Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral fellow in quantitative genetics to develop breeding goals for potato

The primary focus of this position is to develop breeding goals for multi-trait selection in potato. The successful candidate is expected to develop and derive economic values for the traits in the breeding goals, in collaboration with potato breeding company. This process may involve using various methodologies, such as accounting approaches, profit functions, or bio-economic models, to integrate biological and production parameters, market and non-market trait values, and industry feedback into both short- and long-term breeding strategies. The primary objective is to create a tool that plant breeders can use to calculate and apply breeding goals for various purposes. For instance, the tool may facilitate the development of selection indices for specific stages in the breeding cycle, or potato products for market segments and specific stakeholder requirements. Additionally, the candidate may analyze real-world data for genomic multi-trait selection, and use simulation models for breeding planning. The successful candidate is expected to publish high-quality peer-reviewed publications.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in electron irradiation of condensed matter

This position is funded by the Villum Experiment Grant titled “Molecular Motions in Frozen Water”, which aims to study spontaneous polarisation effects in thin layers of water ice that are of relevance to astrochemistry. When dipolar molecules condense on a substrate at cryo-temperatures, the resulting films often spontaneously harbour electric fields that result from the collective ordering of molecular dipoles. This phenomenon manifests as a polarisation potential at the film surface. Direct measurement of the surface potential allows for characterisation of the degree of molecular orientation within the film. Changes in the degree of molecular orientation induced by temperature, for example, can be used to quantify molecular diffusion. This project aims to build an instrument capable of directly measuring these surface potentials and, by doing so, to explore a new method for quantifying molecular diffusion in molecular films.

Other types of experimental data, including scanning tunnelling microscopy imaging and neutron reflectivity will then be used to place the surface potential measurements in context.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position: Enhancing Care Pedagogy in Early Childhood Education and Care (ECEC)

Care is essential for young children’s wellbeing and development and is considered a core value to pedagogues in Danish ECECs. Nevertheless, it remains a challenge to place care on the political, pedagogical and theoretical agenda. Acknowledging that care in ECECs is undertheorised and a complex practice, this project aims to investigate the care pedagogy in ECEC settings and within preservice training of pedagogues. Through ethnographic research, participatory research (research circles), intervention and theoretical development, the project, among other things, seeks to investigate how care:

•    Unfolds within complex social and cultural pedagogical settings
•    Is shaped by institutional conditions
•    Is reflected, not only as a dyadic practice (1:1) but also as a polyadic practice.

How to increase Brain Power – Secrets of Brain Unlocked

(20) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: 2-yr postdoc on human macroecology in a functional trait perspective Aarhus University

This postdoc project will be part of the ECONOVO research theme 1: Diversity Dynamics, focused on understanding biodiversity dynamics in novel ecosystems (NEs) past and present.
This position is focused on understanding the diverse roles humans might have in ecosystems globally by applying a functional trait perspective that integrates cross-cultural ethnographic idata (from, for instance, D-PLACE), palaeodemography (from, for instance, HYDE), and estimates of human energy consumption. Humans have evolved the unique, culturally and technologically mediated ability to act in multiple different ecological roles – for instance, as foragers, pastoralists, farmers, industrialists – and these variable socio-economic constellations determine their interactions with the environment.

Our aim is to understand these ecological interactions globally in a data-driven macroecological approach, and to articulate these analyses with projections of future climate, human energy consumption, and human niche dynamics differentiated by socio-economic constellation.

The postdoc is expected to lead an investigation that combines functional trait theory, metabolic theory and energetics, macroecological modelling, and human socio-ecology to better understand the variable roles adopted by human communities practicing different economies within ecosystems, and their impacts on these – past, present, and future.

We aim for the investigation to encompass a temporal scope spanning from the Middle Pleistocene to potential future scenarios.

We are open to hearing the candidate’s take on this and would like the postdoc to contribute ideas and concepts to the project and lead at least two high-quality papers in this research area. We also emphasize the importance of engaging fully in the center’s outreach and educational efforts, while also supporting and encouraging collaborative work with ECONOVO colleagues, including students.
This collaboration involves sharing skills and contributing to problem-solving within the postdoc’s area of expertise.
