CO2 injection into geological formations is a crucial means for carbon sequestration on a climate-impact scale. Nevertheless, the storage capacity in subsurface porous rocks is limited by the poor sweep and trapping efficiency of the gas injected. Foam is a promising technology for improved gas sweep and trapping, which enhances the storage capacity and safe trapping of CO2. One key to success of foam applications for large-scale carbon sequestration lies on long-distance placement of foam into formations. The goal of this project is to determine the conditions for long-distance propagation of CO2 foam in porous media and quantify the impact of influential factors. The results are expected to demonstrate the feasibility of CO2 foam for large-scale carbon sequestration on lab scale.

The ASPIRE Research Institute for Food Security in the Drylands is looking for a Research Assistant in Business/Marketing with a special interest/experience in Food/Agriculture (or related areas). This Institute features a comprehensive and highly interdisciplinary R&D programme and provides an international collaboration platform for researchers and stakeholders of the public and private food agricultural sector. It strives to generate knowledge and technological innovation in support of food security in the UAE and other arid environments of the world. As part of one of its research themes, the Institute will assess and develop market opportunities for farmed marine fish, native poultry, and other novel food and feed. This will involve studies of consumer preferences and market opportunities and supporting academic studies that evaluate the marketplace receptivity towards alternative farming methods, novel food, feed and supplements for animals and humans. To support this work, the Post-Doc position will require excellent English speaking and writing (Arabic ability an advantage) and a completed PhD degree is expected (ideally from an AACSB-accredited institution), with some evidence of interest/experience in the novel food/alternative farming field. The Operations Research & Statistics group of the United Arab Emirates University seeks to hire a post-doctoral researcher for a period of 1 year (with a possibility of extension) to start on September 1st, 2023. The post-doctoral researcher is expected to collaborate and assist in an ongoing funded research project on sustainable inventory management. More precisely, the post-doc researcher is expected to model an inventory management problem where the lead time duration is part of the decision making problem, which does not only affect the inventory and transportation cost, but also the environmental impact of the system. The problem needs to be modeled, coded, analyzed, and numerical experiments need to be conducted.

The Physics department at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship to work in the field of computational physics. Candidates must have good experience with density-functional theory (DFT) packages such as VASP, Quantum Espresso and/or WIEN2k. The aim is to employ DFT to study the photonics, energy-storage and gas-sensing properties of 2D systems (Monolayers). The completion of a PhD degree in Physics or Materials Science is required. The Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department at the United Arab Emirates University is seeking a Post-Doc in the area of Chemical Engineering. The applicant should be knowledgeable of catalytic membrane systems for hydrogenation-dehydrogenation reactions. The candidate also should be able to apply suitable coating method to synthesize catalytic surfaces on membranes, to characterize them, and analyze the modules for separation and reaction features. The preferred candidate should have demonstrated experience in research within the field, and have the capability to work independently, and to train train/supervise students in the group. Being familiar with CO2 hydrogenation and modeling of reactive systems will be a plus.
