Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdocs in Nuclear Power Safety
Nuclear Power Safety (NPS) Division seeks two engaged postdocs to study (i) in-vessel corium melt retention (IVMR) in small modular reactor (SMR) of PWR type, and (ii) ex-vessel melt-coolant interactions and melt spreading. The projects are supported by Swedish Radiation Safety Authority (https://www.stralsakerhetsmyndigheten.se/) and APRI (https://www.apri.se/). The IVMR research will be towards adaptation of the conventional IVR methodology developed for and used in the medium- and large-power PWRs and its further implementation in new SMR designs. The expected results are demonstration of potential efficiency of the IVMR strategy, which can significantly improve SMR safety performance by preservation of integrity of reactor pressure vessel, i.e. the existing safety barrier. For the research on ex-vessel melt-coolant interactions and melt spreading, the experiments will be performed in the DEFOR and CoSMUS facilities at KTH (https://www.physics.kth.se/nps/research/facilities) toward understanding of relevant phenomena important to ex-vessel corium risk assessment.

Postdoc summary/title: Postdocs in crystallization within hydrometallurgy
We at the division of resource recovery of the department of chemical engineering conduct research within a number of projects with the common objective to develop sustainable recycling processes for separation and recovery of valuable and critical metals from various waste streams. Developing novel, efficient and green recycling processes is of crucial importance in the transition to a circular economy. We are looking for two postdocs to work in two different projects focusing on developing knowledge to design novel hydrometallurgical processes based on controlled crystallization of metal salts. The work includes the design and experimental study of simple model systems as well as more applied studies. The first project is focused on production of NMC cathodes from secondary raw materials. The work at KTH will focus on crystallization of battery precursors and synthesis of cathode material. This is a collaboration project funded by Horizon Europe, which involves close collaboration with other universities and companies in Europe.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Compressible Fluid Dynamics
The project aims at developing robust, reliable and effective techniques for generation of extreme conditions in fluids. Having developed an experimental facility based on electrically induced wire explosion, high pressures, in the range of GPas, in fluids are to be produced with limited resources available in everyday research environment. A unique integration of approaches and resources in high voltage engineering and plasma physics applications will be applied towards classical problems of compressible fluid dynamics. The project investigates by experiment, computation and theory the major physical properties of imploding shock waves in liquids, offers approaches to enhance efficiency of the focal energy concentration, and studies the behavior of matter at such extreme states. The nature of this study is multi-disciplinary, while primarily, it will be carried out at the Fluid Mechanics division within KTH Department of Engineering Mechanics. The project is a part of the ERC-funded project DYNPRESS.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in correlative super-resolution MINFLUX imaging (EU proj. NanoVIB)
We seek an engaged postdoc to join our lab at KTH (http://www.biomolphysics.kth.se/, Widengren lab) to work within an ongoing high-profile EU research project (NanoVIB, https://www.nanovib.eu/). You will work with super-resolution MINFLUX imaging, recently installed in the lab, to expand this imaging technique into the near-IR and combine it with label-free stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) and two-photon excitation (TPE) imaging. As a lead application for this development, we will image surface proteins of pneumococci at molecular resolution, correlated to the morphology and chemical environment (SRS/TPE) of the bacteria, to understand their role in disease. This highly interdisciplinary project is performed in close collaboration with partners in Sweden (Karolinska), Germany (Abberior Instruments, Inst Nanophotonics, APE) and Switzerland (PI imaging), with good possibilities for research/exchange visits during the postdoc. Together with researchers and PhD students in the KTH research group (~10 persons), you will work on optimization of excitation and labeling schemes for MINFLUX, combine this with SRS and TPE imaging (with prototype instruments on place in the lab), and then demonstrate the combined use for bacterial imaging. We expect this work to lead to high-impact publications both on the methodological (bionanophotonics) and application (bacteriology) side.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdocs in Self-learning Systems for Automated Cybersecurity
The research involves mathematical and algorithmic modeling and analysis, as well as system design, implementation, and experimentation. The research follows an approach where cyberattacks and response actions on an IT infrastructure are modeled as a game between an attacker and a defender and where strategies of attackers and defenders co-evolve through self-play. The game model is based on attack graphs and system architecture models. Reinforcement learning techniques are studied to approximate optimal control strategies. In addition to analytical modeling and analysis, a testbed and a simulation environment is available and further developed for experimentation, training, and evaluation of control strategies. Cyber ranges hosting realistic IT infrastructure environments are also available. The successful candidate will join a group of researchers that work on topics related to this project.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Post-doctorate in statistical methods for risk analysis and safety validation of autonomous vehicles
This postdoctoral project is part of the Entice project, which investigates how connectivity and collaboration with a smart digital infrastructure can improve this situation, especially in terms of AV and road safety. A main goal of the Entice project is to develop new risk analysis capabilities for autonomous vehicles based on data from various sources, including vehicle and road sensors, which includes both real-time analysis and offline estimation of residual risks. The position represents a unique opportunity to conduct research in the area of risk analysis and safety validation for automated vehicles – in close collaboration with Volvo Cars and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), which provides insights both into real industrial problems and development as well as academic state-of-the-art. The Entice project, with its connection to Volvo Cars and KTH, also offers excellent opportunities for both theoretical development and data collection as well as practical experiments through the testing facilities available at Volvo Cars and through the research center TECoSA.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Large-scale distributed machine learning
With the development of computing and communication technologies, and emerging data-driven applications, e.g., IoT based intelligent systems, social network analysis and vehicular networks, the volume of data for various learning systems increases explosively along with the number of involving computing nodes. Thus, large-scale distributed machine learning (e.g., federated learning, and alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM)) has been pervasive in our societies and industries. However, the practical performance of DML is often limited by various bottlenecks and is still far from theoretical upper limits. Thus, this project will develop efficient theories, algorithms and schemes to achieve reliable, secure and low-complexity large-scale DML. One key approach is to exploit network and channel coding schemes. Theoretical analysis will be performed using learning and communication tools (e.g., graph model, coding and information theory, optimization). The result will also be verified by simulations with true data. The project will be hosted by the Division of Information Science and Engineering, EECS school. The project is funded by Swedish Research Council (VR). You will have opportunities to work on cutting-edge information and data science and engineering.

About KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden – Official Website
KTH Royal Institute of Technology, abbreviated KTH, is a public research university in Stockholm, Sweden. KTH conducts research and education within engineering and technology, and is Sweden’s largest technical university. Currently, KTH consists of five schools with four campuses in and around Stockholm.
KTH was established in 1827 as Teknologiska Institutet (Institute of Technology), and had its roots in Mekaniska skolan (School of Mechanics) that was established in 1798 in Stockholm.
