Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in Computational Catalysis
Hydrogen is expected to be an important energy carrier in future sustainable energy systems that does not rely on fossil energy sources. One issue using hydrogen is, however, transportation and storage. The present technologies for storage and transportation are mainly based on liquid compressed hydrogen, which require very high pressures or very low temperatures. Technologies with Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHC) offer an alternative to compressed hydrogen by storing hydrogen in organic molecules. Hydrogen is in the LOHC technology stored in chemical bonds in a liquid carrier, which allow the usage of already existing infrastructure for conventional liquid fuels. The LOHC technology is based on catalytic hydrogenation and dehydrogenation steps using suitable storage molecules. The present project will explore potential catalysts for the hydrogenation and dehydrogenation steps and develop first-principles kinetic models for the reactions. The work will be performed at the division of Chemical Physics and the Competence Centre for Catalysis.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc for micromobility fleet management
The focus of the project is to develop efficient and sustainable fleet management strategies for shared electric micromobility systems (EmmS). The goal is to jointly optimize the energy consumption and the level of service of EmmS fleets, by taking into account dynamic energy grid loads, stochastic travel demands, battery energy waste in idle status, and coordination with other transportation modes. The approach is to use advanced machine learning models and state-of-the-art routing algorithms to empower the decision-making of where, when, and how to charge batteries, relocate vehicles, and swap batteries. The results are of great potential to resolve the current chaos in cities that are inundated by e-bikes/e-scooters, and realize a highly accessible, energy-efficient, and complementary operation of EmmS. The project is funded by the Swedish Energy Agency
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in optimization techniques for vehicle aerodynamic applications
The field of research is in optimization (gradient-based, surrogate models, etc.) and AI techniques with the purpose of improving the underbody of a vehicle and identifying local zones where shape deformation will result on drag and lift minimization. With electrification, new design opportunities can be explored with less limitations compared to traditional ICE vehicles. As the design space is large, smart algorithms need to be used, particularly since high-resolution CFD computations are expensive to run. To start, a reduced scale model will be considered as the development of the optimization procedure can be accelerated this way. The resulting methodology will also be tested for the control of the flow with the use of adaptive aerodynamic devices. Such devices can make a positive contribution to increase the energy efficiency and the driving range of future vehicles.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in developing deep learning for satellite images
About 900 million people—one-third in Africa—live in extreme poverty. Operating on the assumption that life in impoverished communities is fundamentally so different that it can trap people in cycles of deprivation (‘poverty traps’), major development agencies have deployed a stream of development projects to break these cycles (‘poverty targeting’). However, scholars are currently unable to answer questions such as in what capacity do poverty traps exist; to what extent do these interventions release communities from such traps—as they are held back by a data challenges. This challenge is that there is a lack of geo-temporal poverty data, and thus, one of the goals of the Observatory of Poverty project is to develop new methods to produce such data. Thus, this is the main challenge that the postdoc is expected to contribute to.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in automated and electric mobility
The greenhouse gases (GHG) emissions from the transport sector take up approximately a quarter of global GHG emissions and are still rising. Traffic congestions and safety have been two of main causes for economic losses and causality worldwide. To facilitate the fast transition to emission-free, more efficient and safer transportation systems, the world has witnessed significant advances in emerging transport technologies such as transportation electrification and connected automated vehicles. These emerging technologies are promising panacea to renovate current mobility systems and significantly contribute to transition to more sustainable mobility systems. However, these new techniques bring not only opportunities but also challenges. There are many theoretical, technical and practical issues that need to be addressed to put these new technologies or techniques to good use.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in optimal control for quantum gate error reduction – a collaboration between Chalmers University and Aalto University.
The reduction of quantum gate errors represents the most important problem in the development of quantum computers in any technological platform. By this metric, superconducting qubits constitute a leading platform, with the best demonstrated two-qubit gate errors currently at the 0.1-0.2% level. Meaningful quantum computing requires that these errors be reduced to 0.01% in a scalable and reliable way across the multi-qubit chip. To achieve this, we will deploy advanced theoretical methods and we will implement the protocols experimentally. Progress in this direction will constitute a major breakthrough in quantum computing, as it will open the way to realistic implementations of error correction.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in mathematics
The postdoctoral project is “Quantitative Distributional Asymptotics in Metric Diophantine Approximation” and is funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation. The aim of the project is to apply techniques from geometry of numbers, dynamical systems and representation theory to establish quantitative improvements of certain (almost sure and distributional) limit theorems which involve counting objects with Diophantine constraints. Examples of such limit theorems include, but are not limited to, the central limit theorems for Diophantine approximants by Björklund and Gorodnik and the small scale distributions of diffraction measures associated with random quasicrystals.
