16 Postdoctoral Fellowship at University of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England

This new and exciting position is funded by the British Heart Foundation and will enable us to extend our studies on the functions and regulations of Piezo1 mechanosensitive channel. Piezo1 channel is a critical mechanical sensor in endothelial cells, red blood cells and other cell types such as cardiac fibroblasts. Mutations on Piezo1 have been shown to result in a number of cardiovascular diseases. Building a detailed molecular and dynamic understanding of Piezo1, which will complement the available functional and regulatory data, will fill an important gap in our understanding of the functions and regulations of this biologically important channel.

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher with experience in evaluating policy and practical practices of arts and crafts entrepreneurship in Jordan. The candidate will work closely with the Department of Antiquities team and interview key actors and other participants from the different SMEs and youth-led practices, engaged in the heritage arts and crafts industry. The post holder will evaluate the different processes employed and produce a report with case studies and recommendations, including what these approaches might mean for policy and practice in Jordan. In addition, the candidate will advise and guide the project lead on sufficient approaches in collaboration with local partners to help shape future public engagement programmes.

This post-doctoral position will undertake focused analysis of data collected in a 5-wave panel survey of travel behaviour during and since the Covid pandemic. The Transport and Travel Adaptation Study (TRANSAS) is the only longitudinal panel study of its kind in the UK and the role will take on responsibility for statistical analysis of the data and writing up of the results. The analysis will involve statistical techniques such as regression and structural equation modelling to capture dynamic changes in behaviours such as car use, public transport use, car ownership and working from home, and the factors underlying these changes. The candidate will have proved quantitative data analysis skills and be able to use different weighting.

We are looking for an outstanding postdoctoral research fellow to join the Fontana and Calabrese labs at the University of Leeds. The fellow will be part of a large team (£5.7M, funded by a BBSRC Strategic Longer and Larger grant). The team aims to unravel the ‘ribosome code’, rules that explain how compositionally dissecting ribosomes enable translation of specific sets of mRNA. Specifically, the Research Fellow in Structural Biology will focus on the structural characterisation of the different ribosomes that we will purify during the project. This will include isolating specialised ribosomes from a variety of organisms, and structurally characterising these ribosomes by cryo-electron microscopy and structural mass spectrometry. This will be possible by taking advantage of the state-of-the-art equipment available at the Astbury Biostructure Laboratory (ABSL), which includes: two Titan Krios microscopes, equipped with Falcon 4 and Selectris Falcon 4 direct electron detectors; an Orbitrap Ultra-High Mass Range mass spectrometer (for native mass spectrometry of intact ribosomes); and a Orbitrap Eclipse mass spectrometer (for cross-linking mass spectrometry). We anticipate that by understanding the structure of different specialised ribosomes, by exploiting our combined cryo-EM and mass spectrometry toolkit, we will be able to dissect conserved mechanisms of ribosome specialisation across eukaryotes, allowing us to unravel the ‘ribosome code’.

We are looking to appoint two researchers at Grade 6 (Research Assistant) or Grade 7 (Research Fellow) in Health Economics and Health Data Science to contribute to recently funded research projects in the Academic Unit of Health Economics (AUHE), Leeds Institute of Health Sciences. This fellowship will be primarily associated to a research project entitled Generation Integrated Energy Storage (GIES) – A Paradigm Shift, is a new EPSRC- funded project which will assess a class of systems that blends electricity generation and storage, to understand the role that they could play in future energy systems. Theirability to deliver low-carbon energy on demand, at low system cost, will be investigated from technical, economic, and policy standpoints. You will investigate the financing and contractual mechanism of GIES systems, which store energy in a convenient form before converting it to electricity on demand. The project is in collaboration with the Universities of Nottingham, Cambridge, and Birmingham.

We seek a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to join a large three-year, collaborative, Industry-funded project. This exciting three-year position will give you the opportunity to work at the forefront of our rapidly growing field. You will focus on the development, characterisation and optimisation of new broadband amplifiers using harmonic termination techniques. You will also develop and investigate methods of achieving very broadband linearisation techniques. The applications for this work include fixed and mobile wireless communications.

The Leeds Institute of Clinical Trials Research (LICTR) is looking to appoint a highly motivated Research Fellow to work either full or part time (0.6FTE). The successful applicant will work primarily on a National Institute for Health Research (Programme Grants for Applied Research) funded study: “EVolution of a patiEnt-REported symptom-based risk stratification sySTem to redesign the suspected Head and Neck cancer referral pathway (EVEREST-HN). Applicants wishing to work full time will also work on other NIHR-funded qualitative research within the Surgical Interventions Diagnostics and Devices Portfolio at LICTR. This is an ongoing appointment and applicants will be encouraged to contribute to the development of further research within LICTR and LUCID.

We seek a post-doctoral research fellow to join a large five-year, collaborative, EPSRC-funded project. This exciting three-year position will give you the opportunity to work at the forefront of our rapidly growing field. You will focus on the development, characterisation and optimisation of new THz-frequency heterodyne receivers based on quantum heterostructures. This will be achieved by investigating the use of THz-frequency quantum cascade laser (QCL) structures as integrated receivers incorporating a THz local oscillator and mixer. You will also develop and investigate monolithically-integrated heterodyne receivers based on a QCL local oscillator and quantum detector. The applications for this work include high precision spectroscopy and high-speed wireless communications.

You will provide flexible research assistance to Dr Joanna Leidenhag (Lecturer in Theology and Liberal Arts). Dr Leidenhag has received a planning grant from the John Templeton Foundation to prepare a multi-site funding application exploring how differences in language use (e.g., as seen in autism, aphasia, dyslexia, minority languages, multilingualism, etc.) impact how people communicate with God in Judaism, Islam, and Christianity.
