Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoc in Characterization and metabolic modeling of methane fed microbiomes for co-metabolism of trace organic chemicals in groundwater – DTU Sustain

Intense agricultural and farming activities lead to pollution of the environment via run-off of nutrients and other organic pollutants (e.g., pesticides) to different water bodies. High nutrient levels can lead to eutrophication and may reach levels that prevent water use for drinking purposes. The project will address the removal of nutrients and pesticides from groundwater taking advantage of methane already present in many groundwater streams. The project relies on the use of bioinformatics to characterize the methane fed microbiomes and provide input data for metagenome based metabolic models. These models are then used to optimize bioreactors to treat groundwater. The postdoc will work with a team of interdisciplinary researchers as part of the project Metagenome-based Metabolic Modeling for Green transition of Water Treatment – application to Methanotrophy, granted by the Danish Research Council.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Nitrogen Activation into NH3 or NOx using Photo or Electrochemical Approaches – DTU Physics

The SurfCat section at DTU Physics is seeking a candidate for postdoc position in nitrogen activation into NH3 or NOx using Photo or electrochemical approaches.  We have a successful record of activating molecular nitrogen through the electrochemical Li mediated process. Nevertheless, the potential requirement by using Li is very high and we are therefore looking for alternative method for activating molecular Nitrogen. This can either be by using alternative metals to Li that are much less electronegative or by activating the nitrogen into NOx. Both pathways are considered equally good from a fertilizer standpoint although ammonia could also be used as an energy vector if produced with less energy consumption than now. The work will be focussed around our well-equipped laboratory where we have facilities for synthesis, test and characterization. We also have a micro reactor platform which is unique to most other facilities which includes use under electrochemical as well as photo-catalytic conditions. SurfCat is known for its extensive use of surface science methods and includes the most advanced methods of microscopy though it collaboration with VISION. Visiting large scale facilities such as synchrotrons for EXAFS and High-pressure XPS measurements may also be envisioned for most promising catalysts.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc (3-year) on Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) Source based on Lithium Niobate on Insulator Photonics – DTU Electro

This postdoc project, which is tied to the Danmarks Frie Forskningsfond (DFF) “Fully integrated 4D LiDAR on a Lithium Niobate photonic chip (LiDAR-on-a-chip)” project, will investigate Integrated FMCW laser on the Lithium Niobate on Insulator (LNOI) platform aiming for a 15-GHz modulation range and a >1 MHz tuning rate. Light detection and ranging (LiDAR), a sensing technology based on laser light, holds great promise for allowing autonomous machines to see and navigate the world with very high precision. “LiDAR-on-a-chip” describes a system with the lasers, electronics, detectors, and optical beam-steering mechanism all integrated onto semiconductor chips. It significantly reduces the size, weight, and power requirements by integrating all of the key components onto the smallest footprint possible. One of the key components that enables both distance and velocity sensing is frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) source, which can be realized by cascading a distributed feedback (DFB) laser source with a tunable high-Q resonator for lasing mode selection. In LiDAR systems, the frequency modulation typically needs to be 15 GHz with fast tuning rate of more than MHz to achieve a high resolution. However, none of the state-of-the-art solutions is able to meet the requirement, either limited by the tuning rate or limited by the frequency modulation range.
The postdoc will design and fabricate high-Q microring resonators on LNOI for FMCW lasing mode selection. Coupled tunable microring resonator with different geometry will be designed to significantly improve the frequency modulation range. The postdoc is also going to investigate transfer-printing process to introduce the DFB laser on the LNOI platform. The optimized design will be fabricated in our state-of-the-art cleanroom DTU Nanolabs (Nationalt Center for Nanofabrikation og -karakterisering). The controlling circuits will be developed to control the fabricated FMCW laser. The end goal is to achieve a FMCW laser with the III-V material based DFB and high-Q microring resonator on the LNOI platform.

(17) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc for Fabricating the Next-Generation Magnetometers using 2D Materials – DTU Energy

Do you want to contribute to a future where we can use 2D materials to understand diseases in the human brain by measuring the tiny magnetic fields created by neurons in the brain? In a joint project between DTU and University of Copenhagen (KU) we are targeting exactly this, and we are looking for a dedicated postdoc to carry out research in high-performance extraordinary magnetoresistance and Hall magnetometers based on 2D materials. It is possible to get a deeper understanding of how the brain functions in a non-invasive way through sensing the tiny magnetic fields produced by neuronal currents. Today, this need is primarily met by quantum sensors that must be operated at cryogenic temperatures, which greatly increases the complexity and cost of making such measurements. Therefore, research on alternative methods to detect tiny magnetic fields are a top priority. In a large Novo Nordisk Foundation sponsored project called Biomag, we aim to create magnetic sensors with subpicotesla sensitivity and use these sensors to map neuron activity at room-temperature. As part of this large project, we are looking for a postdoc to help us fabricate and characterize van der Waals heterostructures based on 2D materials (starting from hBN/graphene/hBN) and turn these into heterostructures into high-performing magnetometers.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Theory of Quantum Correlations in Macroscopic Systems and Applications to Information Security – DTU Physics

Are you intrigued by the fundamental mysteries of quantum physics and their relation to other physical theories and are you excited by applications to novel quantum technology? Then keep reading. At the Section for Quantum Physics and Information Technology at DTU Physics, we seek an excellent, highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to work on the theory of quantum correlations. Quantum systems can display correlations that defy classical notions of cause and effect. Quantum entanglement and nonlocality represent a fundamental departure from a classical description of nature and are central to the foundations of modern physics. Pioneering observations of these phenomena motivated the 2022 Nobel prize in physics. Yet, there is much we still do not understand, in particular how quantum correlations behave in large systems where thermodynamic effects become important, or in systems with significant mass. At the same time, nonlocal correlations have technological applications, enabling information processing at an unprecedented level of security, known as device independent. The goal of this project is to explore both fundamental aspects of quantum correlations and their relation to thermodynamics and gravity as well as applications to new device-independent schemes for quantum key distribution or randomness certification that may be realized in experiment.

(23) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in the fabrication of metal supported solid oxide cells – DTU Energy

If you are planning to establish your career as a materials scientist with particular attention towards electrochemical energy conversion and storage devices and looking for best possible platforms to fulfil your goal, DTU energy is offering a postdoctoral position in the fabrication of metal supported solid oxide cells. The position is a part of our broad project portfolio in the area of development and upscaling of metal supported solid oxide cell technology. The reduction and finally removal of fossil fuels in the energy and transport sector is an important ambition, seconded by specific targets in several parts of the world. In this context, shares of electricity production from wind and solar are increasing. The fluctuating and interruptive nature of these sources require means of storage and “difficult-to-electrify” sectors (shipping and aviation) needs green fuels. Solid oxide electrolysis (SOE) technologies owing to their high efficiencies can solve this challenge by converting excess electricity into storable compounds such as hydrogen and high energy density transportation fuels. SOE have reached a matureness allowing for demonstration and field-testing, based on electrolyte-, fuel electrode-, and metal-supported cell (MSCs) configurations. Among those, MSCs have received particular attention because of their mechanical robustness and reduced costs compared to the other configurations. To further mature this technology, development of scalable and robust fabrication process for the manufacturing of MSCs is crucial.
