The Post-doctoral fellow will be employed within the research group of Dr. Åsa Johansson (https://www.igp.uu.se/research/genomics-neurobiology/asa-johansson/). The specific post-doc project will focus on the effect of obesity and exogenous hormones on cardiometabolic diseases and cancer, primarily stroke and female-specific cancers. The primary task is to analyze data from the national Swedish registers, with exposures from the prescribed drug register and medical birth register, and disease outcomes from the cancer register, the patient register, the cause of death register, as well as the quality registers. The duties include planning and conducting data analysis, compiling results, and writing and presenting scientific works. Some teaching and supervision can be included in the duties.

The MOFs will be interfaced on gas diffusion electrodes, which will then be integrated into different electrolyzer designs. This project includes design and preparation of new low band-gap quantum dots based on environmentally friendly materials for conversion of heat radiation to electricity.  Thermophotovoltaic heat engines will then be prepared based on the new quantum dots. The research project also includes use of advanced spectroscopy and other methods in order to characterize the quantum dots and to understand and control the conversion process from absorbing heat radiation, separation of charges and conduction of these charges to the contacts in the thermophotovoltaic heat engine.  

In this project, methods for automated analysis of CT and whole-body MRI data from two large scale cohorts, UK biobank and Scapis, will be applied and further developed. The analyses will focus on finding relations between the imaging data and non-imaging data relevant for development of cardiovascular disease. The project will build on methods previously developed and applied in the research group -Imiomics, deep learning, and so-called cohort salience mapping.

The interdisciplinary research of the Natural Resources and Sustainable Development Programme within the department focuses on the different dimensions of sustainable development. At Campus Gotland, the Natural Resources and Sustainable Development program’s (NRHU) research focuses on, among other things, recreational fisheries, nature-based tourism, forests and society, ecosystem services and coastal zone management. NRHU is responsible for courses in the bachelor program in Environmental Science and the master program in Sustainable Destination Development at Campus Gotland. The division is located at Campus Gotland, an international campus in the middle of world heritage town Visby. It is possible for this position to be placed at NRHU campus Uppsala pending negotiations with the successful applicant.

The rapid advances in computation technologies and increase in data bring new possibilities for embedding intelligence in cyber-physical systems and allowing them to safely interact with dynamic environments. Intelligent cyber-physical systems are achieved by the seamless integration of hardware, software, communication technologies, systems and control engineering, and machine learning. They have enabling applications in areas such as robotics and autonomous vehicles, industrial processes, or energy systems and other critical infrastructures. 

Rapid antibiotic susceptibility tests (rASTs) are highly desired in modern clinical practice for quick selection of right antibiotics to treat infectious diseases at the early but critical stage. However, currently available testing methods normally require growth of bacteria into colonies, which usually take more than two days to accomplish a task. They are, therefore, not satisfactory for practical needs that require fast answers. Moreover, these methods are not applicable for slow-growing bacteria, or samples containing sub-populations of slow- or non-growing bacteria which can resume growth after the antibiotic attack. To understand if and how the sub-population of slow-/non-growing bacteria causes failure in infection treatments, rASTs at the single cell level is required. To address these challenges, our project aims at developing a novel Silicon (Si) chip based all-electrical testing platform to achieve rAST at single cell level. The success of this project will potentially provide a low-cost and rapid ASTs platform for effective infection treatments. It could also help to accelerate the development of new antibiotic drugs in the pharmaceutical industry.

The project aims at developing and study electronic thermal sensors for the application in electronic skin. The envisioned sensors emulate the thermal receptors in the skin for the sense of “warm” and “cold”. The research includes material selection, and device design for an efficient thermal to electrical conversion and neuromorphic signalling. The research will be performed in a multidisciplinary environment therein scientists of complementary backgrounds collaborate.

The selected candidate will conduct research in the field of neuro-oncology. An important part of the work will be to establish new patient-derived cell cultures (2D, 3D, organotypic slice cultures) and perform analyses on these (part of an EU-financed project in collaboration with national and international biotech companies) to identify new candidate drugs. The other part of the work will be to conduct basic research to understand the biology behind the therapy evasive nature of glioblastoma cells and use that knowledge to develop new therapies.

The successful candidate will join the Secure Learning and Control Laboratory, a growing interdisciplinary research group doing basic and applied research at the intersection of cybersecurity, control theory, and machine learning. Our vision is to develop methodologies for designing intelligent autonomous decision-making systems that are secure and resilient against malicious adversaries and natural failures.The postdoctoral researcher will intensify our work (on both method development and applications) in secure control systems and may, if the candidate wishes, be paired with real-world applications in e.g. water networks or smart grids. The position might also include teaching in related subjects (max 20%).

The project will involve establishment of pharmacokinetic (PK) and pharmacodynamic (PD) relationships based on preclinical (in vitro, in vivo) and clinical data for new and available antibiotics. The developed pharmacometric models will aim to bridge (translate) exposure-response relationships from preclinical experiments to humans in order to optimize clinical dosing. We expect that the project will lead to new advances in predictive and quantitative methods for characterizing pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics in the field.

The work of the post-doc will focus on challenges faced by municipalities when incorporating SAWs into planning and decision making. The work will include two main tasks: 1) Policy analysis of barriers and opportunities for multifunctional, catchment-scale landscape planning and implementation of SAWs. This will encompass a desk study and content analysis of policy documents, as well as interviews and a workshop with relevant stakeholders. 2) Analysis of the recreational and social ecosystem services offered by SAWs, based on a survey distributed to different stakeholders and general public, and using photos or illustrations of SAWs to reveal their attractiveness to respondents. In addition, the post-doc will also collaborate with researchers in the project with regard to other tasks, for example on citizen science and awareness raising. In addition to research, the researcher may be expected to supervise master thesis projects within the PUDDLE JUMP and conduct some administration related tasks.

The Vickovic Lab is focused on developing novel “digital pathology” tools to track disease progression with the aim of identifying translatable drug and therapeutic targets in human tissue cohorts. The team leverages technologies including spatial transcriptomics, single-cell sequencing, and machine learning. A particular area of disease focus for the lab is developing tools for spatial genomics that will enable perturbing highly complex interactions in the human gut-to-brain axis.

The main duties involved in this position is to conduct research. The candidate will perform research to develop and study copper and tin catalysts for electrocatalytic CO2 reduction. The candidate will collaborate with several groups within Uppsala University.

The project will be performed with Westinghouse Electric Sweden AB as project lead. The company is part of the Westinghouse Electric Company, a global-leading supplier of safe and innovative nuclear technology. Westinghouse is present in 21 countries and has about 19,000 employees who work with everything in nuclear power; from research and development, new build, fuel production, service and maintenance to decommissioning when the reactors have reached their end of life. About 50 percent of all reactors in the world are based on Westinghouse technology.

The postdoctoral position will intensify our work on developing and analyzing methods in machine learning and their application within medicine. We will continue our work on extracting knowledge from large-scale ECG data sets, and we will utilize large databases with electronic health records and patient-reported data and three-dimensional symptom drawings. The aim is to be able to investigate the use of these models for decision support and the position can also include work on decision algorithms. Technical keywords for the position include: probabilistic models, decision making algorithms, deep learning, Bayesian inference and precision medicine. The position might also include teaching.

The main duty involved in a postdoctoral position is to conduct research. This research project aims to investigate the proton reactivity at the “outer surface” and “inner surface” of layered transition metal oxides in contact with water and aqueous electrolytes. Our approach applies finite-field density functional theory (DFT)-based molecular dynamics (MD) and atomistic machine learning (ML), as recently developed and applied in the TeC group at Uppsala (https://tec-group.github.io). This computational study will be complemented by experimental works through collaboration with Augustyn’s group at North Carolina State University.
