Postdoctoral position is immediately available for NIH funded research projects to study the biological role of protein modifications and protein isoform diversity in actin cytoskeleton functioning and mouse development. The Vining Lab at Penn Dental Medicine and Penn Engineering is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Fellow who is interested in joining a multi-disciplinary team of scientists and engineers investigating mechanical regulation of inflammation in cancer and regeneration. The Fellow will have the opportunity to learn and develop new materials, cellular systems, and animal models for immuno-mechanical engineering. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Fellow in Machine Learning and Medical Image Analysis
The Department of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine seeks candidates for postdoc fellow positions. The main focus of these positions is on the development of biomedical image analysis algorithms with an emphasis on advanced machine learning (deep learning) methods for MRI/CT/PET data analysis. Responsibilities include involvement in various imaging studies of Alzheimer’s disease, aging, brain development, and neuropsychiatric disorders and supervision of junior research investigators for developing algorithms of image segmentation and registration, time-series data modeling, and pattern recognition. The research will be conducted at the Research Laboratory for Machine Learning and Biomedical Data Analytics of the Center for Biomedical Image Computing and Analytics (CBICA), a dynamically growing medical image computing center, involving several laboratories and many collaborators from diverse fields. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in AI/ML for Biomedical Data Science
Applications are invited for Postdoc Positions in the Shen Lab (https://www.med.upenn.edu/shenlab/) at the Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM) at the University of Pennsylvania. These positions will offer opportunities to develop and apply advanced artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) strategies for integrative analysis of multidimensional imaging, omics, biomarker and clinical data, with applications to the study of complex disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and AD related dementia (ADRD). The following research areas are of particular interest: 1) development of fair and interpretable AI/ML methods for AD/ADRD diagnosis and care management through mining EHR and clinical data; 2) development of transformative AI approaches for high throughput analysis of next generation sequencing and related AD biomarker and cognitive data in landmark AD biobanks for prediction of disease risk, prognosis and progression, identification of disease subtypes, and better understanding of disease mechanism; 3) development of innovative translational big data analytic methods to systematically integrate AD biomarker research and systems medicine study, and to identify novel promising targets and drugs for repositioning against AD; 4) integration of automated machine learning, knowledge database and informatics to advance AD research; 5) identifying novel technology for monitoring aging adults and those with AD/ADRD in their home environment and the AI methods and software for analyzing data generated by those technologies; and 6) methods and applications on natural language processing, large language models and trustworthy AI. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in computational and systems biology
The Tan research group is interdisciplinary and highly collaborative, utilizing both computational and experimental approaches to study gene regulation. We have pioneered multiple computational algorithms for regulatory genomics, epigenomics, and network biology. Specific projects will be defined by the candidates (and based on the candidates expertise) and with input from Dr. Tan and our close collaborators at the Center for Childhood Cancer Research CHOP and Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for development of novel computational algorithms and/or experimental approaches to understand gene regulation in normal and cancer development.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in single-cell cancer genomics
We are seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic candidate for a postdoctoral scholar position. The postdoc will participate in an exciting project that uses various single-cell technologies to understand tumor clonal evolution, transcriptional and epigenetic heterogeneity and signaling within the tumor microenvironment, during standard and immuno therapeutic responses. Research in our group focuses on the development of genomics and bioinformatics methods to analyze sequencing data, and to enable the implementation of genomic medicine in clinical settings. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Tumor Immunology
The techniques involved will include working with mouse models of head and neck cancer and carefully studying the tumor microenvironment using flow cytometry, multiplexed-immunohistochemistry, gene expression analyses (qPCR), protein assessment (ELISA) and others. Manipulation of these model systems with cell cycle checkpoint-targeting as well as immune-based therapies are commonplace in the lab. These in vivo studies will be supplemented by ex vivo studies using organotypic tumor slice cultures of human HPV+ head and neck tumors. The ability to analyze the complex datasets resulting from the above experimentation is essential.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher
We are a multi-disciplinary and collaborative research group seeking highly-motivated investigators to join our program studying rare genetic human diseases of extra-skeletal (heterotopic) bone formation. Inactivating mutations in the human GNAS gene cause POH; heterotopic bone in POH initiates within subcutaneous adipose tissue and is preceded by depletion of the adipose tissue and lipid content. Activating mutations in ACVR1, a BMP type I receptor, cause FOP; in skeletal muscle heterotopic ossification is preceded by an altered immune response and changes in the tissue microenvironment. Opportunities are available to conduct research investigating stem cells in muscle and adipose tissues, tissue regeneration and repair, genetic and epigenetic regulation, chromatin organization, biomechanical signaling, transcriptional regulation, and/or cell/tissue energy metabolism.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral fellow
A Postdoctoral Researcher position is available for a highly motivated applicant in the laboratory of Dr. Fiona Simpkins at the University of Pennsylvania. Our focuses are to understand resistance mechanisms to targeted therapies such as DNA Damage Repair inhibitors (DDRi), to sequence DDRi with Immuno-Oncology (IO) drugs, and to identify biomarkers or response to these agents. We have developed a preclinical drug development program in the Ovarian Cancer Research Center with the goal of moving novel laboratory therapeutic discoveries into the clinic. We have developed >150 patient derived xenografts (PDX) models, patient-derived organoids, and primary tumor cultures from ovarian and endometrial cancers. These PDX models mimic the original tumors, thereby accelerating the translation of preclinical study results into clinical trials for patients. Also, we are “humanizing” our models by autologous tumor infiltrating lymphocyte (TIL) and macrophage (TAM) transfer, creating an autologous in vivo model system. Our laboratory has close collaborations with pharmaceutical companies including AstraZeneca, Merck, REPAIR, Zentalis. Based on preclinical studies from our lab, novel combination therapies have moved to phase 1/2 clinical trials led by Dr Simpkins (e.g. ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03462342 and GY031). We have another two drug combinations also moving into clinical trials. Dr. Simpkins strongly supports career development of postdocs, either developing an independent laboratory in academia or finding a position in industry. We provide a rich multi-disciplinary training environment in animal modeling, molecular biology, genomics, cancer biology, and immunology, and we have sufficient fundings from various sources, including NIH funding to support this. Previous trainees have been awarded with multiple grants including NIH career development K12 grant, OCRA early career grant, AACR fellowship, Rivkin award, OCRA mentored award, FWC grant, KOH grant and Harrison award.
Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher Positions in Cancer Biology
Our research is dedicated to unraveling the contribution of recurrent genomic alterations, both in protein-coding and non-coding regions, to tumorigenesis. Our primary focus is on identifying therapeutic targets and developing combination strategies for the treatment of cancer. To achieve these goals, we have developed a novel computational approach that integrates large-scale genomic, functionomic, and pharmacologic profiles. This innovative methodology has led to the creation of the Functional Cancer Genome data portal (FCG, http://fcgportal.org/home/), which serves as a comprehensive resource for functionally annotating cancer genomes. The newly funded projects will build upon the novel discoveries generated by the FCG project and will involve in-depth molecular characterization of new epigenetic and immuno-oncology drivers in cancer. We are currently recruiting for three related but independent projects: 1) Epigenetic dysregulation and non-coding RNAs in tumorigenesis, 2) Tumor immunology and immune therapy, and 3) Targeted and epigenetic therapy for cancer treatment. To conduct these projects, we employ cutting-edge technologies such as single-cell and spatial RNA sequencing analysis, as well as CRISPR screen and high-throughput chemical screen technologies. Additionally, our lab’s computational biology team provides a wealth of novel computational biology approaches and resources to support these research projects.

The Ky lab is a National Institutes of Health-and American Heart Association-funded internationally recognized program that focuses on advancing the cardiovascular health of patients living with and beyond cancer through clinical science. The Ky Lab has a postdoctoral position in the field of cardiovascular and cancer clinical epidemiology and data science. This position for a clinical researcher involves the use of large datasets comprised of biomarker, echocardiography, genomic, clinical, social determinants of health and other “-omic” data to understand individual patient risk. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post Doctoral Researcher
The Volk laboratory invites applications for a postdoctoral position in our comparative breast cancer program at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. The goals of our laboratory are to understand regulatory mechanisms governing dynamic interactions between cells and their surrounding extracellular matrix in the wound healing-fibrosis-cancer progression triad and to apply this knowledge to develop innovative regenerative and oncologic therapies for veterinary and human patients. One-year positions are available immediately with the option to extend an additional 1-3 years. Using a combination of in vitro and mouse models, as well as human, feline and canine breast cancer biopsy samples, we have initiated multiple lines of investigation that will provide insight into how regulation of the collagen fibrillar matrix and its components, specifically type III collagen, inhibits formation of a tumor-permissive microenvironment. This project capitalizes on our studies using spontaneous naturally occurring large animal models of mammary tumors. Future work will characterize drivers of tumor-permissive and suppressive collagen signatures and investigate the use of a novel tissue engineering strategy to control tumor growth and metastasis following tumor resection to improve clinical outcome in veterinary and human breast cancer patients.

The Laboratory for Structural, Physiologic and Functional Imaging (LSPFI) in the Department of Radiology at the University of Pennsylvania is seeking a qualified and ambitious candidate with a strong interest in magnetic resonance imaging to join our team. LSPFI’s research is aimed at quantitatively characterizing tissue properties and their relationship to physiology and function by means of spatially resolved magnetic resonance in humans (https://www.med.upenn.edu/lspfi/). Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Immunology & Cytokine Storm Biology
The Center for Cytokine Storm Treatment & Laboratory (CSTL) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity to address cytokine storm disorders with major unmet medical need, such as COVID-19 and Castleman disease. Our discoveries in Castleman disease have set the stage for further successful treatments for devastating cytokine storm disorders. The CSTL combines ‘omic analyses of patient biospecimens, hypothesis-driven basic science research, and clinical data analyses to discover and pursue novel therapeutic approaches for cytokine storms through clinical trials and adoption in clinical practice. With a recently renewed R01, the CSTL is focused on applying these approaches to perform deep investigation of mechanisms of immune hyperactivation, JAK/STAT signaling, PI3K/Akt/mTOR signaling, and chemokine signaling in hyperinflammatory conditions. Due to the continued growth of our program, the CSTL, in partnership with the Division of Translational Medicine & Human Genetics and the Fajgenbaum lab are searching for a talented, experienced, and motivated Post-Doctoral Fellow to investigate mechanisms of hyperinflammation related to Castleman disease and other cytokine storm disorders.
