Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow
Under the direction of Dr. Derek Sant’Angelo (PI) the Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for the performance and analysis of experiments focused on the transcription control of T cell effector functions in the context of diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease or Type 1 Diabetes. The applicant should have a strong background in immunology, cell biology, transcription factors and/or genomics. Experience with mouse models, FACS and/or RNA-seq is preferred. In addition, the candidate will participate in lab meetings, research in progress seminars, prepare manuscripts, assist in grant writing, and is expected to apply for fellowship opportunities.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for the design, analysis, interpretation, and presentation in oral and written form of experiments focused on studying the involvement of the hypothalamus and related brain circuitry in feeding, reward, motivated behavior, and diet-induced obesity. The project is part of a larger effort in the lab to understand the role of subcortical circuitry in normal and pathological feeding and reward processes.

The lab of Dr. Moshmi Bhattacharya at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral research fellow to carry out studies related to metabolic diseases using transgenic mouse models. The Bhattacharya lab has a particular interest in obesity and fatty liver disease. This a grant-funded position is available immediately. Expertise in the use of transgenic mouse models, mammalian cell culture techniques and background in cell and molecular biology with technical knowledge in basic biochemical techniques, including IHC/IF, FACS, siRNA, protein and nucleic acid chemistry is required. Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow for the Department of Pharmacology, Physiology, and Neuroscience within the New Jersey Medical School. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), the Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct research studying the crosstalk between the cerebrovascular system and the nervous system to understand the molecular mechanism underlying cerebrovascular deficits in Alzheimer’s disease (AD). Increasing evidence suggests that cerebrovascular and glymphatic dysfunction is one of the pathological hallmarks of this disease. AD patients suffer from cerebral microinfarcts and damaged cerebral vasculature, and a majority of patients with dementia present with both AD and vascular pathologies. Furthermore, some cerebrovascular symptoms such as white matter hyperintensity, start to increase 5 – 10 years before cognitive impairment onset. Circulatory deficiencies could therefore play an important role in AD progression, but the mechanism underlying the vascular contribution to AD is still unclear. Based on this idea, we are investigating to identify molecular targets and biomarkers underlying cerebrovascular and glymphatic dysfunction in AD.

The primary purpose of the Postdoctoral Appointee position is to support the conduct of multilevel neighborhood, environmental, lifestyle and biomarker-based epidemiologic research in the Cancer Epidemiology and Health Outcomes Section of the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey under the direction of division faculty. Our faculty, led by Dr. Elisa Bandera, lead extramurally funded research programs in breast, ovarian, and prostate cancer funded by NIH and non-federal grants. We conduct studies in geographically, socioeconomically, and racially diverse populations in New Jersey and other states to identify modifiable risk factors and systems that drive cancer burden and disparities. Data sources range from population-based cohort studies and registry cohorts. We work with diverse populations and data sources through collaborations with the New Jersey State Cancer Registry and ongoing community-based cohorts of cancer survivors including the Women’s Circle of Health Follow-up Study, one of the largest population-based studies of Black female breast cancer survivors. Our multidisciplinary group has expertise in cancer disparities, nutritional and obesity epidemiology, environmental health, and geospatial analysis, providing opportunities for training in technical and substantive epidemiologic methods.
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Postdoctoral Fellow will assist with the conduct of cancer epidemiologic, health services and clinical studies and analyses in support of the specialized research activities of the laboratory.
