In the Vehicle Safety Division at the Department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences we apply human factors and engineering to better understand the safety problem, find solutions, and assess the impact of both problems and solutions on safety. Specifically, within the research area of road user modelling, we develop computational model that may support intelligent applications and automated driving. Within the micromobility group, the research activities range from computational modeling of rider and driver behavior to how to integrate such models into intelligent and communication systems. This post-doc position will focus on modelling of cyclists and e-scooterist behaviour to support active safety applications.

Our mission is to understand why crashes happen and how they can be prevented, with a special focus on technological solutions. Our research is at the border between human factors and engineering and leverages a large network of transport stakeholders, including road authorities (e.g., Trafikverket), industry (e.g., Bosch), insurance agencies (e.g., Folksam), and municipalities (e.g., Göteborg Stad).

This project will be an important building block in the pursuit of a more sustainable aviation. The project will generate insights into what the impacts of electric aviation are and how they can be reduced. The research departs from prospective life cycle assessment, applying upscaling approaches and prospective databases. The work is expected to result in concrete assessments and design recommendations that are relevant to decision-makers and industry actors. One study will focus on near-commercial hybrid-electric aircraft developed by a collaborating company. The other study will investigate the more long-term potential of electric aviation for the future based on scenarios for battery development. The project builds on previous research and ongoing collaborations, providing a strong foundation for contributing to the electric aviation and prospective life cycle assessment fields.

At the Vehicle Safety Division in the Department of Mechanics and Maritime Sciences, the research focuses on understanding and improving the safety of road users applying engineering and human factors methods. Specifically within injury prevention research, we work from the scales microscopic to the whole human to understand and model the human body’s response to external loading. The group is well known in its field for the development of human body models (SAFER HBM, VIVA+).

In this project, you will work with VIVA+ Open Source Models, being involved in its development and validation with a particular focus on responses relevant to vulnerable road users (pedestrian, cyclists, micromobility)

The aim of the project is to develop spin sensors that use optomechanical readout of ultrahigh-Q nanomechanical resonators. Strained nanomechanical resonators have reached state-of-the-art force sensitivities, but are composed of dielectric materials. We now seek to functionalize these resonators with nanomagnets for spin sensing and combine this with on-chip optical readout. These systems can be applied for biosensing and material characterization. The Hybrid Quantum Systems Laboratory is a new laboratory at Chalmers. We offer a newly renovated lab space and a state-of-the-art nanofabrication facility.

The aim of the project is to develop a hybrid quantum system capable of generating macroscopic quantum states of motion. To achieve this, we will couple a single atom in an optical tweezer to a mecanical oscillator. On the way to this goal, we will advance the state-of-the-art in nanomechanics, optomechanics and cavity quantum electrodynamics. This is a highly multidisciplinary project involving nanofabrication, optomechanics and experimental atomic physics. The Hybrid Quantum Systems Laboratory is a new laboratory at Chalmers. The position is at the Vehicle Safety Division with extensive collaboration with the Systems and Control Division, and will be in close cooperation with the Mathematical Sciences, and Computer Science and Engineering departments.

In the Vehicle Safety Division we perform research on both human factors and engineering to better understand the safety problem, find solutions, and assess the impact of both problems and solutions on safety. Specifically, within the research area of virtual safety assessment, we work on methodological aspects of prospective (predictive) traffic safety assessment of technologies and driver behavior. This post-doc position will focus on improving efficiency and accuracy of these virtual safety assessments. 

In the Systems and Control Division, department of Electrical Engineering, we are working on modeling and numerical optimization of problems in the areas of robotics, electromobility and autonomous driving. Also in this context, the post-doc focus is on efficient simulations.

The project ‘FlowSense: High-Resolution Empirical Traffic Flow Data for Research and Decision Making’ aims to produce empirical data of vehicle and pedestrian flows with high spatial and temporal resolution and extensive coverage, using reproducible methods, based on mobile phone GPS location data. Empirical data on traffic flows are instrumental for research and to support decision-making in diverse domains, including transport planning, urban logistics, urban mobility, urban design and planning. However, these data are simply non-existent or do not provide the necessary spatial-temporal coverage or resolution. The result of the project will report the intensity of traffic flows at the road link level, at different times, covering entire metropolitan areas in Sweden and abroad. The application of the data will be demonstrated in relevant transport and urban planning use cases, e.g. congestion, traffic safety, pedestrian exposure to noise, usage of public space. The database and the applications will support data driven decision-making in planning practice, overcoming existing limitations of traffic flow data.

In the project, a novel and operational energy-based description of multimodal, urban logistics system is proposed. This energy based quantitative framework enables us to systematically and naturally target sustainability goals. In ELaaS, we intend to minimize the overall energy usage from consolidation centers to the customers’ doors. This approach gives ground to i) contrast modular solutions ii) quantify logistic solutions by energy footprints, iii) enhance social responsibility at different levels, and iv) couple logistics systems to power grid.

The following goals are formulated to reach within which the postdoc associate will mostly be involved in G3 and G4.
G1) Define logistics flows via models and mode shifts via scenario design method from authorities.
G2) Quantify the use of energy in logistics flows and devise energy optimal delivery solutions. Dynamically schedule micro platforms and charging-parking allocations.
G3) Analyze spatio-temporal energy usage of urban logistics systems. Perform sensitivity analysis under power grid interruption. Scalability analysis of E-Laas algorithms.
G4) Quantify demand for freight and analyze the customer behaviour change required to run E-Laas.

At the Department of Electrical Engineering, we conduct internationally renowned research spanning many fields and including information and communication theory, machine learning, and signal processing. We offer a dynamic, international research environment with about 150 employees from more than 20 countries, and an extensive national and international collaboration networks that encompasses both other academic partners and industry.

This project focus on the development of 2D materials based composites for example with polymer and other sensing materials to fabricate highly sensitive pressure sensors. Gas sensor can be also considered. You will design, synthesize and characterize the 2D materials based sensing materials. You are expect to have good hand on skill to fabricate stable and high performance pressure sensor using different equipment. The work has an experimental focus, and you will closely collaborate with simulation and modeling partners from academia and industrials. Being part of this collaborative project, you will be involved in a multidisciplinary environment and working with international researchers.

We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to study Arctic climate change and carbon cycle dynamics. The overarching objective is to advance our understanding of recent regional-scale changes in the Arctic carbon cycle, such as Arctic greening and browning, and to explore linkages with other Arctic climate phenomena including Arctic amplification and wetting. There will be considerable freedom to define the specific research questions and approaches in collaboration with the Principal Investigator (PI).

The overall goal with this project is to perform research that can aid the development of future bio-refineries that produces chemicals and fuels based on bio-oils and waste biomass. Catalytic hydrodeoxygenation, which will be the focus of this project, is a very strong technique that can be used to produce renewable chemicals and fuels. The objective of the project is to develop novel catalysts for the process as well as examined process conditions and catalyst deactivation.

The catalyst will be tested in high hydrogen pressure reactors and the gas, liquid will be analysed with GC, GCxGC/MS and NMR. The solids will be characterized with elemental analysis, NMR, Maldi, etc. The catalysts will be throughly characterized using for example XRD, BET, SEM, TEM, TPR, TPD, DRIFT and XPS.

We are looking for a postdoc to develop statistical methods for source tracking of dioxins in a project funded by the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency (TRACED). Current knowledge of dioxin pollution sources is limited and existing source tracking tools require niche data management skills. The aim of the project is to develop new statistical methodology based on modeling of the composition of the contaminants (fingerprint analysis). The methodology will also be applied in two case studies (Lake Vättern and the Bothnian Sea) to explore, evaluate and challenge the current understanding of primary dioxin sources. The work will lead to a broad group of specialists being able to use the new source tracking tool. The project is interdisciplinary and you will work close to a project team that includes expertise in environmental chemistry, statistics and programming. The position is located in the research group led by Professor Erik Kristiansson.

We welcome applications for a postdoctoral research position in nonequilibrium statistical physics and condensed matter theory within the research group led by Matthias Geilhufe at Chalmers University of Technology. Our group primarily focuses on quantum materials, exploring aspects such as the symmetry and topology of ordered phases of matter, non-equilibrium dynamics, and stochastic processes in materials. The initial appointment for this position is for a duration of two years, with an option for extension to a third year. The starting date is as soon as possible.

The impact of robotic rehabilitation goes beyond individual lives. Robots empower therapists to see more patients, expanding therapy options to geographically remote areas and increasing access to care. These technologies personalize treatment plans based on individual needs and progress, maximizing the effectiveness of each session. Furthermore, the engaging and interactive nature of robot-assisted physiotherapy fosters patient engagement and adherence to therapy programs, improving motivation and overall outcomes. Finally, robots provide crucial objective data, offering real-time feedback and collecting valuable data that allows therapists to track progress and adjust treatment plans.

The division of Food and Nutrition Science (FNS) is one of four research divisions at LIFE. FNS addresses major societal challenges related to sustainable food production, nutrition and health. We conduct fundamental and applied research, innovation, education and dissemination in Food and Nutrition Science with the aim to provide new knowledge and solutions that pave the way for a sustainable planet and healthy humans. Research topics span from food chemistry and food technology to molecular and data- driven nutrition (Precision Nutrition). In Food Science, we focus primarily on marine and plant-based food systems for which we develop tools and processes to promote high food quality, minimize losses throughout the value chain and allow nutrient recovery from alternative biomasses. In nutrition, we focus on human observational and intervention studies as well as cell- based model studies and apply advanced data-driven approaches and state of the art biochemical and OMICs technologies to understand and predict the role of foods, dietary components and dietary patterns in human health. The research is also related to global food security topics in an international context.

The three positions concern:

Position 1: Emission Cuts in Building and Construction

– Analysis of emission reduction opportunities within the value chains of the building and construction sector.

– Development of material flow analysis techniques specific to this industry.

 
Position 2: Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) Technologies (as part of an EU funded project)

– Investigation of technologies and measures for achieving negative carbon dioxide emissions and associated policies.

– Assessment of supporting infrastructure requirements for Bioenergy Carbon Capture and Storage (bio-CCS) and Direct Air Capture (DAC).

 
Position 3: Techno-Economic Energy Systems Modeling

– Analyze technologies and policies that can realistically expand Sweden’s low-carbon electricity supply while ensuring economic competitiveness.

– Further development of existing mathematical models to include socio-technical and institutional drivers and barriers.

These positions will be part of a collaborative team comprising senior researchers, postdocs, and PhD students. Together, we aim to identify sustainable pathways for our energy future. The position will be hosted by the Quantum Technology Laboratory (QTL) within the Department of Microtechnology and Nanoscience at Chalmers University of Technology. The researcher will contribute to the European OpenSuperQPlus project by developing software applications in conjunction with the WACQT team and the collaborators at the Chalmers Next Labs Testbed, our partners in developing the software infrastructure to operate the QPU called ‘QAL9000’.

OpenSuperQPlus brings together the quantum engineering and technology expertise of multiple universities, RTOs, and SMEs with the highest expertise and strongest track record in Europe and Associated Countries. The core mission is to scale superconducting quantum chip technology to 1000 qubits by 2029. Another goal of the collaboration is to develop a European community focused on scalable, high-performance quantum computing platforms to enhance capabilities in this sector. The project anticipates special use cases in quantum simulation for the chemical industry, materials science, optimization problems, and machine learning.

At WACQT, there is an ongoing development of a cloud-based quantum computing software stack, enabling remote control of superconducting qubits. This stack is a complex and modular system that requires high availability and reliability. A prototype of the full software stack is already in place, and the primary responsibility of the researcher will be to add more functionality to it by closely collaborating with researchers at WAQCT and partners in the OpenSuperQPlus project. Other commitments to OpenSuperQplus include collaborating with partner institutes; the postdoc will be expected to contribute to such activities.

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to our pioneering research focused on resilient future housing design, exploring new buildings and the transformation of existing structures. Collaborating with a team of senior researchers, another post-doc, and doctoral students, you will contribute to the development and consolidation of the research area known as Architecture, Building & Society. This interdisciplinary field merges architectural design and sociology, emphasizing the interaction between spatial configuration, user experience, and social dynamics through the perspectives of sustainability, resource efficiency, and circular societies.

As mobile communication systems tend to have higher frequencies, they start to behave like radar. This will bring the ability for 6G systems to localize and track people and objects with a high degree of accuracy. As we will increasingly rely on such services, there are increasing risks in terms of integrity, privacy and, security. Within this research project, you will work on a framework for robustness, security, and privacy for localization and sensing. This position is part of several ongoing projects on 5G and Beyond 5G localization in which you will gain not only theoretical knowledge but also industry contacts. In this Postdoc position, your work will contribute to developing the delignification process of lignocellulose­based material. You will implement a new instrument (an electron paramagnetic resonance EPR) as a characterisation tool of radicals, starting with lignin radicals in cellulose-rich fibrers. This position is linked to two large centres WWSC (Wallenberg Wood Science Center), which focuses on developing new materials from wood, and another centre called FibRe, which focuses on developing thermoplastic lignocellulose-based. The primary focus is on the mechanism behind the delignification process of lignocellulose-based materials. There are several established delignification process, like the Kraft process, but we will mainly use the ionoSolv process. It is well known that radicals are formed during the delignification process. One way to study such radicals is by using electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) technique, a technique and methodology we at Chalmers need to adopt to measure lignin radicals. The connection to WWSC, is constituted of many projects with interest in studying the formation of radicals, like the formation of radicals during the manufacturing of lignin-based products, polymerisation of bio-based components or enzymatic treatment of biomass.
