The candidate is expected to pursue a research program in the areas of computational mechanics and/or heat and mass transfer related to manufacturing. Modeling work can be mechanistic, data-driven or hybrid, and novel applications would be welcome.

The Department of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at Cornell University is seeking a Research Associate to lead an innovative research program in AI, Deep Learning, and machine learning applications for climate science. This research position will advance cutting-edge approaches to climate prediction, extreme event detection, and seasonal forecasting while building a collaborative research group at Cornell. The position offers substantial independence in research direction while emphasizing mentorship of early career researchers and graduate students and the development of novel computational approaches to climate science challenges.

The primary focus of this position is to establish and direct a research program applying state-of-the-art AI techniques to analyze high-resolution climate datasets. Key emphasis will be placed on developing novel AI approaches for detecting anthropogenic climate signals, improving seasonal-to-decadal predictions, and creating innovative visualization methods. The Research Associate will build a team of graduate students and Postdoctoral Associates while making advanced computational methods more accessible to researchers across career stages. A central goal is to enhance the communication and visualization of climate information through innovative data science approaches, making complex climate projections more accessible to stakeholders and decision-makers.

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Associate 1-year renewable term position in our Applied Economics and Policy area, with a school affiliation in the Dyson School. The intended start date of this position is July 1, 2025. The position will be based in Ithaca, NY.

Responsibilities of the position include conducting independent research on the natural resource drivers of U.S. agricultural productivity, coordinating with other researchers on campus, presenting this research at national and international conferences and drafting, submitting and revising manuscripts for peer review.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in agricultural and resource economics, economics, or related field by the start of the position. The ideal candidate has a strong quantitative background (econometrics and causal inference), clear research interests in agricultural sustainability, experience coding and manipulating large geo-spatial datasets in R including Google Earth Engine.

Postdoctoral Fellowship in pandemic prevention and disease dynamics: The Plowright Lab at Cornell University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scientist to help lead research investigating the dynamics of viral zoonoses in reservoir hosts, to help coordinate transdisciplinary research on zoonotic spillover, and to help build new efforts to understand the mechanisms of viral spillover in the context of anthropogenic stressors.

This position requires a capable scientist in the area of quantitative ruminant nutrition and modeling.  The particular focus will be centered around the Cornell Net Carbohydrate and Protein System version 7.   The individual would be responsible for providing additional validation of methane emissions outputs from CNCPS using methane respiration chamber data to demonstrate that the modeled data correlates with actual measurements and share findings to educate nutritionists.  Developing guidelines elucidating the necessary studies and steps for new enteric methane-inhibiting products to be incorporated into CNCPS and creating educational materials to inform organizations developing enteric solutions.  It would also be expected that this individual engages with dairy nutritionists and other stakeholders about what the CNCPS would need to deliver to meet their needs around the inclusion of enteric methane-inhibiting products. In addition, other functions would be modification of the rumen sub-model of the CNCPS to be adaptable for other feed ingredients and rumen modifiers that reduce methane production – while predicting first limiting nutrients for productivity and further development of the gastrointestinal tract sub-model of the CNCPS.

Postdoctoral Associate position in computational collective behavior. We are recruiting a postdoctoral scholar for an interdisciplinary NSF-funded research project. The goal of the research is to discover how collectives can be made more creative, intelligent and when they can select the rules governing their interactions. The focus of the position is on designing and running large-scale online behavioral experiments. The postdoctoral associate will work collaboratively with PIs and other postdoctoral scholars at UC Davis, Princeton, and CUNY. 

The postdoctoral associate will design and implement large-scale online, behavioral experiments using the PsyNet platform (www.psynet.dev) and the Unity engine to create interactive social environments for testing hypotheses about collective action.  The postdoctoral researcher will recruit and engage large samples of participants, often in the hundreds or thousands, to interact within these environments and with one another in artificial social networks. Some experiments will employ a human-in-the-loop approach (Harrison et al., 2020) to optimize environment parameters dynamically. The postdoctoral associate will utilize computational techniques, including modeling, simulations, and machine learning, to analyze the collected data. They will also be expected to synthesize findings into high-impact publications in top-tier journals such as Science, Nature, Nature Human Behaviour, Science Advances, and PNAS.
