(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoc on EV-mediated CRISPR-Cas9 delivery

Over the last decade, CRISPR/Cas9-based techniques have been developed for various genomic engineering strategies in eukaryotic cells. Using single guide RNAs (sgRNA) containing specific targeting sequences, Cas9 can target precise genomic locations. Thus, CRISPR/Cas9-based techniques are of substantial interest for the development of novel therapies to treat genetic diseases. Moreover, as they can be targeted to precise genomic targets with high specificity, they have considerable therapeutic potential for currently “un-druggable” pathologies. Unfortunately, one of the major hurdles in the development of CRISPR/Cas9-based therapies is the intracellular delivery of Cas9-sgRNA complexes. Cas9-sgRNA complexes are unable to cross the cell membrane due to their large size, as well as their negative charge. Moreover, Cas9-sgRNA complexes need to be shielded from opsonization and degradation in circulation, do to their immunogenicity. Your project will focus on the development of extracellular vesicle (EV)-mediated strategies for CRISPR/Cas9 delivery to address these challenges.

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoc Position: Molecular Mechanisms of Protein Biogenesis

We are working at the interface of biochemistry, molecular biology and biophysics to follow the journey of nascent proteins toward their functional structures as they emerge from the ribosome. These mechanistic studies pave the way for targeted interventions against protein misfolding and perturbed protein homeostasis which are important for a number of aging-related diseases, including neurodegeneration, and several forms of cancer.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc: Impact Exposome on Aging with Multimorbidity & FAIRification of Data

You’ll be conducting epidemiological analyses using cohort studies and exposome data (eg. geospatial and metabolomics data). At the same time, you will contribute to making the data, resources, and methods you work with Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable. You will work in a multi-disciplinary team that consists of Exposome researchers, data architects, data stewards, and IT specialists. Your position will be nested within two large-scale European projects: STAGE

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in User-Oriented Health and Welfare Technologies

UPSCALE uses a novel combination of scientific methods and integrated frameworks to advance state-of-the-art knowledge of determinants that influence the emergence, development and future of HWT use in health and care. These determinants show in the interplay between human actors and social, institutional and technological structures. UPSCALE applies this knowledge to provide policy recommendations to enhance a smooth socio-technical transition and HWT’s contribution towards building the health and care of the future, addressing challenges and advancing dimensions such as equity, effectiveness and accessibility of services.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Position in the Science of Hybrid Intelligence

You will work on a new project on Hybrid Intelligence, which is funded by a 10-year Gravitation Grant from the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. It brings together many prominent AI researchers in the Netherlands. Hybrid Intelligence (HI) is the combination of human and machine intelligence, expanding human intellect instead of replacing it. HI takes human expertise and intentionality into account when making meaningful decisions and performing appropriate actions, together with ethical, legal and societal values. The vision of the project is to design Hybrid Intelligent systems, an approach to Artificial Intelligence that puts humans at the center, changing the course of the ongoing AI revolution.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in modelling and understanding the reading process in a digital age

As postdoc you are a member the department of Information and Computing Sciences as well as of the consortium for Becoming literate in a Digital Age. You will work with two other postdocs that aim at developing a conceptual model of reading and reading education and a framework for didactic and pedagogic methods that effectively support students’ reading and reading processes. You will support the development of their model and methods by investigating which and how AI & Data Science techniques can be employed to analyse datasets in order to find relevant structures and patterns to underpin their model and methods. You may also advise them on gathering, preparing, and organising new data for the further development of their models and methods, and to inform them whether their model and teaching methods can be operationalized and tested by data. If possible, you can help them to formulate and evaluate testable hypotheses on possible teaching methods.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc Position: Glacier lake-ice dynamics in the Himalaya

You will play a central role in our research on Himalayan glaciers, with a specific focus on lake-terminating glaciers. You will use a state-of-the-art modelling, remote sensing, and field measurements to investigate calving behaviour of lake-terminating glaciers and additional glacial mass loss attributed to the formation of proglacial lakes. You will assist in a field campaign to the Himalayas, where you will be gathering essential data on glacier thickness, surface properties, and lake bathymetry, providing vital ground-truthing for the model. Utilising the UFEMISM ice sheet model, you will simulate a chosen lake-terminating glacier in the Himalayas and validate the outcome using in-situ and remote sensing data. The position offers you a close collaboration with colleagues from the Institute for Marine and Atmospheric research Utrecht (IMAU) and various other international groups.

(08) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc on the Politics of EU Sustainable Agricultural and Food Policies

European food systems are highly productive but also face substantial sustainability challenges, including ongoing biodiversity loss, water pollution, and the emission of greenhouse gases. The European Commission has therefore high ambitions regarding food system transformation towards sustainability, as outlined in for instance the Farm to Fork strategy. However, lobby and farmer protests have contributed to a watering down of ambitions. At the same time, it appears to be very hard to increase sustainability objectives in the EU Common Agricultural Policy, which, because of its high budget, has a strong influence on the agricultural sector. And whereas the agricultural sector has a substantial impact on water quality, the implementation of mitigating measures by farmers is largely voluntary under the EU Water Framework Directive.
