Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: PostDoc position: Quantum experiments with levitated particles
Magnetic levitation of superconducting microparticles is a platform that greatly decouples the center-of-mass motion of a levitated mechanical resonator from its environment. This platform will enable ultra-sensitive force and acceleration sensors, as well as quantum experiments with macroscopic objects of 10^13 atomic mass units. The goal of the project is to generate quantum states in the center-of-mass motion of levitated microparticles. We will make this possible by merging magnetic levitation of superconducting microparticles with superconducting quantum circuits. Coupling these two platforms will allow us to reach quantum control over the motion of the levitated particles.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc positions in giant atoms for quantum simulation or quantum communication
In quantum optics, it is common to assume that atoms can be approximated as point-like compared to the wavelength of the light they interact with. It is only in the past few years that experiments (at Chalmers, MIT, and other places), with artificial atoms built from superconducting circuits, have shown that this assumption can be violated. These artificial atoms can couple to an electromagnetic field at several points, which can be wavelengths apart. The study of giant atoms and the interference effects that arise from their coupling points is still in its infancy, but it is attracting increasing attention. In this project, we aim to go from fundamental research towards useful applications of giant atoms in emerging quantum technology.
The project is carried out in the stimulating research environment of the Wallenberg Centre for Quantum Technology (WACQT), a 12-year, billion-SEK initiative started in 2018 with the purpose of advancing Swedish academia and industry to the forefront of quantum technology, and to build a Swedish quantum computer.
The WACQT team at Chalmers currently has about 80 members (faculty, permanent research staff, postdoctoral researchers, PhD students, and undergraduate students) and is expanding. WACQT is committed to promoting career development, diversity, and gender equality through networking and supporting activities.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Sustainable Energy Systems for Maritime Infrastructure
We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at the Chalmers University of Technology as part of the newly funded POTENT project (Ports as Energy Transition Hubs). This project aims to revolutionize European maritime ports by leveraging them as dynamic energy hubs. As a Postdoctoral Researcher, you will conduct advanced research on grid impact studies for zero-emission refueling and assess infrastructure needs for hydrogen and e-fuel supply chains. You will also analyze the interdependence of energy systems to enhance resilience in maritime terminals. Additionally, the role can include a teaching component up to 20%, providing opportunities for academic development.
Maritime ports are critical assets with untapped potential to contribute to Europe’s clean energy transition and independence. Due to the role of ports in countries and worldwide economies, these can set forward important economic drivers for regional development and social cohesion. While changing the emissions produced inside the port and ships are certainly needed, ports can also act as catalysts for energy generation and distribution for the rest of the community, becoming a positive agent in decarbonization across Europe. POTENT aims to provide practical solutions for ports and related stakeholders to transition towards clean energy. Thus, the project will develop scalable model solutions that can be applied to various port ecosystem. The focus on cooperation for knowledge generation (through the Living Labs Networks) will facilitate the scaling up of successful solutions across Europe. Also, the development of new business models within port ecosystems will contribute to the feasibility of the proposed solutions.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral positions in Quantum Nanophotonics
There is no reliable path to a sustainable growth in society’s capability to compute and connect. A key issue is the excessive energy loss caused by communication. In classical datacenters and computers, this energy loss leads to heating and greenhouse gas emissions. In emerging quantum processors, the energy loss prevents scaling up small quantum devices into more powerful systems. We are developing new hardware to address this. Read more on our webpage and in this popular science article.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc position in Development of High burn up structure SIMFuel Analogues
The primary objective of this project is to develop a novel process for producing plutonium-bearing UO₂ SIMFuel pellets. This process will focus on controlling the metal content, metal distribution, and microstructure of the pellets to better simulate real-world conditions.
Spent nuclear fuel contains a complex mixture of chemical elements and microstructural characteristics. To study the impact of individual elements on fuel behavior, simplified fuel analogs, known as SIMFuels, are often employed. These analogs allow for detailed research without the significant challenges posed by handling real irradiated fuel.
In this project, homogeneous U-Pu oxide fuel will be fabricated and thoroughly characterized. The aim is to produce nanometric (U,Pu)O₂ solid solution particles, which will be sintered into pellets with an ultra-fine grain size to mimic high burn-up structure zones found in spent nuclear fuel. This work will contribute to advancing the understanding of microstructural features in spent fuel, which have yet to be accurately reproduced in simulated systems.
This position is funded by the Swedish Radiation Protection Authority and will be carried out within the Nuclear Chemistry Group at the Division of Energy and Materials, Chalmers University of Technology.

About Chalmers University of Technology, Gothenburg, Sweden –Official Website
Chalmers University of Technology is a Swedish university located in Gothenburg that focuses on research and education in technology, natural sciences, architecture, mathematics, maritime and other management areas.
The university was founded in 1829 following a donation by William Chalmers, a director of the Swedish East India Company. He donated part of his fortune for the establishment of an “industrial school”. Chalmers was run as a private institution until 1937, when the institute became a state-owned university. In 1994, the school was incorporated as an aktiebolag under the control of the Swedish Government, the faculty and the Student Union. Chalmers is one of only three universities in Sweden which are named after a person, the other two being Karolinska Institutet and Linnaeus University.
