(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc BenignSynthesis Project

This position is part of the NWO Dutch Research Agenda (NWA) BenignSynthesis project. Recently, the EU introduced the concept of Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) for chemical substances, processes and products. SSbD is a crucial element in accomplishing sustainable development goals and integrates earlier work on Safe-by-Design, sustainable development assessment and circular economy.

The NWO-NWA Phase II BenignSynthesis project will contribute to this international quest by building on the three projects that were granted in Phase I of the NWA Safe-by-Design call. These three projects span the design of chemicals, materials, and products for making them safe, sustainable and circular during their entire life cycle. The Phase II BenignSynthesis project will enable cooperation, synthesis and leverage to the knowledge and tools developed by the Phase I projects and will investigate the prospects and limitations of an integrated SSbD methodology. BenignSynthesis will further generalize, integrate, evaluate and where feasible simplify the methods developed, with the aim to come to an overarching Safe, Sustainable & Circular-by-Design approach for the Chemicals-Materials-Product continuum in which the life cycle of design, production, consumption and waste is accounted for.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Individual Participant Data Meta-Analysis of Parenting Support Program Effects

This 19-month postdoc project, funded by a ZonMw grant, will be conducted in the Research Institute of Child Development and Education at the University of Amsterdam. The aim of the research will be to better understand the most effective ways to reduce violence against children and enhance parent and child well-being. To achieve this understanding, we will use aggregate (i.e., trial) level meta-analysis and individual participant data meta-analysis from randomized trials of parenting support programs.

The Postdoc will update two existing databases with currently more than 300 randomized trials and data from more than 6,000 individual families. This will include data extraction for the purpose of aggregate-level meta-analysis and data harmonization for the purpose of individual participant data meta-analysis. In addition, they will lead data analysis and scientific article writing on research questions of their interest within the project aims, using either (or both) aggregate-level and individual participant data meta-analysis. Possibilities of a teaching appointment for an additional 0.2 FTE (7.6 hours per week) can be discussed.

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Nanophotonics with 2D Quantum Materials

Are you a highly motivated physicist interested in a postdoctoral research position at the intersection between nanophotonics and 2D material science? The 2D Nanophotonics group within the Institute of Physics has an open position for the project “Excitonic 2D metasurfaces for active multifunctional flat optics”. The aim is to employ exciton resonances in monolayer 2D semiconductors to actively tune the optical response of metasurfaces.

Optical metasurfaces offer ultra-flat and compact alternatives to conventional bulky optical elements like mirrors, lenses, and prisms. By accurate engineering of the resonant light-matter interaction of arrays of nanostructures, light can be scattered in a controlled fashion to perform an optical function. While such optical metasurfaces are nowadays highly efficient and well established, their optical function is typically static.

In this (3 year-) project you will study the strong light-matter interactions of stable excitons in monolayer 2D semiconductor material and couple these materials to resonant metasurfaces. Using their combination, you will investigate the unique properties of these 2D quantum materials and use them to develop multifunctional and atomically thin optical elements with an electrically tunable optical function. You will be joining an exciting team of researchers with a strong emphasis on collaboration. We expect you to be an active member of the research group, and a driving force in this project
