(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Post-doctoral position in Combustion Physics and Chemistry

At the Division of Combustion Physics a postdoc is now recruited for the project supported by the VR (Vetenskapsrådet).

The primary goal of this project is to investigate the detailed chemistry of combustion of different sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) suggested for replacing fossil fuels focusing on the formation and abatement of pollutants that could potentially be formed. The motivation for this is the development of a long-term solution for sustainable and environmentally friendly aviation. The key research question of the present project is the impact of super adiabatic phenomena on formation of different pollutants. Overall planning is arranged around several commercially approved SAF, and surrogate mixtures reproducing their physical characteristics. The work program includes experimental research, development of detailed kinetic models and reduced models suitable for CFD modelling.

Experiments are performed preferably on flat flame burners, which facilitate comparison with the modeling. The study of any system to be investigated starts with detailed analysis of available experiments and existing kinetic models from the literature.  The problem is then formulated with selection of appropriate diagnostic techniques available at the Division of Combustion Physics, Lund University. Dedicated experiments are then performed and compared with existing or new models. When required, additional experiments are set up to address possible uncertainties or doubts.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Researcher within the project At the End of the World

The position holder is expected to work within the framework of the research project “At the End of the World: A Transdisciplinary Exploration of Apocalyptic Ideas in the Past and Present” (EOTW). This project investigates apocalypticism as a transhistorical complex of images and symbols that, even in a secularized form, shapes our cultural sphere. Among other aspects, it examines how apocalyptic tropes influence historiography, legal-political thought, and populist rhetoric, as well as how they impact discourse on AI, climate threats, and migration.

Candidates are expected to apply for the position with a proposal for a sub-project that clearly relates to the program’s central themes and research questions (a detailed description of the program can be obtained by contacting the program secretary, Aaron Goldman at [email protected] ).

The sub-project should focus on the early history of apocalypticism (from antiquity to the late Middle Ages) while also relating to the apocalyptic worldview as a transhistorical complex of images, texts, and symbols. In line with the program’s scope, the proposed sub-project should focus on the biblical apocalyptic heritage, encompassing both Jewish and Christian traditions throughout history.

For this position, familiarity with the Jewish reception of biblical apocalyptic heritage is especially welcome, as well as knowledge of the relationship between the two traditions, for example, how Christian apocalypticism has represented Jews and Judaism and vice versa. Although the program is limited to the biblical heritage, comparative perspectives on Islamic apocalypticism are also encouraged, including questions on how Muslims and Islam have been represented in Christian and Jewish apocalypticism.
