Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Fellow Position in Mathematics Education
The project is entitled “Attributions of Mathematical Excellence in Teaching and Learning” (AMETL). The central hypothesis is that teachers’ beliefs attributing mathematical excellence to innate ability, cultural and social background, or personal characteristics widen the opportunity gap by resonating implicit bias and stereotype threat, and moreover, that beliefs attributing mathematical excellence to instructional opportunities narrow the gap because these beliefs amplify teacher expectations. The project comprises three studies focused on (1) item development to construct the AMETL scale; (2) validating the internal structure of the scale and determining relations with other variables; and (3) understanding relations between teachers’ scores on the AMETL scale with their classroom instruction. The overall research project is a collaboration between multiple partners at Indiana University, Indiana University Indianapolis, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and Georgia State University. A short description of this NSF project can be found at: https://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward?

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
We are seeking candidates for a postdoctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Jaeyeon Kim, an associate professor, in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM-Indianapolis) and IU Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Dr. Kim studies the molecular mechanisms underlying the development and progression of ovarian and breast cancer with genetically engineered mouse models and human specimens. The current research focus is to elucidate a conundrum surrounding high cancer risks and distinct cancer susceptibility among BRCA1 carriers. Despite the fact that every cell in their body has a harmful BRCA1 mutation, these women are predisposed particularly to ovarian and breast cancers. It remains a mystery. A seminal study (PNAS 2020; PMID: 33262282) from his lab points to the ovarian hormone progesterone as the culprit for BRCA1 carriers’ distinctive susceptibility to ovarian and breast cancer. Integrating this novel insight and unique Brca1 mouse models, his lab is seeking to decipher the molecular mechanisms underlying the progesterone regulation of ovarian and breast cancer development in BRCA1 carriers—with an emphasis on DNA damage/repair, cell-cycle checkpoint regulation, and immune modulation. This innovative, high-impact research will not only reveal a basic molecular mechanism of cancer susceptibility with BRCA1 mutations, but this knowledge will also offer an innovative strategy for the effective nonsurgical prevention and control of these formidable cancers wreaking havoc on women.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: A postdoctoral researcher position in quantum VUV and EUV light generation at Indiana University Bloomington
A postdoctoral fellow position is now available at the Department of Physics, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, U.S.A. The project aims to explore potential pathways to generate quantum entangled and/or squeezed short-wavelength light sources (wavelength 1-100 nm), including vacuum- and extreme-ultraviolet (VUV and EUV) light. The overarching goal is to test the feasibility of several potential methods, based on quantum optics, nonlinear optics, and ultrafast optics, to experimentally explore how to generate VUV and EUV light carrying nonclassical properties. The properties include single-photon or Fock states, entangled states (in photon numbers, polarizations, wavelengths, and delay times), amplitude/phase squeezed states, and/or bright squeezed vacuum states of light. This experimental research will involve developing, creating, and characterizing various classical and quantum light sources, including the technologies used for near-infrared, visible, and ultraviolet, to VUV/EUV light.
