosecond mode-locked lasers for realizing frequency combs on a chip scale . Their compactness, compatibility with standard semiconductor fabrication techniques and large (> 10 GHz) line spacing enable new opportunities in frequency synthesis and metrology: from advanced communications to radio-frequency photonics.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in Low-latency secure and private federated learning
Next-generation autonomous networks will be characterized by a massive number of Internet-of-Things devices (autonomous vehicles, wearables, drones, sensors) that produce and process data simultaneously. In such networks, data is inherently distributed and can be sensitive. Centralized over-the-cloud learning is not well adapted for this setting: uploading vast amounts of data to the cloud puts enormous pressure on existing communication networks, entails unacceptable long propagation delays, and poses privacy concerns. Federated learning has emerged as the most promising alternative approach to address these problems. The key principle is to enable IoT devices and a central server (located at the cloud or the network edge) to collaboratively learn a shared global prediction model without sharing their local training data with the central server. This project aims to develop theory on and design novel secure and private federated learning schemes.

The project encompasses applied and fundamental aspects of research, and the findings are expected to be utilized for the realization of novel structural batteries within a few years only. The purpose of this research project is to develop novel structural electrolytes for structural batteries. The structural battery is a modern battery concept that integrates mechanical strength and conductive properties of carbon fibres, which hence constitute an intimate part of anode and cathode electrodes. Differently from conventional batteries, the structural battery is a fibre reinforced polymer composite, developed to provide multiple functions desirably with an orientational dependence. In particular, the structural electrolyte needs to both transfer load and transport ions. However, this requires composite materials able to provide both high ionic conductivities and good mechanical properties. Unfortunately, such materials do not exist yet and it is the aim of this project to fill this gap. The project should lead to a deeper understanding of the operational mechanisms of the structural electrolytes, so their properties can be optimized for structural batteries.
