Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:

Postdoctoral research position available immediately at Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey, Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences, on trace metal dynamics in the Amundsen Sea, in the research group of Dr. Robert Sherrell. The ARTEMISproject, associated with the larger ITGC collaboration (thwaitesglacier.org), aims to understand the effect of increased glacial melting on metal biogeochemistry and phytoplankton productivity on this crucial region of the Antarctic shelf, where meltwater input is sufficient to account for 10% of global sea level rise. Analysis of a suite of elements in a large number of dissolved, colloidal and particulate water column samples is planned for 2022 and 2023. Samples may be available for analysis of other variables of interest to important problems of polar biogeochemistry in a changing world. Available laboratory facilities include 5 ICP-MS instruments and all supporting infrastructure for high-quality measurements of low-level trace metals and isotopes in marine samples. The project is highly interdisciplinary, and involves collaboration with UK and Swedish scientists.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Associate III for the Department of Microbiology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Genetics within the New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Postdoctoral Fellow will investigate the cell biology underlying interactions between macrophages and Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The major focus will be understanding how post-translational modifications of host proteins impact the initiation, progression, and resolution of key innate immune pathways like cytosolic DNA sensing and selective autophagy. In addition, proteomics approaches and genetic screens will be employed to identify novel players in these pathways, including host proteins and bacterial factors. Validation of both previously identified and newly discovered factors will be performed using a combination of M. tuberculosis genetics (knockout and complemented strains, transposon screens, etc.), macrophage genetics (CRISPR knockout macrophages, epitope-tagged expression lines, mammalian CRISPR screens, etc.), biochemistry (immunoprecipitations, mass spectrometry, ubiquitination/phosphorylation assays, etc.), molecular biology (RT-qPCR, RNA-seq, etc.), cell biology (immunofluorescence, protein studies/western blots, etc.), and mouse infection models. The work from these studies will deepen our understanding of the molecular interface between the host macrophage and intracellular M. tuberculosis, promoting the development of more effective therapies to treat TB.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:

The primary investigator is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to support the recently obtained R01 grant, “Developing bone morphogenetic receptor inhibitors for the treatment of cancer.” Published data shows that the BMP signaling cascade promotes survival of cancer cells and targeting BMP receptors with small molecules will lead to cell death of cancer cells. The research team consists of a computational biologist, medicinal chemist, and crystolographers that will be developing BMP inhibitors using a novel core. The postdoctoral appointee will be characterizing the novel BMP inhibitors developed in this proposal. The mechanisms by which BMP inhibitors induce cell death of lung cancer cells both in vitro and in a humanized mouse model will be elucidated. The mechanisms BMP inhibitors induce cell death by increasing mitochondria and lysosome permeability will be studied.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join the Max Tischfield lab. Our research revolves around two key areas: (1) understanding circuit mechanisms and the neuropathogenesis of Tourette syndrome and related conditions (OCD, ADHD, ASD) using genetic mouse models; (2) the development and functions of brain waste clearance systems, specifically understanding the development, integration, and maintenance of meningeal lymphatic vessels with the glymphatic system. Applicants have the opportunity to work in EITHER focus area, but we are especially interested in candidates who wish to work in the field of Tourette’s and related neurodevelopmental/neuropsychiatric conditions. We have engineered seven novel mouse models expressing human mutations in high confidence Tourette genes. Current projects involve studying the effects on cortico-striatal signaling, dopamine dysregulation, and how cholinergic interneurons affect these processes. Our lab combines multiple approaches including human/mouse genetics, mouse behavior and operant conditioning, slice patch clamp electrophysiology, in vivo imaging, and computer vision as part of a collaborative, multi-PI team setting.

About Rutgers University, New Jersey, United States – Official Website

Rutgers University formally known as Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is a public land-grant research university based in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Chartered in 1766, Rutgers was originally called Queen’s College. It is the eighth-oldest college in the United States, the second-oldest in New Jersey (after Princeton University), and one of the nine U.S. colonial colleges that were chartered before the American War of Independence. In 1825, Queen’s College was renamed Rutgers College in honor of Colonel Henry Rutgers, whose substantial gift to the school had stabilized its finances during a period of uncertainty. For most of its existence, Rutgers was a private liberal arts college but it has evolved into a coeducational public research university after being designated The State University of New Jersey by the New Jersey Legislature via laws enacted in 1945 and 1956.

Rutgers today has three distinct campuses, located in New Brunswick (including grounds in adjacent Piscataway), Newark, and Camden. The university has additional facilities elsewhere in the state, including oceanographic research facilities at the New Jersey shore. Rutgers is also a land-grant university, a sea-grant university, and the largest university in the state. Instruction is offered by 9,000 faculty members in 175 academic departments to over 45,000 undergraduate students and more than 20,000 graduate and professional students. The university is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the Big Ten Academic Alliance, the Association of American Universities and the Universities Research Association. Over the years, Rutgers has been considered a Public Ivy.
