We are looking to hire two highly skilled bioinformaticians on post-doctoral level to strengthen our research team. Your role will be to lead projects aimed at deepening our mechanistic understanding of ascending aortic aneurysm and heart valve disease and unravel the potential genetic contribution behind it. The tasks include analyzing large-scale research data, such as RNA-seq, proteomics, genomics, and epigenetic data, and integrate with clinical variables from patients. You will work closely in a team with molecular biologists, laboratory technicians, clinicians, PhD students, bioinformaticians, and other postdocs.

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented postdoctoral researcher to join our laboratory for an exciting project focused on mitochondrial function in adipocytes. The project centers on a poorly characterized protein localized to adipocyte mitochondria, predicted to function as an oxidoreductase. Our preliminary data show that loss of this protein impairs insulin-stimulated conversion of glucose into fatty acids, highlighting its potential role in regulating adipocyte metabolism.

The successful candidate will explore the molecular and metabolic functions of this protein using a combination of in vitro and in vivo approaches. This includes leveraging our existing metabolomic tracing data to define altered pathways and analyzing an adipocyte-specific knockout mouse model to assess systemic metabolic effects.

The project will involve CRISPR/Cas9-mediated gene editing, metabolic flux analysis, and transcriptomic and proteomic profiling. The candidate is expected to lead the integration of multi-omic datasets and work closely with bioinformaticians to identify key regulatory mechanisms. Wet lab responsibilities will include adipocyte culture, functional assays, western blotting, and microscopy.

We are looking for a candidate with proficiency and documented research experience particularly in immunology and/or bioinformatics, with a particular emphasis on performing analysis of high-dimensional data, which can be sequencing and/or imaging-based. Experience working with AI and machine learning approaches are considered a strong merit. We are seeking a post-doc candidate who is passionate about answering biological questions related to cancer immunology using cutting edge technology in close collaboration with experimental scientists. The Engblom lab works as a team and is dedicated to fostering the next generation of scientists, so we welcome candidates who are interested to teach and mentor budding scientists.

The candidate will work on a project that aims to unravel the role of mechanical forces in maintaining and differentiating human embryonic stem cells. Specifically, the candidate will investigate how different types of cell-matrix adhesion complexes control stem cell pluripotency and differentiation. The project will involve the development of synthetic DNA nanostructures that measure and selectively perturb mechanical forces at different integrin adhesion complexes. These will be used to dissect the distinct roles of focal and reticular adhesions in regulating stem cell fate and adhesion-mediated signaling pathways.

We have an opening for a post-doctoral fellow wishing to work on two research projects: In one of the projects, you will use data from a large implementation study aimed at preventing mental ill-health among school staff. The other project focuses on flexible work arrangements in academia and its impact on health and psychosocial work environment factors. Your role will include data-cleaning, data-management, advanced statistical analysis, writing scientific articles and contributing to Swedish reports.

• Perform LC/MS based proteomic analyses of circulating proteins and assess their impact on organs in mouse models and cell cultures.
• Analyze and interpret omics data using bioinformatic pipelines in Python and R.
• Coordinate the collaboration between the chronobiology lab (led by Dr. Paul Petrus) and the proteomics lab (led by Dr. Amir Saei).

We are looking for a highly motivated and ambitious postdoctoral researcher to explore the functional plasticity of TRM cells in human skin and/or preclinical models. The position will include the following:

• Designing and performing experiments to investigate TRM heterogeneity, differentiation, and functional states in inflammatory skin diseases.
• Applying advanced immunological and molecular techniques, such as multiparameter flow cytometry, cell sorting, in vitro differentiation assays, spatial transcriptomics, and in vivo imaging (e.g., two-photon microscopy). Exact experimental platforms will be decided depending on the expertise and interest of the applicant and the needs in the project.
• Work with human skin explants and/or humanized mouse models of skin inflammation.
• Collaborating with internal and external partners to analyze human tissue samples and/or animal models.
• Actively participating in research discussions, contributing to a dynamic and collaborative research environment, and mentoring junior lab members.
• Preparing scientific presentations, contributing to grant applications, and leading or co-authoring manuscripts for publication.

The work will take place within a Kamprad-funded research project “Patients’ Role in reducing Low-Value Care”. The starting point is that many interventions in healthcare are used despite lacking support in research, so-called low-value care. These interventions are at best unnecessary and at worst cause harm and should therefore be de-implemented, i.e., stopped being used. A contributing factor to the use of low-value interventions, according to previous research, is that patients demand and expect the interventions, but the research lacks the patients’ perspective. The project aims to fill an important knowledge gap by investigating why patients demand low-value interventions and how patients can be involved in the work to reduce these. The methods that will be used to investigate the reasons for demand are qualitative interviews and survey experiments, so-called factorial survey experiments. Based on the knowledge from these, proposals for interventions to reduce the demand for low-value interventions will be co-created with healthcare staff and patient representatives. The relevance and usability of the interventions will be evaluated and finally, the ability of the interventions to reduce low-value care will be tested in a new survey experiment.

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be involved in all parts of the projects. The tasks include designing and planning as well as conducting the studies in collaboration with the research group, collecting data (mainly through interviews and surveys), and conducting qualitative and quantitative analyses. The tasks also include writing scientific articles and presenting the results at scientific conferences, and may also include helping organizations interpret and implement the results. Finally, the tasks also include administrative tasks related to the research process, including establishing routines related to research documentation.

The postdoctoral fellow will lead new projects that aim to uncover the mechanisms underlying human social learning, and how these mechanisms contribute to collective, societal-level outcomes (e.g., cultural evolution). The postdoc will work at the forefront of research in this field, developing novel empirical and computational models to understand human social learning. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop their own research ideas within the areas of social learning and cultural evolution. Responsibilities will include the design and implementation of experiments (in person and/or online), development/analysis of computational models, data analysis, and dissemination of the results.

We have access to state-of-the-art 3-Tesla MRI scanners at Karolinska Institutet and Stockholm University Brain Imaging Center (SUBIC). The postdoctoral fellow will be part of a successful and well-funded research group, surrounded by senior and junior researchers. Our research group collaborates with other groups at the department and a number of prominent research groups around the world, providing opportunities for international exchanges.

The overall goal of this project is to develop modern, multi-modal prediction models for assessing personalized risk for adverse outcomes, premature death, response to drugs, etc. in patients with carotid atherosclerosis. Our hypothesis is that AI/ML aided multi-modal data integration per patient will lead to more accurate predictions compared to currently widely used risk scoring tools, which are based mostly on clinical data or diagnostic imaging. The project will be performed using already existing resources and data within a large biobank of atherosclerosis patients at KI, BiKE.

The project will also be embedded in the framework of an EU Horizon project NextGen (https://www.nextgentools.eu), where KI partners participate together with totally 20 other clinical research centers, universities, professional associations, small-to-medium enterprizes and non-profit representative organizations of civil society, aiming to develop the next generation AI/ML tools for multi-modal data integration in personalized cardiovascular medicine. Another aim of NexGen is to overcome limitations with respect to health-care data sharing imposed by the EU GDPR laws by generating novel tools for health-care data portability, while implementing rigorous personal data governance principles and AI ethics.

The project holds translational potential in opening new opportunities for improved treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease, but also carries considerable novelty in the research field. We offer a position in one of the leading groups in the field of vascular disease with an excellent network of international and industrial collaborators, and longstanding experience in translational science. We are seeking a highly motivated and ambitious individual to join the research group of Professor Yenan Bryceson as a Postdoctoral Fellow to identify and mechanistically understand novel primary immunodeficiency diseases with susceptibility to viral infection, hyperinflammation, as well as cancer. Results can provide rationales for improved cellular therapies against cancer. The research projects focus on the development and application of cutting-edge three-dimensional (3D) imaging techniques to investigate complex biological systems. This includes establishing novel tissue preparation protocols that combine advanced fluorescent labeling strategies for proteins and RNA with efficient tissue clearing, along with advanced 3D imaging and data processing. We are using several of the latest biomedical research technologies—including tissue clearing, in situ hybridization chain reaction, light-sheet microscopy, and spatial transcriptomics—on samples from transgenic autism animal models, human 3D organoids, and clinical tumor biopsies.

A central goal is to further develop the TRISCO method (Kanatani et al., Science, 2024) for multiplex 3D RNA labeling and imaging in large tissue volumes, including whole-brain samples. Leveraging our advanced 3D imaging platform, we aim to study the architecture and function of brain structures, neural circuits, and long-range networks (Smedler et al., PNAS, 2022) in the context of brain development, psychiatric disorders such as autism, and cancer.

The Baranello Lab – Drawing from our expertise in the fields of topoisomerase and cancer biology, we aim to answer fundamental questions about how transcription, replication and DNA topology are functionally coordinated in human cells. We use state-of-the-art approaches to assess transcriptomic, epigenomic and replisomic profiles, as well as molecular biology, advanced microscopy and drug screens to understand how topoisomerase regulation affects fundamental nuclear processes (key lab references: Baranello et al. Cell 2016; Wiegard et al. Molecular Cell 2021; Das et al. Molecular Cell 2022; Cameron et al. Science Advances 2023). The overall aim is to reveal novel cancer therapy targets and improved strategies for personalized treatment.

Recently we have identified a protein complex called “topoisome” in which the oncoprotein MYC recruits and increases the catalytic activities of both Topoisomerase 1 and 2 to promote high rates of transcriptional (Das et al. Molecular Cell 2022). The successful candidate will play a leading role in a full-time research project funded by the European Research Council Consolidator Grant, focused to address the functional role of the topoisome during transcription. Specifically we want to study the coordination of the topoisome and the transcriptional machinery. The outcome of this work is predicted to inspire a new strategy to target MYC in cancer, which will be tested in MYC-driven cancer models. This multidisciplinary project involves master biochemistry, master molecular biology, proteomics/genomics, and computational analysis. The postdoc will plan and execute experiments, analyze data, interpret, and present the results, supervise students as well as write scientific articles, initially under partial supervision but with greater independence going forward.

We are looking for a motivated and skilled individual to contribute to our research on the role of granulocytes in disease pathology, with a particular interest in immune-mediated inflammatory diseases such as severe dengue or psoriasis. The overall goal is to generate insights that can guide the development of improved diagnostic tools and targeted therapeutic strategies.

A solid knowledge of flavivirus infection models in cell lines, primary cells, characterization of virus dynamics and development of animal models of viral infection is a requirement, You should have a solid background in granulocyte biology, including experience in neutrophil isolation from blood or bone marrow of mice, functional assays, immunophenotyping and co-culture experiments. Expertise in human immune response to viral infections is advantageous. The project involves optimization and application of advanced methods in single-cell biology, such as high-dimensional flow cytometry, single-cell RNA sequencing, confocal microscopy, and isolation and analysis of extracellular vesicles. Experience of working with these techniques is an advantage.

The work will mostly be based at the Department of Global Public Health at Karolinska Institutet in Solna. The applicant is expected to independently conduct own research but also to assist in existing research projects in public health in the field of sexual and reproductive health and rights both in Sweden and in Sub-Saharan Africa. Responsibilities include writing of grant applications, project coordination, project reporting, qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis, scientific writing and frequent communication in speech and writing with both national and international partners, including leading the so-called Global Conversations for the Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Health (CESH). Supervision of students at Master and PhD level will also be expected, as well as teaching in global health and sexual and reproductive health. The post-doc will also be an important part of the research group and is expected to actively participate in the work and development of the group.  

As a postdoctoral researcher, you will contribute to ongoing analyses and drive innovative research projects. Your work will involve neuroimaging research using PET markers targeting protein aggregates, inflammatory processes, and synaptic density, combined with new biomarkers in plasma/CSF and clinical data. Our group specializes in therapeutic applications targeting cholinergic pathways, primarily using Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) via encapsulated cell (EC Biodelivery) or cholinesterase inhibitors (ChEI’s) towards Alzheimer’s disease (AD) therapy. We aim to further our work by performing in-depth gene expression analysis from high-throughput sequencing projects, employing in-vitro, preclinical and clinical studies.

This position involves designing and executing experiments, data management and analysis, manuscript preparation, presenting research, contributing to grant proposals and mentoring students. The candidate will analyze and integrate next-generation sequencing data and have the opportunity to publish in high-profile papers, with national and international collaborations.

The ideal candidates should hold a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or a related field, with experience in omics data analysis (e.g., single-cell RNA-seq, bulk RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, methylation data, or any other). Proficiency in analyzing single-cell ATAC-seq and spatial transcriptomics, programming languages and advanced bioinformatic tools is an asset. The candidate should have an interest in neurodegenerative diseases and a proven record of high-quality scientific research and publications. The research will focus on the functional investigation of neurons and circuits in shaping motivated behaviors through a number of advanced circuit approaches to target, record and manipulate genetically-defined neuron subtypes. The project will address the in vivo role of specific neuron subtypes in the basal ganglia, hypothalamus, and the lateral habenula.

The project will use and develop cell-type specific strategies in mice to image and manipulate neuron subtypes in vivo (e.g. with optogenetics) and sophisticated behavioral paradigms (freely moving and head-fixed) in a state-of-the-art infrastructure. The project will benefit from ongoing projects that have established the identity and connectivity of neuron subtypes in relevant circuits based on single cell RNA-seq and monosynaptic rabies tracing.

The postdoc position requires solid expertise in genomics, transcriptomics and proteomics data analysis, communication skills and the willingness to work in a team environment. The postdoc position requires solid expertise in molecular biology and/or proteomics data generation. The postdoctoral research offers great possibility for innovative research combining discovery methods such as proteomics with methods for mechanistic investigation and validation, performed together with a dedicated group of scientists.

The postdoc employment will focus on applying experimental methods on biologically/clinically relevant research questions and on analyzing the acquired data followed by validation and expansion on the findings using public domain data. The research will include mechanistic investigation of the biology behind different lung cancer subgroups, experimental testing of the predicted novel therapeutic strategies in model systems, and the development of strategies to use the generated information to guide future therapy selection in lung cancer. The PostDoc will, together with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, plan, perform and analyze proteomics and molecular biology experiments, with the aim to understand the biology of lung cancer subgroups in context of improving lung cancer treatment. More specifically, this includes both applying our in-house developed proteomics methods as well as setting up targeted molecular biology methods for mechanistic investigation and validation of specific findings. Targeted investigations will include both generation and application of genetic models, e.g., through knock-out/silencing or overexpression of genes, as well as drug sensitivity testing. Experimental design and statistical analysis of the quantitative data are important components of the work, and it is expected that the applicant is acquainted with software related to omics data analysis.
