(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: POSTDOC: UPDATE OF AN EXISTING SYSTEMATIC REVIEW IN THE FIELD OF HEALTH SCIENCES

About the project: Cervical artery dissection (CAD) is an increasingly recognized cause of ischemic stroke among the young and middle-aged individuals. The reason why these dissections occur in otherwise healthy appearing young individuals remains unknown, although numerous risk factors have been postulated. It is easy to understand why certain risk factors may predispose a patient to dissection. For example, connective tissue provides mechanical stability and elasticity to the vessel wall; therefore, structural impairments could lead to weaknesses at points of decreased resistance, resulting in rupture. However, other risk factors are more difficult to explain (e.g. a recent infection, trivial trauma, or common neck movements, which are pervasive in society).

Deadline : 12/05/2023.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW A MULTI-OMICS APPROACH TO BUILD AN INTEGRATIVE WELLBEING FRAMEWORK

In light of major demographic trends, building and maintaining health and wellbeing amongst citizens is one of the most important societal challenges countries face. People who feel well, function better, are less susceptible to mental illness, and thus are better able to retain competitive advantage and expand human capital. People who feel well also facilitate social capital by enjoying stronger and more-lasting relationships. In this project, we, as a team, aim to define static and dynamic multi-omics pathways to understand the catalysing effects of wellbeing, understand multi-omics-by-WB training interaction, and aim to build an integrative WB framework. We will combine longitudinal (multi-level) modelling, machine learning, and multi-omics-by-training interaction approaches. You will make use of data of the Netherlands Twin Register (www.tweelingenregister.org) and other sources, such as the UK Biobank.

Deadline : 12/05/2023.

This position is part of a European research project in which you will lead a transdisciplinairy study that explores the needs and expectations of key stakeholders within and beyond healthcare systems in Portugal, Germany, Greece, Peru and the Netherlands to engage with so-called nature-based therapies (NBTs). Nature-based therapies (NBT) are seen as treatments that promote well-being and support health prevention and rehabilitation through dedicated programmes in green spaces. Successful uptake of such therapies in present-day healthcare systems in Europe requires transformations in health care governance.

About  The Vrije University Amsterdam, Netherlands –Official Website

The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam is a public research university in Amsterdam, Netherlands, founded in 1880, and consistently ranks among the top 150 universities in the world by major ranking tables. The VU is one of two large, publicly funded research universities in the city, the other being the University of Amsterdam (UvA). The literal translation of the Dutch name Vrije Universiteit is “Free University”. “Free” refers to independence of the university from both the State and the Dutch Reformed Church. Both within and outside the university, the institution is commonly referred to as “the VU”. Although founded as a private institution, the VU has received government funding on a parity basis with public universities since 1970. The university is located on a compact urban campus in the southern Buitenveldert neighbourhood of Amsterdam and adjacent to the modern Zuidas business district.

In 2014, the VU had 23,656 registered students, most of whom were full-time students. That year, the university had 2,263 faculty members and researchers, and 1,410 administrative, clerical and technical employees, based on FTE units. The university’s annual endowment for 2014 was circa €480 million. About three quarters of this endowment is government funding; the remainder is made up of tuition fees, research grants, and private funding.

The official university seal is entitled The Virgin in the Garden. Personally chosen by Abraham Kuyper, the Reformed-Protestant leader and founder of the university, it depicts a virgin living in freedom in a garden while pointing towards God, referring to the Protestant Reformation in the Netherlands in the 16th and 17th century. In 1990, the university adopted the mythical griffin as its common emblem.
