The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions.  The Department of Computer Science has a vacancy for a postdoctoral fellow in the Data and Artificial Intelligence Group, the use of AI in the recruitment process, with a special focus on fairness in decision making. The position is funded by NTNU and will partly be connected to a project focusing on bias, discrimination and unfairness problems related to the use of AI in the employee recruitment process. The project (with short title “BIAS”) is funded by the European Union (EU)  and is of highly multidisciplinary nature where the task of our department focuses on design and implementation of an AI-based decision support system that enables detection of possible unfair decisions, and development of methods to mitigate or avoid unfair decision.

The postdoctoral fellowship position is a temporary position where the main goal is to qualify for work in senior academic positions. Carbon-free fuels, such as hydrogen, will play a key role in our future energy system. They serve as energy storage medium and can be produced from excess renewable energy or via carbon capture from natural gas. Large-scale power production from carbon-free fuels is, therefore, desirable, and gas turbines are a promising technology for this task. There are many challenges associated with the combustion of carbon-free fuels; in particular, the occurrence of undesirable dynamic phenomena must be prevented. The successful candidate will develop novel predictive modeling tools for this purpose in close collaboration with experimental and numerical project partners.

We have a vacancy for a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Industrial Ecology Programme (IndEcol). The position is between 2 and 4 years duration. IndEcol is a well-known research group with an international leading role in the field of environmental sustainability analysis and climate change mitigation strategies. IndEcol currently consists of 70+ employees in scientific positions and features publications of scientific articles in high-ranked journals, direct contributions to assessment reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), and leading roles in several projects at national and European levels.

The two positions are part of the European Horizon-Infra-2022-Tech-01 program under the project entitled  “SUBMERSE” (SUBMarine cablEs for ReSearch and Exploration). NTNU is one of 24 partners in the project that lasts for 3 years. The overall objective of the project is to develop a new world-class research instrument integrating already existing infrastructures from there European nations as well as Pan-European and Pan-American institutions, to disseminate SOP and DAS data. Both Post Doc positions will be integrated in the Centre for Geophysical Forecasting (CGF), which is one of the Norwegian centres for research-driven innovation, funded by the Research Council of Norway and research and industry partners.

The Process and Power Program, Department of Energy and Process Engineering (EPT) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is seeking a Post-Doctoral Scholar to research liquid hydrogen technologies as a part of the HYDROGENi Initiative. One of the key goals is to identify the most promising technologies for commercialization and integration into a Norwegian, European, or global hydrogen economy, and subsequently make recommendations to governments for development based on critical analysis and data. The research will require the use of eco-technoeconomic analysis (eTEA) methodologies to evaluate candidate liquid hydrogen production and/or storage processes and systems in order to quantify their potential economic, environmental, or sociopolitical value of various technologies in comparison to alternative solutions. Key research elements will include the conceptual design, synthesis, and simulation of candidate commercial scale liquid hydrogen production and/or storage processes currently at technology readiness level 6 or lower; bottom-up economic analyses to estimate costs as a function of geography and markets; dynamic life cycle assessment (LCA) of commercial supply chain implementation; and big-picture assessments made within the context of the triple bottom line of sustainability.

Applicants are invited for a two-year Postdoc position at the Department of Electric Power Engineering, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Trondheim, Norway. The candidate will be a part of the Power System Operation and Analysis (PSOA) research group.  The Ocean Grid project, which is a part of the Norwegian Government’s Green Platform Initiative, aims to develop cost-competitive energy technologies for the international market through research-based innovation. The prominent driver for this research is the ambition to re-align the Norwegian offshore industry from Oil & Gas-based activities towards offshore wind energy and hydrogen. The candidate will work in a joint research project with leading energy companies and developers, suppliers and manufacturers, and research and innovation organisations.

The Industrial Ecology Program (IndEcol), Department of Energy and Process Engineering (EPT) at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) is seeking a Post-Doctoral Scholar for the continued development, updating and scientific application of the environmentally extended multiregional input-output model EXIOBASE and the global life cycle impact assessment methodology LC-IMPACT. EXIOBASE and LC-IMPACT  are two major pillars of the digital research infrastructure of the Industrial Ecology Programme as well as of the Industrial Ecology community (together over 80,000 downloads in the last years). The successful applicant will take responsibility for maintaining and extending this infrastructure, with a focus on Open Science/FAIR data and code management. The outcome of this process will be a fully automated, parallelized data pipeline integrated into the NTNU digital infrastructure (OpenStack and HPC cluster). Another major part of the work will be the further increase of the uptake of these databases through web-presence development, development and end-user focused software and workshops/presentations of these at relevant conferences.

We have a vacancy for a postdoctoral fellowship position at the Department of Education and Lifelong Learning, at the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences. The position is fully dedicated to research over a two-year period starting first half of 2023 and ending in 2025. The position is linked to the DROPOUT project, which has a grant from the Research Council of Norway in the period 2021-2026. The overall goal of the DROPOUT project is to uncover actual causes of dropout in upper secondary school through the use of large, prospective studies, with data from parents, teachers, and children themselves from kindergarten age to adulthood (The Early Secure in Trondheim Study; https://www.ntnu.edu/tess). We also investigate factors from generations back in time through the use of HUNT data (the Health Survey in Trøndelag; https://www.ntnu.edu/hunt).

The position is connected to the project “RICO – Robust Intelligent Control”, funded by the Norwegian Research Council and in collaboration between NTNU, SINTEF, TrønderEnergi A/S, SolutionSeeker A/S and Ohmia Charging. The ambition of RICO is to develop new methods for improved robustness of intelligent control systems and predictive models. The successful candidate will be working with particular emphasis on robustness in predictive systems. There is a gap between the research on very advanced methods tested in a controllable and predictable environment and the industrial setting where the environment is neither completely known nor controllable and where information can be scarce, uncertain and of low quality.  This gap can be closed by developing novel methods for robust intelligent control and forecasting to be tested in both controlled environments and in industrial systems, and this is exactly the aim of RICO. RICO will consider a variety of use-cases, and the work developed by the postdoctoral fellow candidate will be tested within these areas:
