We offer an attractive Research Associate position in Computer Vision for vision-based anomaly detection.The successful candidate will join the Computer Vision, machine Intelligence and Imaging (CVI²) research group (http://cvi2.uni.lu) headed by Prof. Djamila Aouada to conduct exciting research with high impact in collaboration with multiple stakeholders. He/she will help in shaping research directions within a European project involving multiple interdisciplinary partners. He/she will perform the following tasks:

As a researcher you will push the boundaries of data analysis in digital history. Embedded in a team of committed historians, designers, and developers you will advocate the use of data analysis at the center and seek for new opportunities to demonstrate its potential. You will collaborate with our partner institutions in Luxembourg and all over the world to establish new paradigms for data analysis. We expect you to disseminate the results of your research widely. In your day to day work you will consult colleagues at the center with advice on tailor made solutions for their data analysis challenges. In a strategic perspective, your goal is to shape the discourse on data analysis in the wider community of digital humanities and history.

The candidate will work on the SoilRF project funded by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) to explore and evaluate the usability and effectiveness of LoRa radio frequency signals in soil monitoring. The research aims to propose novel methodologies across software and hardware stacks to re-use LoRa signals for soil sensing and develop a prototype system enabling soil monitoring at a low cost. The target soil properties include VWC, bulk density, and soil compositions.

The Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (University of Luxembourg) announces a three to five years Post-Doctoral position in 20^th Century European History, starting January 15, 2024.

Research projects related to the main axis of the EHI team (Contemporary History of Europe), i.e. networks, memories, infrastructures, media, experts, etc. would be particularly welcome.  A digital history part would be very much appreciated too

The open position in part of a JPND project, funded by FNR. The project aims to enhance the outcome of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) in Parkinson’s disease (PD) through the individualization and optimization of stimulation settings. Our vision is to replace the current practice of selecting stimulation pulse width, amplitude, and frequency by trial and error with a model-based patient- specific calculation. This will be achieved by incorporating insights from novel clinical studies into individualized mathematical models underpinning clinically relevant DBS programming tools. The consortium is composed of neurologists, electrical and control engineers, computer scientists, movement scientists, and neurosurgeons from four European countries.

A two-years postdoctoral position in Theoretical/Computational Solid-State Physics is available in the group of Prof. Ludger Wirtz at the Department of Physics and Materials Science. The project deals with the development of new ab-initio methods for the calculation of luminescence spectra of 2D materials. The focus will be on materials with indirect bandgap where exciton-phonon coupling is needed for the proper description of phonon-assisted luminescence.

This is a fully funded postdoc position for 2 years within a large, national research project (INSTRUCT – INtegrated Satellite-TeRrestrial Systems for Ubiquitous Beyond 5G CommunicaTions). The project is run in close cooperation with SES (https://www.ses.com/). Therefore, the objectives of the postdoc are defined inaccordance to the INSTRUCT directions, and also aligned with the research interest of SES towards their next-generation of satellite systems. More precisely, the work aims at addressing the challenges of a seamless integration between 6G networks and multi-layered non-terrestrial systems.

The Metabolomics Platform is a mass spectrometry service facility within the LCSB. Its main goal is to offer analytical services to research groups at the LCSB and in Luxembourg. Our vision is to not only act as a measurement facility but to offer consulting in experimental design for metabolism related analyses to provide optimal results. It is also to provide and develop analytical methods to address a broad spectrum of biological questions. The unit comprises state-of-the-art instruments including LC-MS, IC-MS and GC-MS instruments (with Orbitrap, QQQ, QToF and QTRAP mass analyzers).

Skyrmions are magnetic structures which can be characterized by a topological winding number. They have been realized experimentally in ferromagnetic systems and have a significant potential for technological applications in data storage devices. While skyrmions have initially been studied in classical magnetic systems, recent years have witnessed a soaring interest in understanding skyrmions in nanoscale systems and even in quantum spin systems. The aim of this project is to study the properties of such quantum skyrmions, to compare them to their classical counterparts, and to study possible experimental signatures in magnetic neutron scattering experiments.

The research group focuses on wireless/satellite communications and networking and is headed by Prof. Symeon Chatzinotas. The research areas focus on the formulation, modeling, design, and analysis of future 5G and beyond communication networks that are capable of supporting new services in a cost-efficient manner. Use cases of interest include IoT verticals, unmanned aerial vehicles, integrated satellite-space-terrestrial networks, quantum communications and key distribution, spectrum management and coexistence, tactile Internet, and autonomous transportation. The successful candidate will primarily contribute to the large EU research project Lux4QCI Luxembourg Experimental Network for Quantum Communication Infrastructure). The project is part of the Digital Europe Program (DIGITAL) and aims to deliver the first experimental quantum communication infrastructure (QCI) network in Luxembourg. A distinctive feature is the by-design integration between the terrestrial and the satellite segment. Lux4QCI envisions making Luxembourg a QCI front-runner and a hub for secure key distribution across the EU. To achieve those goals, Lux4QCI will identify use cases of interest for application scenarios of quantum key-distribution (QKD)-enhanced secure communications. The intended QCI will be nationally deployed through multiple terrestrial optical fibers running hundreds of kilometers and interconnecting at least 5 points of presence. The network will rely on a hybrid configuration combining multiple QKD technologies over a range of multihop topologies (e.g., star, serial, and tree). The intended architecture contains an orchestrator collocated with a node. The orchestrator consists of a network manager with SDN/network-function virtualisation (NFV) algorithms for flow management/routing, a quantum key-distribution network (QKDN) controller, which performs routing control of key relay, and a QKDN manager, which monitors the status of the QKDN and assists the key management system (KMS) for key-management operations.
