(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: RE-ADVERTISEMENT: Post Doc on CO2 to Protein

The project will focus on a biotechnological approach to radically change the way our societies produce food and chemicals. Current production schemes relies heavily on area use and fossil resources, and this must be fundamentally changed. Our societies emit too much carbon dioxide. This emission can be lowered by using carbon dioxide as a feedstock to produce methane, protein, and chemicals, as part of the power-to-gas, power-to-protein, and power-to-chemicals (power-to-x) transformation. Renewable power is first utilized to split water into hydrogen and oxygen gas, which can, for example, be used as electron donor and acceptor, respectively, in our 2-stage bioprocess system. This system reduces carbon dioxide into acetate with hydrogen in the first bioreactor and then oxidizes acetate with oxygen in the second bioreactor. We are looking for a post-doctoral research associate that can build and operate anaerobic gas fermentation bioreactors at the liter scale to optimize the carbon dioxide reduction bioprocess. The successful candidate is expected to be involved in managing the project, which includes the supervision of bachelor and master students. Furthermore, she/he will closely interact with collaboration partners. Therefore, very good English language skills are necessary. Other requirements include the ability to work independently and in teams, have excellent management and communication skills, and be self-motivated. The candidate will have the opportunity to present her/his results in international journals and conferences.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Landscape Scenarios with Stakeholder Involvement

The Department of Agroecology at Aarhus University, Denmark, is offering a fulltime postdoctoral position in Landscape Scenarios with Stakeholder Involvement, starting December 1st 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter. The position will be available for a 3-year period. Food security, climate change and loss of biodiversity represent three of today’s major societal challenges. Finding solutions for all these issues requires stakeholder dialogue and involvement in relation to scenario building for the development of sustainable agricultural landscapes, and studies that extend across multiple scales. The Land-CRAFT centre was formed in June 2022 to undertake fundamental and applied research from field to landscape scales that will address these societal challenges. The development of digital technologies, including modelling and remote sensing, as well as socioeconomic analysis, will be key components of this centre, and a cross-disciplinary team of researchers is being assembled to work at field, farm and landscape scales. Most decisions concerning land use and management in agricultural landscapes are taken at the farm scale, so the integration with farm-scale modelling will be a central tool to drive scenarios, including the farmer as a decision-maker. Simultaneously, the understanding of landscape processes is important to assess the environmental, climate and biodiversity effects, pivotal for green transition of agriculture, and the development of sustainable production landscapes. This also relates to series of stakeholders and interest groups to be involved, including policy makers locally, nationally and internationally, and surveys related to stakeholders in a geographical context.

(11) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doc in Agro-emission mitigation

You will be part of a project aiming to develop and test technologies to mitigate emissions from livestock slurry storages. Slurry storages are a significant source of methane emissions in the agricultural manure management chain. You are expected to take a main role in proceeding with development of experimental facilities and validation in pilot-scale of different slurry treatments technologies including acidification and a new technology based on controlled oxidation of slurry to mitigate methane (CH4) from slurry storages without increasing emission of other gases, such as ammonia (NH3) and N2O. The project will include both house and storage emissions in the manure chain. State-of-the-art analytical methods will be applied e.g., cavity ring-down spectroscopy (CRDS) and proton-transfer-reaction mass spectrometry (PTR-MS). It is an advantage if you can contribute to validating and developing process-based models for calculating methane emission from stored liquid manure. The project involves close collaboration both internally and with external partners. You will be responsible for independent research in order to develop and optimize new technology. The LESS project aims to provide implementable mitigation technologies for livestock slurry storages and is an important contribution to the green transition in agricultural production.

(12) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Structural Chemistry

Ionic liquids (ILs) as room temperature molten salts are receiving incredible attention as solvents and smart materials chemistry because of their unique properties and property combinations unattainable from solvents. The properties, such as the liquidus ranges, non-volatility, thermal and chemical stability and controllable solvent properties, can be easily modified by changing the ionic components of the liquid. Tremendous progress has been made using ILs for various applications particularly as solvents and electrolytes in the context of green chemistry. However, ILs have been widely neglected as a medium for syntheses in inorganic and materials chemistry, albeit they have many advantageous properties, especially in controlling and tuning nanostructure. As a Villum Investigator, Prof. Anja-Verena Mudring is concerned with exploring ILs as smart materials for the synthesis of nanomaterials for green and environmentally friendly applications, such as for organic lighting, catalysis, thermal energy conversion and storage.

(21) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in the Philosophy of Pathocentric Epistemic Injustice at the Department of Philosophy,

The position is part of the project “Epistemic Injustice in Diagnosis” (funded as an AUFF Starting Grant), led by Associate Professor Anke Bueter. The project aims to rethink the diagnostic process in medicine as a collaborative epistemic endeavour involving (teams of) professionals as well as patients, rather than being done primarily by individual clinicians, and as embedded in particular social contexts. Such an understanding as shared epistemic process makes diagnosis amenable to analysis via resources from social epistemology. In particular, the project will examine the contribution of epistemic injustice to avoidable diagnostic errors, such as, e.g., diagnostic delays in particular, marginalized groups of patients. At the same time, this application aims to contribute to the conceptual discussions regarding different forms of pathocentric epistemic injustice from an empirically informed perspective, as well as to debates about how to ameliorate such injustices. The postdoctoral researcher will be working on a sub-project of their own design in the framework of the project. For example, such a project could concentrate on the role of hermeneutical injustice in mental illness, or reflect the increasing use of artificial intelligence in the diagnostic process regarding its effects on epistemic injustices. The successful applicant is expected to participate in project activities, such as organizing workshops, presenting at international conferences, and closely collaborate with the project leader.
