Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Two postdoctoral positions in cultural policy research at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen
Libraries, archives and museums (LAMs) in Denmark, as well as in the rest of the Western world, are in the midst of a major transformation from being understood as neutral cultural institutions to undertaking a more distinct and active position on certain societal issues. Several LAM-institutions are concerned with contributing to a more inclusive society and drawing attention to past injustices. Simultaneously, LAMs are increasingly involved in solving new types of tasks in society, e.g. fighting climate change or engaging in issues of health and well-being. The research project “Post-neutrality in Libraries, Archives and Museums” examines the ongoing transformation from different perspectives in order to create a conceptual framework that enables society to engage in more productive discussions and evaluations of the practices of cultural institutions.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in dinoflagellate vision and visual ecology
A special family of the single celled dinoflagellates, the warnowiaceans, possesses an organelle, which structurally resembles a camera-type eye. This organelle called the ocelloid is a modified chloroplast and contains a lens-like hyalosome and a retinula flanked by screening pigment. Our optical measurements show that the hyalosome does form an image on the retinula with a spatial resolution of approximately 10 degrees, which will likely allow the mixo-trophic dinoflagellate to detect potential prey items at distances up to 0.5 mm. The project thus seeks to finally prove that the image information is used to control the behavior of the dinoflagellates. It will be a comparative study including several species of warnowiaceans. The project will also examine how a single cell can process the image information putatively coming from the ocelloid. The work will happen in collaboration with the vision group at Lund University and the UAS center at University of Southern Denmark.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in computational modeling of gene regulation in single cells
Large-scale genetic association studies (GWAS) have succeeded in identifying hundreds of thousands of associations between genetic loci and diseases and traits in humans. The next grand challenge — linking disease genetics to disease biology — has yet to be solved. Most GWAS associations involve non-coding variants that lie within gene regulatory elements — enhancers or promoters. However, a lack of precise tools for the accurate assessment of regulatory activities, especially for heterogeneous cell populations, has prevented progress in connecting genetic variants to their impacted gene regulatory processes. To address this challenge, we are 1) developing new assays and 2) computational frameworks to resolve gene regulatory activities in single cells and 3) apply these to map regulatory activities across cell types to investigate the mechanisms and cell-type specific effects of genetic variants. We are seeking a postdoc to join this effort, focusing on developing computational and statistical methods to model enhancer activity, enhancer-gene regulation, and cellular heterogeneity based on single cell data. Specific focus will be to integrate transcription initiation data into modeling of gene regulation and develop frameworks for enhancer-guided variant-to-function analysis.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Genetic and Molecular Mechanisms of Metabolic Regulation
The Pers Group is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to investigate the mechanisms by which human genetic variants associated with obesity influence hypothalamic circuits. This project aims to uncover molecular pathways regulating metabolic homeostasis using a CRISPR-based Perturb-seq system in transgenic animal models, where Cas9 is specifically expressed in reporter animals, enabling targeted gene perturbations in defined hypothalamic and hindbrain cell populations. This Perturb-seq system is currently being established in vivo, providing a strong foundation for immediate experimental work.
This setup allows for single-cell resolution screening of gene expression networks, identifying molecular pathways through which obesity-associated genetic variants impact neuronal function and metabolic regulation. In addition to coupling perturbations to cellular phenotypes, the successfull applicant will integrate these approaches with circuit-level readouts, including neuronal activity measurements, and behavioral phenotyping through advanced rodent metabolic phenotyping techniques, both of which are implemented in core facilities at our center.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral positions in Social Anthropology: The Social Life of Dead Bodies. A new ethnographic approach to migrant deaths in and around the Mediterranean Sea
Postdoc Position 1:
The postdoc will be in charge of subproject 2. In subproject 2, ‘Tracing narratives and testimonies’, the Postdoc will explore narratives of irregular migration and migrant death through the stories of migrants, relatives and humanitarian workers at the transit point of Morocco and through the testimonies extracted from dead migrant bodies at the Laboratorio de Medicina legal de la Universidad de Malaga in Spain. These testimonies, based on physical marks on the dead bodies, reveal evidence of poverty in the country of origin, abuse or torture en route or at transit points and ultimately of harmful death in or close to Europe. In other words, the autopsies use the physical footprints of the world on the body to trace the footprints of the body in the world.
In contrast, the narratives explored in Morocco will be created in the absence of a physical body. Essentially, family members and humanitarian organisations employ practices of determination to trace the missing migrant body through social, physical and economic footprints left behind at the transit points. These footprints can take the form of stories from co-travellers, specifying the last known whereabouts of specific individuals, of migrant smugglers in search of family members to pay off the debt left unpaid, or other types of narratives, as well as messages sent from specific places or personal belongings left behind. The Postdoc will look specifically at how humanitarian organisations are used and get involved in the search for missing migrants, and at how some family members may engage in a form of secondary migration practices, where they physically follow in the footsteps of their missing loved ones, as they uncover fragmented narratives and clues to their whereabouts.
Postdoc Position 2:
The Postdoc will be in charge of subproject 3. In subproject 3, ‘Exploring political decision-making and generative collaborations’, the Postdoc will conduct fieldwork among Spanish and Greek politicians to explore how national and European policies on migration and migrant deaths are developed and implemented, and how statistical information and recurring images of anonymous dead migrant bodies impact the political decision-making process. This project will focus on the practices of determination employed by European politicians and uncover the underlying uncertainties in society and among the political actors.
In addition, the generative collaborations workshops will form a meta-site for the Postdoc, where the conversations and discussions from the workshops will produce a unique type of meta-data on how the fragmented and conflictive narratives can be used in the search for common ground and ‘best practice’ approaches. Thus, the workshops and the unique data they produce will add an extra layer of knowledge generation to the SOLID project.
Finally, the narratives collected throughout the project will be used to develop a website where all the different perspectives and contradictive views captured through the social anatomy of migrant deaths will be presented and shared. The website will tell the stories of migrants and their families, of forensic scientists, policy and law makers and humanitarian workers and of their individual and collective efforts to address the problems of irregular migration as they see them. Thus, through written material and recorded audio and video bites, the website will bring the fragmented and contradictive narratives as well as the generative collaborations to a broader audience. While all research team members, as well as participants at the generative collaboration workshops will contribute to creating content for the website, the main responsibility for the website will be held by the Postdoc.

About The University of Copenhagen, Denmark – Official Website
The University of Copenhagen is a public research university in Copenhagen, Denmark. Founded in 1479, the University of Copenhagen is the second-oldest university in Scandinavia, and ranks as one of the top universities in the Nordic countries and Europe.
Its establishment sanctioned by Pope Sixtus IV, the University of Copenhagen was founded by Christian I of Denmark as a Catholic teaching institution with a predominantly theological focus. In 1537, it was re-established by King Christian III as part of the Lutheran Reformation. Up until the 18th century, the university was primarily concerned with educating clergymen. Through various reforms in the 18th and 19th century, the University of Copenhagen was transformed into a modern, secular university, with science and the humanities replacing theology as the main subjects studied and taught.
The University of Copenhagen consists of six different faculties, with teaching taking place in its four distinct campuses, all situated in Copenhagen. The university operates 36 different departments and 122 separate research centres in Copenhagen, as well as a number of museums and botanical gardens in and outside the Danish capital. The University of Copenhagen also owns and operates multiple research stations around Denmark, with two additional ones located in Greenland. Additionally, The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and the public hospitals of the Capital and Zealand Region of Denmark constitute the conglomerate Copenhagen University Hospital.
A number of prominent scientific theories and schools of thought are namesakes of the University of Copenhagen. The famous Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum mechanics was conceived at the Niels Bohr Institute, which is part of the university. The Department of Political Science birthed the Copenhagen School of Security Studies, which is also named after the university. Others include the Copenhagen School of Theology and the Copenhagen School of Linguistics.
