Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate x 2 (Analytics) – Physiological Pathways in Mental Health
An exciting new opportunity has opened in the Department of Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Sciences for two Post-Doctoral Research Associates to lead on a line of research to identify physiological indices (e.g., autonomic function, attention, arousal) associated with variation in developmental trajectories of mental health. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate
Candida albicans is usually a commensal organism of mucosal surfaces but under suitably predisposing conditions can cause severe morbidity and life-threatening infections. C. albicans possesses several virulence factors that promote disease including the ability to form hyphae and secrete the toxin candidalysin. However, the regulatory factors that control the yeast-hypha transition and direct pathogenic and commensal mechanisms are unclear. A Research Associate will employ molecular, protein, cellular, immunological and ‘omic’ technologies to investigate the yeast-hypha transition*,* candidalysin gene (ECE1) regulation, and the host response against pathogenic and commensal strains of C. albicans in vivo. They will be funded by the BBSRC and based in the laboratories of Professor Julian Naglik and Dr Jonathan Richardson at King’s College London, where they will produce independent, original research within the group.
Deadline : 15 May 2025.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate
This post will work on the genetic epidemiology of back pain, intervertebral disc degeneration and hearing loss, supporting the research activities of Prof Frances Williams (PI, Dept of Twin Research, School of Life Course Sciences). We are increasingly moving to multi-omic analysis of microbiome and metabolites to understand their relationship with chronic complex traits. The use of two sample Mendelian randomisation is allowing us to truly define the risk factors which cause common complex conditions, and how they interact with host genetics.
There will have a unique opportunity to work on data from important cohorts including TwinsUK and UK Biobank. The applicant should be familiar with all aspects of genetic epidemiology including heritability studies, GWAS and multi-omic modelling.
There will also be opportunities to engage in other projects using deeply phenotyped cohorts, as well as with other projects involving genomics research and age-related diseases, in particular chronic pain and age-related hearing loss.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Associate
Dominant dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (DDEB) is a rare genetic skin disorder leading to severe skin fragility from birth caused by single pathogenic variants in the type VII collagen gene (COL7A1). These defects alter the type VII collagen protein in the skin which normally makes adhesion structures called anchoring fibrils that hold the outer layer (epidermis) and inner layer (dermis) together to prevent blistering. Gene therapy is the only possible cure for these patient to restore skin health long-term. While currently developed gene editing approaches are highly effective in cell culture, a key challenge is the skin targeted delivery in vivo.
This CureEB charity funded project will focus on testing and optimising the gene editing delivery targeting COL7A1 with a lipid nanoparticle system into the skin using a combination of state-of-the-art 3D skin cell culture and in vivo DDEB disease models, carrying equivalent disease causing single nucleoid variants and mimicking key features of the human disease.

About King’s College London, United Kingdom – Official Website
King’s College London (informally King’s or KCL) is a public research university located in London, United Kingdom, and a founding college and member institution of the federal University of London. King’s was established in 1829 by King George IV and Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington, when it received its first royal charter (as a university college), and is one of the oldest universities in England. In 1836, King’s became one of the two founding colleges of the University of London. In the late 20th century, King’s grew through a series of mergers, including with Queen Elizabeth College and Chelsea College of Science and Technology (in 1985), the Institute of Psychiatry (in 1997), the United Medical and Dental Schools of Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospitals and the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery (in 1998).
King’s has five campuses: its historic Strand Campus in central London, three other Thames-side campuses (Guy’s, St Thomas’ and Waterloo) nearby and one in Denmark Hill in south London. It also has a presence in Shrivenham for its professional military education and in Newquay, Cornwall, where its information service centre is based. In 2019/20, King’s had a total income of £964.3 million, of which £200.5 million was from research grants and contracts. It has the fourth largest endowment of any university in the United Kingdom, and the largest of any in London. It is the 12th largest university in the United Kingdom by total enrolment. Its academic activities are organised into nine faculties, which are subdivided into numerous departments, centres, and research divisions.
It is a member of academic organisations including the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the European University Association, and the Russell Group. King’s is home to six Medical Research Council centres and is a founding member of the King’s Health Partners academic health sciences centre, Francis Crick Institute and MedCity. It is the largest European centre for graduate and post-graduate medical teaching and biomedical research, by number of students, and includes the world’s first nursing school, the Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery. King’s is at times regarded as part of the “golden triangle” of universities located in the cities of Oxford, Cambridge and London.
