Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Research Scholar Position – Pain Research

The NIH-funded work evaluating the role of ligand (s)/receptor(s) signaling in osteoarthritis (OA) pain to (1) understand the mechanisms of musculoskeletal pain, and (2) identification of therapeutic targets for musculoskeletal pain using two different mouse models of OA, and naturally occurring OA in owned pet dogs and cats. Both ligand and receptor components will be investigated in normal and disease conditions using naïve and transgenic animals with variety of cellular and molecular approaches. The project involves behavioral assays of pain, function and movement (reflexive, limb use, complex behaviors) in all species; benchtop molecular biology assays (e.g., qPCR, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, Ca2+ imaging, in-situ hybridization, IHC); histology. This will be a two-year minimum position, and this would be the successful candidate’s main focus of work. The successful candidate would be encouraged to formulate and test novel hypotheses, work independently as well as train graduate students. The selected candidate will work under the direct guidance of Dr. Duncan Lascelles (a translational pain researcher, veterinarian and Specialist in Small Animal Surgery) and Dr. Mishra (neurobiologist). The selected candidate will interact/work with a technician dedicated to the project. Other team members include graduate students; Veterinarian Research Assistants; Research Specialist Technicians; undergraduate students. Close on-site faculty collaborators include Drs. Margaret Gruen (veterinarian, Specialist in Behavior, pain researcher) and Mike Nolan (Radiation Oncologist and cancer/pain researcher).

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:    Postdoctoral Research Scholar – DEPP

The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will coordinate a project with the goal of developing sustainable pest management strategies for the western flower thrips (WFT) on tomatoes and peppers in diversified agroecosystems. A major focus will be to identify temporal habitats across farmscapes that serve as seasonal hosts of WFT, and to use this information to develop and test habitat-based preventive management tactics (e.g., adjusting the spatial-temporal arrangement of crops, crop rotation, weed management) that reduce the risk of infestation in tomatoes and peppers. The project will require extensive sampling of thrips and natural enemies, and statistical analysis to quantify habitat suitability and understand interactions among thrips, natural enemies and host plant communities. Insecticide resistance among WFT populations from different agricultural production systems will also be assessed. The incumbent will be expected to publish in peer-reviewed journals, develop extension content for educating stakeholders, present results of the project at scientific and grower/commodity meetings, prepare project reports, and supervise technical staff and student workers.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:    Postdoctoral Research Scholar

A postdoctoral research scholar position is immediately available; the successful candidate will lead DOD and NIH-funded projects. One project aims to improve the outcome of intestinal transplantation by decreasing ischemia-reperfusion injury that occurs during traditional storage methods. A second project is  studying the role of the injury resistant intestinal stem cell population to mediate repair following prolonged ischemic injury. The projects involve benchtop cell culture experiments (2D and 3D intestinal stem cell culture), flow- cytometry, immunofluorescence, ex-vivo normothermic machine perfusion, studies using surgical pig models, and potentially some rodent work. This will be
a two-year minimum position.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Research Scholar (Attribution)
The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will contribute to climate science analyses and perform targeted cutting-edge research on the causes of extreme weather and climate-related events as well as associated sustained attribution activities. This will include the use of traditional climate monitoring frameworks to help define the boundaries of events, synthesis of different climate trend and climate variability components which may be responsible for climate extremes, leveraging seasonal hindcast data sets to assess how the probability density function (PDF) of daily variability (and its extremes) is influenced by climate trend and climate variability, and assessment of private-sector and public-partner attribution needs. Targeted research topics may include meteorological interpretation of extreme event trends, causes of regional variations, and weather system analysis of CMIP6 simulations.
