Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate in Inorganic Chemistry
Postdoctoral Research Associate in inorganic chemistry working on the EPSRC funded project entitled ‘The development of multi-metallic low oxidation state main-group compounds’ in the group of Dr Clare Bakewell, Department of Chemistry, King’s College London. Multi-metallic low oxidation state compounds have the potential to transform main-group chemistry, elevating stoichiometric reactivity to catalytic processes that rival transition metal systems. This project pursues this aim through the systematic development of new multi-metallic complexes and detailed understanding of their structure and reactivity. This will involve developing new multi-metallic low oxidation state main-group compounds, with unprecedented structure and bonding. These innovative compounds will lead to novel reactivity benefitting from the synergistic and cooperative behaviour of multi-metallic complexes, building towards the creation of catalytic redox reactivity that exploits the abundance, cost effectiveness and the environmental impact of main-group elements. Research in the Bakewell group is centred around the synthesis and reactivity of main-group organometallic compounds in unusual oxidation states, therefore a strong back ground in synthetic inorganic chemistry is essential – applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry, in an area related to the themes described above (or be very close to completion at time of application).

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate
Animal cells express genes and pathways that naturally inhibit the replication of viruses. The balance between these innate/intrinsic inhibitors and the many factors that promote replication establishes the tempo of virus infection and, ultimately, contributes to disease outcome. Research in Prof Malim’s lab primarily addresses interactions between human cells, genes & proteins and pathogenic human viruses, including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), influenza A virus (IAV) and severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) – all with a view to understanding the fundamental principles that underpin virus infection, replication, transmission, zoonosis and pathogenesis. Projects employ a multi-disciplinary blend of experimental approaches that draws upon molecular-genetic, cultured cell, biochemical, structural, bioinformatic and cohort-based methodologies. The Malim lab collaborates closely with Prof Rebecca Oakey’s group on the transcriptomic responses of human cells to HIV infection (e.g., Bauby, H., et al (2021) HIV-1 Vpr induces widespread transcriptomic changes in CD4+ T-cells early post-infection. mBio 12, e01369-21.). Together, the groups have recently undertaken a single cell analysis in infected CD4 T cells to define the cellular gene expression signatures that correspond with high levels of HIV gene expression. Functional studies will address the role(s) of specific genes in regulating HIV infection as well as the mechanism(s) by which HIV can alter the expression of cellular genes.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate in Nutritional Epidemiology
This project needs a motivated, ambitious researcher to work on an exciting body of research to study the inter-relationships between diet, lifestyle and menopause (funded by the British Menopuase Society). You will be joining the Department of Nutritional Sciences at King’s College London, working in collaboration with ZOE Ltd. You will first analyse data collected from the ZOE PREDICT cohorts (n=100,000) and ZOE Health Studies (n~450,000) to answer research questions relating to diet and menopause. You will also build on this first phase of data analysis research to design and implement a remote app-based diet-lifestyle-symptom trial. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate in the Department of Randall Cell & Molecular Biophysics.
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position to work on data assessment for single molecule localization microscopy in the Randall Centre for Cell and Molecular Biophysics within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine at King’s College London. This position is funded by a 3-year grant from the BBSRC Bioinformatics and Biological Resources fund. Single molecule localization microscopy (SMLM) is a popular super-resolution fluorescence microscopy technique which has become widely used over the last fifteen years. However, producing the final images in this technique is completely dependent on image analysis of raw data, and this process is prone to generating artefacts which are not visually obvious and can lead to misleading results. Detecting these artefacts and determining image features such as spatial resolution is crucial for ensuring that accurate biological conclusions are drawn from SMLM images. In this position, you will be working with the groups of Susan Cox and Siân Culley, two leaders in the field of SMLM data assessment, Nicholas Anthony from the KCL Microscopy Innovation Centre, and a research software engineer to develop new approaches to SMLM data assessment and integrate them into packages which are of wide use to the global microscopy community.

About King’s College London, United Kingdom – Official Website
King’s College London (informally King’s or KCL) is a public research university located in London, United Kingdom, and a founding college and member institution of the federal University of London. In 1836, King’s became one of the two founding colleges of the University of London. In the late 20th century, King’s grew through a series of mergers, including with Queen Elizabeth College and Chelsea College of Science and Technology (in 1985), the Institute of Psychiatry (in 1997), the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals and the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery (in 1998).
King’s has five campuses: its historic Strand Campus in central London, three other Thames-side campuses (Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Waterloo) nearby and one in Denmark Hill in south London. It also has a presence in Shrivenham for its professional military education and in Newquay, Cornwall, where its information service centre is based. In 2019/20, King’s had a total income of £964.3 million, of which £200.5 million was from research grants and contracts. It has the fourth largest endowment of any university in the United Kingdom, and the largest of any in London. It is the 12th largest university in the United Kingdom by total enrolment. Its academic activities are organised into nine faculties, which are subdivided into numerous departments, centres, and research divisions.
It is a member of academic organisations including the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the European University Association, and the Russell Group. King’s is home to six Medical Research Council centres and is a founding member of the King’s Health Partners academic health sciences centre, Francis Crick Institute and MedCity. It is the largest European centre for graduate and post-graduate medical teaching and biomedical research, by number of students, and includes the world’s first nursing school, the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery. King’s is at times regarded as part of the “golden triangle” of universities located in the cities of Oxford, Cambridge and London.
