This position is part of a joint collaboration between the two of the largest research programs in Sweden, the Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) and the SciLifeLab and Wallenberg National Program for Data-Driven Life Science (DDLS), with the ultimate goal of solving ground-breaking research questions across disciplines. Wallenberg AI, Autonomous Systems and Software Program (WASP) is Sweden’s largest individual research program ever, a major national initiative for strategically motivated basic research, education and faculty recruitment. The program addresses research on artificial intelligence and autonomous systems acting in collaboration with humans, adapting to their environment through sensors, information and knowledge, and forming intelligent systems-of-systems. Read more: htps://wasp-sweden.org/ Within the WASP-DDLS financed project “Enlightening biology: bridging time-resolved experiments in silico”, two postdocs will work jointly on designing visual analysis methods with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of light-induced biological processes. Large-scale simulations rooted in quantum mechanics are currently being developed to understand light-induced processes in biological systems that produce complex, feature-rich, and high-dimensional data in addition to traditional molecular dynamics trajectories. However, extracting meaningful information from this data that provides new insight is still an open challenge. The goal of this postdoc position is to explore and develop a variety of novel analysis and visualization techniques with the aim to capture meaningful summaries of, and the features within, this complex high-dimensional data. Techniques from topological data analysis (TDA) will be extensively used to summarize and define robust comparison metrics for scalar and multifield data, as well as for tasks such as extraction, comparison, and tracking of features within. From the perspective of visualization, we aim to develop novel methods to combine the sub-fields of molecular and multifield visualization. We anticipate that our innovative methods will pave the way for a new, independent sub-area within the field of scientific visualization research, with significant potential for growth in the future.

A Postdoc will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time. The objective of this PostDoc is to develop methods for the analysis and visualization of data collected from a new Photon-Counting Detector Computer Tomograph (PCD-CT) at the Center for Medical Image Science and Visualization (CMIV) at Linköping university. It offers new opportunities in imaging the coronary arteries and assessment of cardiac function. This technology is groundbreaking and currently limited to very few centers in the world. The larger context of this project is to develop a pipeline for the generation of personalized heart models improving the treatment of cardiovascular diseases in the future. You will be part of the team that develops methods to supports an efficient and effective analysis of the data for diagnosis and model building, integrated into a visual data browser with high-quality rendering. Your part involves researching extensions to commonly used methods, like volume rendering or flow visualization, to this new kind of data. A Postdoc will essentially carry out research. The position may also involve teaching, but during no more than a fifth of work time. As a postdoctoral researcher in this project, you will collaborate with medical and technical scientists, as well as clinical colleagues. Pathology diagnostics is a central part of the clinical trajectory for many patients. Pathology involves microscopic study of human tissues and cell samples to detect and classify disease states. As imaging data increasingly is becoming digitized, there are ample opportunities for AI to diagnostically analyze the images – often at a level comparable to human experts. The potential benefits of AI are perhaps greatest in low-resource settings lacking medical resources, which is one target scenario for our research. The method development in this project will be at a high technical level, for instance exploring novel generative methods for histology data. A key aspect of our work is also to thoroughly address the demands from real clinical usage. Such demands include high performance, close adherence to diagnostic workflows, and capacity to deal with data of limited quality. You will be active in an environment with several experts working towards similar goals.

The primary focus of the postdoc positions is to do research in AI and machine learning with a focus on large language models especially how to make them more trustworthy and factual. The position will be in close cooperation with the EU project TrustLLM coordinated by LiU. There will be good opportunities to influence the direction of the research. The primary focus of the postdoc position is research related to AI and education. This includes the impact of AI on education, how to use AI for education, and developing education for AI. The primary focus of the postdoc positions is research in machine learning with applications in industry. The aim is to develop novel machine learning and other data driven AI methods for scaling up and improving industrial processes beyond what humans can do, for further developing the underlying theoretical understanding of important industrial processes, and for facilitating groundbreaking new discoveries based on industrial needs. The position will be in close cooperation with industrial partners. There will be good opportunities to influence the direction of the research. A certain amount of teaching may be part of your duties, up to a maximum of 20% of working hours.

In your future tasks, you will, among other things, record currents from different cardiac ion channels expressed in Xenopus oocytes or HEK cells using voltage clamp. You will also test the effects of various mutations and drugs on these ion channels. Furthermore, you will analyze data and write scientific publications as well as contribute to applying for grants. Supervision of students and PhD students in their research projects can also be part of your work. The postdoc research will deal with questions related to the transition of Swedish cities towards climate-neutrality. The position will be part of the research project “Beyond pilots: Accelerating energy system change for climate neutral cities” which investigates how demonstrations of system change in cities are designed and conceptualized, how their transformative potential can be assessed, and how they can cross-fertilize each other. Moreover, the postdoc will contribute to the Swedish strategic innovation programme “Viable Cities”. A key challenge here will be to study how to map and monitor processes of transformative socio-technical change towards sustainability, and how to make them legible and governable. Research in the project comprises conducting interviews, collecting documents and texts and qualitative analysis of these sources. Work requires close collaboration with project partners and municipalities and shall result in the publication of articles in international journals. As postdoc, you will principally carry out research.
