Postdoc summary/title: Postdoc in Human Energy Expenditure in Transport Behaviour Modelling – DTU Management
Human energy expenditure is a fundamental characteristic of cycling – cyclists mustspend energy pedalling to make the bicycle move. Very little research has however been put into developing network and behavioural models that take the unique aspects of human energy expenditure into account. To address this gap, the research project will formulate a novel modelling paradigm that directly incorporates energy considerations into the modelling framework. This will involve the development of a network model to describe individual-specific energy usage and corresponding route choice models to capture cyclist behaviour. We will utilise these new insights in various ways to explore the potential to improve public health and increase active mobility.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in manufacturing the next generation of solid oxide electrolysis cells – DTU Energy
If you are planning to establish your career as a materials scientist with particular attention towards electrochemical energy conversion devices and looking for best possible platforms to fulfil your goal, DTU Energy is offering two postdoctoral positions in the fabrication of the next generation of solid oxide cells. The positions are a part of our broad project portfolio in the areas of development and upscaling of i) metal-supported solid oxide cell and ii) proton-conducting ceramic cell technology.
The removal of fossil fuels in the energy and transport sector is an important ambition, seconded by specific targets in several parts of the world. In this context, shares of electricity production from wind and solar are increasing. The fluctuating and interruptive nature of these sources requires means of storage and “difficult-to-electrify” sectors like shipping and aviation need green fuels. Solid oxide electrolysis (SOE) technologies owing to their high efficiencies can solve this challenge by converting excess electricity into storable compounds such as hydrogen and high energy density transportation fuels. Conventional SOE has reached a matureness allowing for demonstration and field-testing, based on electrolyte- or fuel-electrode-supported configurations.

The transition to a fossil free energy system is a tremendous engineering and societal challenge requiring improved technology in many areas and sectors. At DTU Energy, we pursue several technologies with the potential to contribute to this agenda. We develop high-temperature electrolysis cells based on oxides and strive to improve durability and reduce cost by improving materials, component design and manufacturing routes. We also pursue novel types of solid-state batteries involving oxide electrolytes and piezo-electric materials for application as actuators and in small-scale energy harvesting. These devices share a common feature: they all incorporate thin, dense layers of functional oxide materials. During manufacturing, controlling these layers’ composition, structure, and thickness is essential. Therefore, physical deposition techniques are particularly suitable for the purpose.
