(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Research Associate for the Project “W4 Gravity wave parameterization for the ocean” of the collaborative research center TRR 181 Energy transfers in atmosphere and ocean § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG

The TRR 181 is a DFG (German Research Foundation) funded collaborative research center that involves several German universities and research institutes and aims at better understanding and consistently representing energy transfers between different dynamical regimes in mathematical and numerical models (see https://www.trr-energytransfers.de). The subproject W4 investigates energetically consistent parameterizations of wave-induced turbulent mixing in ocean general circulation models, notably the IDEMIX (Internal wave Dissipation, Energy and MIXing) concept. Tasks specific to this position include (a) the development of a computationally cheap simplified IDEMIX model to increase its usability, and (b) a thorough evaluation of the different IDEMIX versions with respect to the characteristics of the modelled wave field, the associated computational costs and the agreement with global scale observations. The successful candidate will be part of the theoretical oceanography group at the University of Hamburg, working under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Carsten Eden (University of Hamburg), Dr. Friederike Pollmann (University of Hamburg) and Prof. Dr. Dirk Olbers (University of Bremen and Alfred-Wegener-Institute for Polar and Marine Research). There will be strong collaboration with the experimental oceanographers at University of Bremen and with the climate modelers at University of Bremen, Alfred-Wegener-Institute for Polar and Marine Research (Bremerhaven), and Max-Planck-Institute for Meteorology (Hamburg). The successful candidate will also be a member of the projects’ research training group ENERGY, which connects the participating universities and research institutes and provides dedicated training courses, ample opportunity for (international) networking and a mentoring program to support career development. The position includes the responsibility to teach 1 hours/week.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate for the Project “OK Energy” concerned with ocean eddies § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG

The project is concerned with the analysis of novel SWOT altimeter data to gain insight into small-scale ocean dynamics and turbulence covering global and regional ocean flow aspects. To this extent SWOT data will be analyzed with respect to their sub-mesoscale eddy content and will be used to constrain a high-resolution ocean circulation model through data assimilation. The successful candidate will use the data insight and the output of the model to improve our understanding of sub-mesoscale ocean dynamics.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate for the Project “CQ4CD: Continuous Quality Control for Continuous Delivery Architectures – Systematic Engineering of Performance, Reliability, and Resilience” § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG

The position is part of the joint project CQ4CD (Continuous Quality Control for Continuous Delivery Architectures) between the University of Hamburg (UHH) and the University of Vienna (UNIVIE). The position is based entirely in Hamburg, and interaction with project partners is encouraged. The aim of the project is to develop and analyze architectures for Continuous Delivery (CD), with a particular focus on aspects of performance, reliability, and resilience.

The tasks will concentrate on analyzing CI/CD pipeline architectures to identify common patterns and anti-patterns that influence performance, reliability, and resilience. There is a need to document existing architectures and established practices that can contribute to improving these pipeline qualities. Special emphasis will be placed on developing models for assessing the performance and reliability of CD architectures, taking into account the specific requirements and challenges of modern software projects. Additionally, automated tools will be implemented to help identify potential performance bottlenecks or design flaws in the pipelines and their architectures at an early stage.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate for the Project “Rapid Adaptive Change – Subproject: Rapid adaptive change in insect-spider communities” § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG

The project aims to understand how arthropod communities are changing under the pressure of climate change. In particular, you will leverage biological collections (from museums and biodiversity databases) comparing past and present communities, combined with space-for-time comparisons between distinct regions of Germany, to evaluate how global change drives changes in the trait composition on the level of communities. You will focus on five taxa with relatively good data availability: Aculeata, Araneae, Lepidoptera, Odonata and Orthoptera. Measurement of traits will be developed in close interaction with other subprojects, in particular with the subproject “Rapid adaptive change in species specific traits of insect-spider communities” evaluating intraspecific trait changes of selected species in the focal arthropod taxa. Eventually you will identify functions and interactions that are particularly at risk and assess to what extent arrival of new species into changing communities can compensate for the loss of species most sensitive to climate change.

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate for the Project “CAARE Marie Curie ITN” on nanodevices for optical single particle analysis § 28 Subsection 3 HmbHG (2 positions)

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate to become part of our CAARE Marie Skłodowska-Curie International Training Network. CAARE is a European Doctoral Networks project and deals with the characterization and recovery of bionanoparticles. The goal of this PhD project is to develop methods for the characterization of bio-nano-particles by using nanofluidic devices with a variety of functional elements and novel optics. The candidate will have to work in the cleanroom to design and fabricate the devices, and develop an optical set up for signal read out. This will involve developing new protocols for nanodevice fabrication, tailored to its specific needs, and complying with the material requirements for biocompatibility and optical characterization.
