Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Researcher in processing of lignocellulose materials – KTH and Chalmers
The tasks are mainly the processing of a number of selected wood-based highly viscous materials. The focus is thermoplasticity and how the term should be used for highly viscous materials, a work that is intended to lead to a standardized method for determining thermoplasticity of materials intended for lowflow processing methods. This position is part of a two-year project where the first year is the employment at KTH Stockholm and the second year at Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in computational plasma physics
The Plasma Theory group within the Division conducts research on acceleration and radiation generation in magnetic fusion, laser-produced and astrophysical plasmas. We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the Extreme Plasma Flares project, a collaboration between the Swedish Institute of Space Science (IRF), Uppsala and Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm. Plasma flares – explosive releases of magnetic energy – play a central role in such diverse phenomena as solar flares, aurora and fusion plasmas. One of the outstanding questions is what conditions lead to the most extreme electron acceleration events, creating massive energy fluxes at highly supra-thermal, up to relativistic, energies.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in optimization techniques for vehicle aerodynamic applications
The field of research is in optimization (gradient-based, surrogate models, etc.) and AI techniques with the purpose of improving the underbody of a vehicle and identifying local zones where shape deformation will result on drag and lift minimization. With electrification, new design opportunities can be explored with less limitations compared to traditional ICE vehicles. As the design space is large, smart algorithms need to be used, particularly since high-resolution CFD computations are expensive to run. To start, a reduced scale model will be considered as the development of the optimization procedure can be accelerated this way. The resulting methodology will also be tested for the control of the flow with the use of adaptive aerodynamic devices. Such devices can make a positive contribution to increase the energy efficiency and the driving range of future vehicles.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in carbon cycle science
We are looking for an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to study carbon fluxes between the land and atmosphere on a global to regional scale. The overarching aim is to quantify and understand recent changes in the natural and anthropogenic components of the carbon cycle using for example ground-based and airborne measurements, satellite observations, numerical modeling, and inverse modeling/data assimilation. The work will be closely connected to ongoing international projects, such as the EU-funded Copernicus CO2 (CoCO2) and Attributing and Verifying European and National Greenhouse gas and aerosol Emissions and Reconciliation with Statistical bottom-up estimates (AVENGERS).
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in noise exposure in future air traffic
The research group of turbomachinery and aeroacoustics, consisting of two professors, one associate professor, one assistant professor, two researchers and 9 Ph.D. students, is part of the Fluid Dynamics division. Focusing on the area of air transport, the group works mainly with aircraft propulsion. This includes system level assessment, engine concept evaluation, and detailed component design and optimization, such as compressors, turbines, transition ducts and heat-exchangers, through implementing combinations of numerical modeling and experiments. Based on the in-house tools developed for aircraft propulsion system design and noise and emissions assessment, the research portfolio of the group has been expanded to multidisciplinary topics, such as air transport management.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in evidence-based urban design and planning, full-time temporary employment
The post-doctoral position is part of the TWIN2EXPAND project that aims at innovating evidence-based urban design and planning by using urban analytics and developing design support tools. The project is a collaboration between Chalmers University of Technology, University of Cyprus, University College London, Polytechnic University of Turin and one pioneering SME practicing EBDP (Space Syntax Limited).* TWIN2EXPAND addresses major and urgent challenges that contemporary cities are faced with, such as rapid climate change, environmental degradation and questions of health, well-being and equity in access to urban resources. Urban planning and design have the responsibility to foster the solutions to mitigate environmental burdens and risks and to create the conditions which enable a high quality of life in cities through effective and just supply and distribution of resources. These challenges are complex and multifaceted; addressing them requires an evidence-based design approach and analytical approaches using spatial analysis. Such an approach ensures that urban challenges are addressed effectively and sustainably, based on sound knowledge and understanding of the impact of design and planning decisions.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in in numerical modeling of falling film evaporators
Falling film evaporators are used in the chemical process and food industry to concentrate solutions in an energy efficient way. For an efficient operation of such plants and to ensure quality of a final product, knowledge of the flow characteristics and evaporation behavior is fundamental to control the factors that govern heat transfer. Changes of design of heat transfer surfaces are a means to increase heat-transfer rates, but positive effects are often impeded by an increase of the pressure drop, fouling, formation of bubbles under evaporative conditions and similar.

Chalmers University of Technology is a Swedish university located in Gothenburg that focuses on research and education in technology, natural sciences, architecture, mathematics, maritime and other management areas. The university was founded in 1829 following a donation by William Chalmers, a director of the Swedish East India Company. He donated part of his fortune for the establishment of an “industrial school”. Chalmers was run as a private institution until 1937, when the institute became a state-owned university. In 1994, the school was incorporated as an aktiebolag under the control of the Swedish Government, the faculty and the Student Union. Chalmers is one of only three universities in Sweden which are named after a person, the other two being Karolinska Institutet and Linnaeus University.
