(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoc position in Food Science – Marine collagens

Food value chains generally suffer from inefficiency due to the large amount of side streams generated across the chains. The seafood industry, in particular, faces this challenge, where up to 70% of the harvested aquatic biomass typically leaves the value chain as side streams for feeding or is wasted. Biorefining these side streams into multiple higher-value ingredients for food and health-related applications can substantially increase the sustainability of our seafood value chains. A newly established national multi-actor project funded by FORMAS, called MARIFINE, aims to develop innovative biorefinery platforms for the valorization of these aquatic side streams.

We are offering a two-year postdoctoral position to an ambitious researcher interested in working on biorefining side streams from the project with a special focus on the collagen fraction and scaling up the developed technologies. The postdoctoral researcher will work at the Division of Food and Nutrition Science, in close collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including AquaFood AB and RISE.

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral fellow in optical transport network security

Optical communication network infrastructure forms the backbone of today’s information society, but is vulnerable to various attacks that jeopardize secure operation of upper layer network services. This research project, funded by the European Commission, aims at developing an encompassing 5G cybersecurity toolbox. The role of the Chalmers team in the project is to address the transport optical network segment security challenges. Specifically, we will develop processes for security assurance of transport network control and management, and investigate the concrete vulnerabilities of SDN controlled network components in virtualized scenarios. We will then focus on developing tools for risk mitigation in 5G networks associated with the control and management of the network and compute infrastructure. For the control of the network infrastructure using SDN, emphasis will be given on identifying optimal solutions that prevent malicious attacks or unauthorized access to the network. Attention will be put on development of intelligent solutions based on AI/ML to continuously monitor the status of the SDN components, and intelligent policy control mechanisms preventing the installation of rules that may cause instabilities. Finally, we will develop mitigating measures supporting 5G Lifecycle Management through network slicing and virtual network function placement.

(13) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Position in Computational Catalysis

Hydrogen is expected to be an energy carrier in a future sustainable energy system that does not rely on fossil energy sources. One issue using hydrogen is, however, transportation and storage. The present technologies for storage and transportation are mainly based on liquid compressed hydrogen, which require very high pressures or very low temperatures. Technologies with Liquid Organic Hydrogen Carriers (LOHC) offer an alternative to compressed hydrogen by storing hydrogen in organic molecules. Hydrogen is in the LOHC technology stored in chemical bonds in a liquid carrier, which allow the usage of already existing infrastructure for conventional liquid fuels. The LOHC technology is based on catalytic hydrogenation and dehydrogenation steps using suitable storage molecules. The present project will explore potential catalysts for the hydrogenation and dehydrogenation steps and develop first-principles kinetic models for the reactions. The work will be performed at the division of Chemical Physics and the Competence Centre for Catalysis.

Top 16 Tools for Researchers in 2022

(17) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in physics-informed ML / AI

The research topic is in Chemical Process Engineering. One crucial challenge is to develop and design novel processes for the manufacturing of chemicals, materials and fuels from renewable sources. Many other important sustainability-related needs include recycling, process intensification, more energy efficient processes, etc. In all these applications, there will be a number of different reactors and separation equipment, many of them quite different compared to the present process industry. Consequently, fundamental understanding of unit operations, such as separation (mixing, distillation, drying, filtration, etc) and mass/heat transfer, is important.

This calls for innovative experimentation on the laboratory scale combined with mathematical modeling. We aim to forge new alliances and open up new collaborations to address current and forthcoming applications of relevance to society and industry. In this process, there is also a need to maintain a proper balance between fundamental and applied research within the area. Such a continued strategic development of Chemical Process Engineering research at Chalmers has the potential to significantly contribute to the realization our overall vision for a sustainable future.

(18) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position, ML-assisted design of optomechanical devices

Optomechanics is a vibrant research field spanning multiple disciplines within physics. Reaching the deep quantum regime imposes strict requirements on the mechanical and optical performance of mechanical resonators. These micrometer-sized devices are now routinely fabricated in the Chalmers cleanroom, but the challenge remains to achieve resonator designs with ultra-low optical loss while retaining strong optomechanical coupling and good mechanical properties. Recent advances towards optimized nano-optical devices have drawn on inverse design methods using machine learning.

In this postdoctoral project, the focus will be on implementing machine learning methods for designing and optimizing the optical and optomechanical performance while maintaining favourable mechanical properties. Thus, the initial stage of this project is focused on the design of nano-optic resonators. The research will be carried out in close proximity to researchers in the division working on inverse design of nanomechanical devices. The second stage of the project aims to integrate the two approaches into a single framework.

As a postdoctoral research associate you will be embedded in the joint project and your designs will be fabricated and tested by experimental groups at Chalmers. You will be part of the Condensed Matter and Materials Theory division, a research group tackling questions ranging from nanomechanics to optics and quantum physics. Chalmers University of Technology is a leading research institution in nanoscience and hosts one of Europe’s largest and most well equipped clean rooms dedicated to nanofabrication, as well as state-of-the-art high-performance computing equipment.
