The Post-Doctoral Fellow with the Hohl Research Group in the UBC Department of Emergency Medicine will conduct real-world drug safety and surveillance research  using new adverse drug event data being generated by a technological intervention designed to improve clinical communication of patients’ adverse drug events. The incumbent may also have the opportunity to participate in drug safety and effectiveness evaluation of treatments used for opioid poisoning in emergency departments using data derived from the Canadian Emergency Department Research Network.

The successful applicant will join a thriving adverse drug event research group with a long history of work on this topic. The research group has developed a novel software application called ActionADE that supports the documentation and communication of adverse drug events to providers in other health sectors. The app also supports new federal adverse drug reaction reporting requirements. The incumbent will have primary responsibility to co-design and lead the analysis for multiple pharmacoepidemiology projects. They will lead studies using ActionADE data generated as a by-product of safer clinical care to help develop a new approach for post-market drug safety surveillance. The incumbent will apply appropriate pharmacoepidemiology methods to develop a timely robust drug safety sentinel surveillance system.

A two-year postdoctoral research position is available starting April 1, 2025 in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems at the University of British Columbia under the co-supervision of Drs. Simone D. Castellarin and Thorsten Knipfer, and will be affiliated to the Applied Biology program. The Faculty of Land and Food System is located in the vibrant and beautiful city of Vancouver (BC, Canada). The expected salary range is $60,000 – $65,000 CAD.

The postdoctoral fellow will make a vital contribution to the funded project entitled: PRIMA – Precision irrigation management for sustainable blueberry production. The project aims to develop irrigation practices that allow water savings, reduce GHG emissions, and maximize fruit yield and quality by utilizing state-of-the art sensor technology. The project will be led by a team of experts in horticulture (Dr. Simone D. Castellarin), plant water relations (Dr. Thorsten Knipfer), and soil science (Dr. Sean Smukler) at UBC, and allow new collaborations with the BC blueberry growers.

Specific research activities include i) monitoring of climate and plant evapotranspiration on field sites, ii) integrating atmospheric monitoring with soil physical properties, iii) collecting plant physiological measurements to ground truth remote sensing data, iv) developing and managing field irrigation treatments, v) conducting assessments of yield and berry quality; vi) coordinating field experiments with blueberry growers and other scientists involved in the project; and vii) disseminating results and knowledge generated to the academic and growers community.

Professor Heidi Tworek and the Centre for the Study of Democratic Institutions (CSDI) invite applications from highly qualified candidates for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position. As part of their fellowship, the individual would contribute to a multi-year research project on online health communication. The research project has an emphasis on understanding and addressing abuse, disinformation, and polarization in online discussions of vaccine development and safety, pandemic public health measures, and related topics. The School of Biomedical Engineering (SBME) at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Vancouver, BC, Canada invites applications for Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions to work on a team-based project spanning pluripotent stem cells, lung differentiation, and genomics in the de Boer (https://deboer.bme.ubc.ca/) and Shakiba (https://shakiba.bme.ubc.ca/) labs.

The project is in collaboration with United Therapeutics, an industry partner interested in understanding how lung cells can be made from patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). This specific project aims to decipher the cell circuits underlying iPSC differentiation to lung cells. This project  will use single-cell RNA-seq in combination with genetic perturbations (e.g. perturb-seq) to reveal the gene regulatory networks that underlie lung cell differentiation. This is an exciting and unique opportunity for a motivated researcher to be able to work closely with a technician under their supervision to generate state-of-the-art single cell genomics data, and apply cutting edge and novel approaches to analyze these data.

We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow to join our research team in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of British Columbia. Led by Dr. Mary De Vera, our team conducts patient-oriented, epidemiologic and health services research with the goal of addressing information needs and developing interventions to support patients living with chronic diseases, particularly arthritis and cancer.  We specialize in multi-method research spanning: 1) quantitative research using administrative databases and national health surveys; and 2) qualitative research using novel methods of data gathering.

ICORD, in the UBC Faculty of Medicine, Vancouver Campus, is seeking a postdoctoral research fellow to join an established group of scientists and clinicians in the laboratory of Dr. Andrei Krassioukov for a two-year term (with the possibility of extension), starting immediately.

ICORD is a world-leading health research centre focused on spinal cord injury. From the lab-based cellular level of understanding injury to rehabilitation and recovery, our researchers are dedicated to developing new treatments, strategies, and cures from the time of trauma to post-injury recovery. Dr. Krassioukov’s basic and clinical research has been focused on autonomic dysfunctions following SCI for more than 20 years. He has developed a multi-disciplinary laboratory that is internationally recognized for expertise in autonomic research.

A position is open for a postdoctoral fellow with a PhD in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, or a related discipline, and a strong interest in neuroscience, cardiovascular and vascular biology. Interested candidates must be self-motivated and have at least two first-authored papers in peer-reviewed journals. Experience in spinal cord/peripheral nerve stimulation, bladder & bowel dysfunction, experimental animal research, immunocytochemistry, and/or histology is an asset.

The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to perform experiments to determine the neuronal and molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular and autonomic (i.e., bladder, bowel, sexual, and cardiovascular) dysfunction following spinal cord injury. This involves in vivo, ex vivo, and in vitro experiments along with extensive work involving rodent models of spinal cord injury. The fellow will also be expected to write scientific publications, apply for research funding, and present their work at institutional journal clubs and international conferences.

A postdoc fellowship position is available in Dr. Xuesen Dong’s lab (http://donglab.ca). Our research focuses on the mechanisms of therapy-resistant prostate cancers and the development of therapeutics to manage the disease (representative publications PMID: 32634132, 30910347, 27180064, 31819165). Ongoing projects include

1. deciphering cancer stem cell signal pathways to regulate neuroendocrine prostate cancers and
2. alternative RNA to regulate therapy-resistant prostate cancer progression.
3. drug development targeting Lin28 and TOP2

We are looking for multiple candidates to expand the existing projects to understand how Lin28 regulates stem cell networks to counteract therapy-induced stress and apply computer-aided drug design to develop Lin28 inhibitors. Candidates with animal handling, lentiviral manipulations, or ChIP-seq backgrounds are welcome.

Candidates should have a MD, MD/PhD, or PhD in neuroscience, neurophysiology, kinesiology, or cardiovascular and vascular biology. Interested candidates must be self-motivated and have at least two first-authored papers in peer-reviewed journals. Experience with spinal cord/peripheral nerve stimulation and autonomic testing is an asset
