The available postdoc position concerns developing and testing new antimicrobials based on phages on multi-drug resistant pathogens of clinical concern (E. coli, K. pneumoniae, P. aeruginosa, A. baumannii, M. tuberculosis, M. abscessus). Overall, we aim to develop new combination therapies using phages and develop phage therapeutics which are well understood and ready to be tested in pre-clinical models.

We are seeking a highly talented, innovative, and enthusiastic researcher with a Ph.D. in psychological science, cognitive neuroscience, imaging neurosciece, or a related field, awarded within the past two years. The successful candidate will contribute to a project focused on body representation, bodily illusions, multisensory integration, embodied cognition, or processes related to bodily self-awareness, including the sense of body ownership.

The ideal candidate should have expertise in experimental psychology or cognitive imaging neuroscience, with a preference for skills in psychophysics and computational modeling and/or proficiency in neuroimaging methods (e.g., multivoxel pattern analysis). Experience with human electrophysiology (EEG, MEG) or brain stimulation techniques(e.g., TMS) is also highly desirable. The candidate will work within the framework of our research program (www.ehrssonlab.se) but will have substantial freedom to develop their own project based on their ideas, aligned with the scholarship program’s goals of fostering career development and international experience.

We have an opening for an individual wishing to join a multidisciplinary team aimed to understand the biochemical dysregulations that drive the development of asthma. Towards that end, the successful applicant will take the lead in analyzing multiple projects that involve integrating metabolomics and lipidomics data with other omics (e.g., proteomics, transcriptomics) as well as clinical phenotyping data. The primary challenge will be to identify the key molecular drivers of the different sub-types of asthma. Much of the work will involve the use of data from the U-BIOPRED project to investigate severe asthma (https://bit.ly/41gv8iY), as well as metabolomics data from multiple intervention trials to investigate the use of biologics to treat asthma. The overarching aim is to use the findings to develop diagnostic tests for identifying molecular sub-phenotypes of asthma in order to optimize patient treatment.

A post-doctoral scholarship is available in the group of Professor Molly Stevens in the Division of Biomaterials at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and biophysics (MBB). The successful applicant will join a multidisciplinary research team with a translational profile in biomaterials and tissue engineering, and should have expertise in developing and characterizing novel nanoparticle formulations for healthcare applications.

You will investigate the interplay between chromosome organization and function, focusing on SMC complexes and their connection to DNA supercoiling. Your initial focus will be to perform and develop purification methods and biochemical analysis of various variants of SMC complexes and topoisomerase enzymes. With increasing experience, you are expected to develop and pursue new lines of investigations in the area in communication with other members of the team.  You will also participate in the dissemination of obtained research results at conferences and in the form of research papers. 

The successful candidate will be part of an international, interactive, and multidisciplinary team with expertise in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, and bioinformatics. He/she will also be involved in various collaborations with other national and international research teams.

We have an opening for an individual wishing to join us in further developing our spatial biology workflows. The successful candidate will be expected to advance our recently established DESI-MRM mass spectrometry imaging method (see PMID:39460704). Applicants will also be involved in development of our multi-modal imaging workflow coupling DESI-MRM with spatial transcriptomics to map spatial dysregulation in metabolism. Spatial analyses will be performed in multiple model systems including ex vivo human lung tissue and in vivo animal models using both rodent as well as zebra fish-based models. These efforts will include imaging metabolic responses to specific challenges including pro-inflammatory exposures (e.g., T1 and T2 cytokines) as well as environmental chemicals of concern (e.g., PFAS, microplastics) followed by spatial transcriptomics to identify the immune cell niches associated with the formation of specific metabolites. Results will be integrated using in-house software developed in collaboration with the Spatial Biology platforms at the Science for Life Laboratory.

Phase-contrast MRI plays a crucial role in cardiovascular flow quantification, with three-dimensional measurements of time-resolved flow (4D Flow) presenting a unique opportunity to deepen our understanding of cardiovascular hemodynamics. However, challenges like long scan times, motion artifacts, and the trade-off between spatial and temporal resolution remain significant barriers for widespread adoption. The incorporation of advanced image acquisition techniques is starting to fundamentally change what can be analyzed and resolved. Specifically, our group has shown that innovations in sequence development to enable high-quality image recovery at higher acceleration factors and at unprecedented spatiotemporal resolutions, opening for new diagnostic paradigms. 

Your focus will be on developing novel pulse sequences and accompanying image reconstructions for 4D flow imaging, seeking ways to efficiently image volumetric flow in the heart and large vessels. Making use of our translational team, the methods developed will be evaluated using dedicated on-site MRI scanners and in clinical patient cohorts, serving our overall goal of improving our understanding and use of MRI for next-generation cardiovascular care and to translate novel imaging innovations directly into clinical practice.

The successful candidate will be involved in contributing to translational projects at the interface between biomaterials science, chemistry and biology. The candidate will work on the development and characterization of novel nanomaterials for a range of delivery applications. Focus of the research will be in the field of targeted drug delivery for healthcare, with focus on cancer treatment and drug delivery to immune cells. The candidate will be offered extensive opportunities for collaborative work, both within KI and external to the group of Molly Stevens at Oxford University and other academic research groups as well as industrial partners.

Your project will utilize hematopoietic stem cells from elderly or patients with leukemia to identify factors that facilitate stem cell aging and leukemia by single sequencing, creating xenotransplants using “humanized” mice and in vitro systems to investigate the underlying mechanisms.

The Lengefeld lab is looking for a highly motivated scientist:

• A research background in experimental human stem cell biology, hematology and sequencing and cell culture is highly beneficial but not required.

We are seeking a postdoctoral researcher to contribute to an important research program focused on cardiovascular disease in women, with a particular focus on reproductive milestones such as the pregnancy period. The overarching objective of the research program is to expand evidence on the link between women’s reproductive characteristics and cardiovascular disease with the ambition to provide future perspectives of incorporating these insights into novel public health strategies and clinical interventions.

This interdisciplinary research project employs a translational and multifaceted approach, combining clinical and epidemiological study designs with advanced analytic methods. Leveraging Sweden’s comprehensive national health registers, we aim to apply innovative research methodologies, including quasi-experimental designs, to inform on associations and credible estimations of causal effects.

As a postdoctoral researcher in our team, you will be responsible for leading research projects from start to finish, including conceptualizing of research ideas, data processing and analysis, and preparation of scientific manuscripts and grant applications, in collaboration with the principal investigator and collaborators. You will also support younger scholars within the research team and participate in educational activity within the research unit.

The research conducted at the Division of Neuro focuses on a broad range of neurological conditions and disorders, such as neurovascular diseases, spinal cord and peripheral nerve injuries, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and neurotrauma. We also investigate neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), as well as migraine and other headache disorders. The focus is on understanding disease mechanisms, diagnostics and treatments through a combination of clinical and preclinical research, advanced imaging methods, registry-based studies and translational collaborations.

We have a close collaboration with the neurology units at Karolinska University Hospital, ensuring that our research is rapidly translated into clinical practice. Our activities are highly multidisciplinary, involving medical research as well as expertise from other fields such as neurology, neurosurgery, computational sciences and radiology.

As a postdoctoral fellow, you will lead a project aimed at uncovering how interdependencies between skills influence human social learning and contribute to collective outcomes, such as the dynamics of cultural evolution.

In this role, you will:

• Work at the forefront of research in social learning and cultural evolution, developing novel mathematical and computational models to understand these phenomena.
• Have the opportunity to develop your own research ideas within the lab’s focus areas.
• Be responsible for the development and analysis of mathematical and computational models and the dissemination of results through publications and presentations.
• (Depending on your interests) Conduct experimental tests (in-person or online) to evaluate the assumptions and predictions of these models.

You will join a successful and well-funded research group at the Karolinska Institute, collaborating with senior and junior researchers in a supportive and stimulating environment. The project involves collaboration with two other research groups: those of Lucas Molleman at the University of Amsterdam (where a PhD student is working on the same project) and of Pieter van den Berg at KU Leuven. Research visits to Amsterdam and/or Leuven may be possible.

The project will use the zebrafish (Danio rerio) as an in vivo model to elucidate and rescue the effects of ASD risk gene deletions on motor function. The project aims (1) to identify zebrafish mutants with motility defects using an in vivo CRISPR screen, (2) to reveal molecular changes in motor neurons and muscle cells using single-cell transcriptomics and (3) to rescue motor function using genetic and/or pharmacological methods. You will have access to state-of-the-art equipment and facilities to execute this project. You will have the opportunity to work closely with experimental and computational scientists inside the lab.

Biomolecular and Cellular Medicine (BCM) consists of several research groups and core facilities. Activities are translational in nature and include fundamental molecular cell biology studies, pre-clinical testing of therapy/ diagnostic agents and related activities, certified production of cell products for clinical use, phenotypical analysis of cells and tissues as well as clinical studies of patients treated with cell therapy agents.

Our group has expertise in the analysis of extracellular vesicles. Since these are released by all cells and found in bodily fluids, they represent promising targets for the early diagnosis of diseases, such as cancer.

We are focused on understanding the cross-talk between tumor cells and the tumor microenvironment, and how these interactions initiate and drive tumor development. Our goal is to identify vulnerabilities that can be targeted for precision cancer medicine approaches. The postdoctoral candidate will lead a project aimed at identifying early genetic and epigenetic events that contribute to tumor initiation and progression.

We are seeking 1 postdoctoral researcher for an exciting project focused on maternal vaccination. This research aims to understand the safety and effectiveness of vaccines in preventing serious infections during pregnancy and early infancy, as well as to explore the factors that influence women’s acceptance or hesitancy to vaccinate during pregnancy. The project includes both registry-based epidemiological studies and qualitative interview studies.

Our long-term goal is to provide insights that will build public trust in vaccines, drive targeted interventions to increase vaccination uptake during pregnancy, and ultimately reduce disease burden across society.

Key responsibilities at the postdoctoral level include project design, data collection, statistical and qualitative analysis, and the preparation of scientific articles and grant applications. This postdoc position is located in Associate Professor Pauliina Damdimopoulou’s research group at the Division of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBSGYN) within the Department of Clinical Science, Intervention, and Technology. Research and education at OBSGYN cover various aspects of women’s reproductive health, including ovarian biology, endometrial receptivity, fertility preservation methods, reproductive toxicology, stem cell biology, developmental biology, and prenatal diagnostics. We are seeking a motivated postdoctoral researcher to join an innovative ERC-funded project. Your aim will be to resolve embryonic cell fate lineages with unprecedented resolution. The project builds on our establishment of in utero injection to manipulate the nervous system (Mangold et al, 2021), which we applied to barcode lineage tracing neural crest in collaboration (Kameneva & Artemov et al, 2021), and which can be combined with spatial transcriptomics (Ratz et al, 2022). The project involves further optimizing and automating in utero nano-injection methods to target multipotent cells at early developmental stages, enabling precise manipulation and lineage tracing of germ layer derivatives. Advanced techniques, including single-cell RNA sequencing, spatial transcriptomics, and lentiviral barcoding, will be employed to reconstruct lineage trees and uncover cell fate dynamics. The candidate will use existing bioinformatic pipelines to resolve embryonic lineages based on embryonic barcoding, and will be expected to stay at the forefront of next generation single cell lineage tracing. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment with access to world-class facilities and expertise in developmental biology, genetics, and computational analysis.

A postdoctoral research position is available in the laboratory of Immunodeficiency diseases led by Dr Lisa Westerberg (http://ki.se/en/mtc/lisa-westerberg-group). The Westerberg laboratory is located in the top modern Biomedicum building with shared infrastructure for advanced technology platforms and built for interdisciplinary collaborations.  Ongoing research is focused on understanding the molecular mechanisms for development of immunodeficiency diseases with high incidence of cancer (Science Advances 2023, JACI 2022, J Clin Invest 2021).

Modern immunology research generates large datasets from high-throughput sequencing techniques. The Karlsson Hedestam group analyzes highly diverse adaptive immune receptor repertoires and studies the role of germline-encoded polymorphism for antigen-specific responses. The group is now seeking a post-doctoral scientist who is interested in using these large datasets for in-depth investigations about how the adaptive immune response differs between persons. Specifically, the group is looking for a computational scientist with experience in data analysis, statistics, and visualization. The appointment is for a purely computational scientist. It will not involve any wet lab work.
