(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doc position on macroalgal blue carbon in the Arctic

Marine vegetated ecosystems support carbon storage, so-called blue carbon, as well as multiple other ecosystem functions. The role of macroalgae for carbon cycling and storage is challenging to quantify because macroalgal detritus is exported by ocean currents to sinks beyond the habitats and documentation of the storage therefore requires fingerprinting methods to document the macroalgal origin. The project involves studying these fluxes from the coastal habitat, tracing macroalgae in Arctic marine sediments by eDNA and stable isotopes and evaluating the contribution of macroalgae to carbon storage. The Post Doc is expected to contribute to analyses of field- and experimental information on macroalgal eDNA and decomposition in marine sediments, bioinformatic- and statistical analyses, and writing of scientific papers. The position also involves project management as well as contribution to further establish eDNA methods and developing mapping, monitoring and management strategies for Nordic/Arctic blue carbon habitats.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Chemical Engineering for Gas Hydrate Study

While different technologies exist for carbon capture as the first link in CCS, to achieve the EU Green Deal’s ambitious path for decarbonization, novel, less energy-demand technologies must be developed, especially when small to medium size emission sources are considered. Carbon capture via Gas Hydrate is one of the promising new technology that could be used for all scales of CCS; however, it will open up an opportunity for smaller emitters to engage in the global efforts of reducing GHG emissions.  The position will focus on searching for better gas hydrate promoters to reduce the operating pressure of a gas hydrate-based carbon capture (GHBCC) technology as a means to reduce the energy demand of the process. In addition, the chemo-physical properties of new promoters should be suitable for industrial application. In this 2-year postdoc research, you will search for new promoters, screen potential candidates according to their chemo-physical properties, experimentally determine the Hydrate-liquid-vapor (HLV) phase boundaries of flue gas, lean and rich streams, measure the kinetics behaviors, optimize a GHBCC process, and study the techno-economics of the proposed process.

Top 16 Tools for Researchers in 2022

(17) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc: Unleashing the potential of biomolecular condensates in enzyme biotechnology

Recently, it has been discovered cells contain a wide variety of membrane-less organelles also known as biomolecular condensates. Many of these condensates are believed to act as reaction crucibles for enzymatic processes – accelerating reactions by bringing together enzymes and substrates, and by creating a more favorable chemical environment for the reactions to occur. On the other hand, other condensates quench chemical reactions by embedding molecules into a physically arrested state – suggesting that it is non-trivial to predict the effects of condensate on enzymes.
In this project, we aim to design new condensates to act as hosts for enzymatic cascades. We will initially focus on natural compounds from the flavonoid family and attempt to engineer condensates that boost the efficiency and specificity of the pathway. The project will involve experimental microbiology, biochemistry and biophysics but may also involve theoretical elements of quantitative modelling. There will be considerable room for the successful candidate to shape the project within the overall project theme. Further details about the project will be provided for short-listed candidates.
