(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Post-doc position in the field of Optimization and Deep Learning Theory

The Optimization of Machine Learning Systems Group (Prof. A. Lucchi) at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at the University of Basel is looking for one post-doctorate to work in the areas of optimization for machine learning, and theory of deep learning. Potential research topics include the development of adaptive optimization methods, the exploration of the loss landscape in deep neural networks, and the design of novel neural network architectures that enhance efficiency in both training and inference.
 
Position available starting around November 2025 (position may begin later as well). Post-doctoral positions are initially for 2 years, with the potential for extension up to 4 years.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Research Assistant, Digital Media Studies 60%

This particular position will be associated with the professorships held by Prof. Dr. Markus Krajewski and Prof. Dr. Ranjodh Singh Dhaliwal. The prerequisite is a doctorate (by the time of appointment) in media studies, science and technology studies, digital humanities, computer science, literary studies, philology, cultural studies, history and philosophy of science and technology, information studies, or other related disciplinary configurations in the qualitative humanities. We are open in terms of your research focus but it must include historically situated and technically rigorous theoretical work as its central component. Additionally, engagements with some of the following domains – cultural techniques, media archaeology, critical making, media forensics, medium design, infrastructure studies, political economy, game studies, and/or code studies – would be welcomed. Also desirable would be experience (or interest) in local and global community building, academic and para-academic event organization, and/or visual design.
Strong language and communication skills in English are a requirement. A residence in the trinational region of Basel would be mandatory.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral researcher: Ecology of deep soil forest fungi

We are looking for talented candidates with a doctoral degree and a background in microbial ecology, forest biology or something similar. Candidates are expected to have experience in fungal ecology, (meta-)genomics, bioinformatics, and multivariate statistics. Experiences in forest ecology and biogeochemistry are welcomed but not required. You are highly self-motivated and committed, have a proactive mindset and a getting-things-done attitude. We are looking for a highly flexible (prepared to work periodically abroad), well organized, detail-oriented and collaborative person with good communication skills and the ability to work well in an interdisciplinary and international environment. (04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: PostDoc in European Global Studies with a focus on law

The Europainstitut at the University of Basel is seeking a full-time postdoc in European Global Studies with a legal focus, starting October 1, 2025, or by arrangement.
Founded in 1993, the Europainstitut’s research and teaching focus examines the relationship between Switzerland and Europe in a globally connected world. As an interdisciplinary institution with approximately 30 employees, the institute brings together expertise from political science, economics, philosophy, history, and law, offering an interdisciplinary and internationally oriented academic program in European Global Studies.
The position, which, according to the University of Basel’s employment conditions for postdoctoral researchers, is limited to a maximum of six years (two plus four years), is designed as a junior research position and includes a teaching commitment of four semester hours per week in the field of European Global Studies. Preference will be given to candidates with a legal research focus at the interface with the interdisciplinary research profile of European Global Studies (particularly desirable: migration law, human rights, and international law).

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Position in 3D Digitization and Cultural Heritage Imaging (36 months)

The Digital Humanities is an interdisciplinary institution at the University of Basel. Its task is to coordinate and promote research, teaching and infrastructure for questions of technological and digital worlds in the humanities and social sciences. It is also a central institution in Switzerland for the theory and practice of digital humanities and offers a master’s degree and a doctorate in digital humanities. It has collaborative ties with several departments of the university, including (but not limited to) Departments of Arts, Media, and Philosophy, Languages and Literatures, History, Ancient Civilizations, Social Sciences, as well as the faculty of Psychology. There is a broad focus of research and teaching in the lab, including computational photography, media studies, science and technology studies, videogame studies, critical making and design, AI and society, computational social science, and psychology.
 
We invite applications for a full-time postdoctoral researcher to join the interdisciplinary SNSF-funded research project “Digital Originals in 3D” (D2M). This innovative project is a collaboration between the University of Basel, the Bern University of the Arts, and the FHNW. The goal is to develop a highly automated, reproducible pipeline for the capture, processing, and dissemination of 3D digital twins of cultural artifacts using cutting-edge imaging and rendering technologies.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scientific Collaborator (80-100%)

The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a world-leading institute in global health with a particular focus on low- and middle-income countries. Associated with the University of Basel, Swiss TPH combines research, education and services at local, national and international levels. 950 people from 95 nations work at Swiss TPH focusing on infectious and non-communicable diseases, environment, society and health as well as health systems and interventions.

The Department of Medical Parasitology and Infection Biology (MPI) investigates the biology and transmission of pathogens. Findings from this research inform the development of new diagnostics, treatments, and vaccines against malaria, tuberculosis, schistosomiasis, Chagas and other neglected tropical diseases.

This position is part of a project investigating how hospital-associated environments and patient compartments contribute to the evolution, persistence, and transmission of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) genes. By applying high-throughput sequencing and integrative data analysis in clinical and environmental settings across hospitals in Guinea-Bissau, Nigeria, and Côte d’Ivoire, the project aims to reconstruct AMR transmission pathways and identify microbial and environmental drivers of resistance hotspots at the patient-environment interface.

The Cardiopulmonary Physiology And Mechanical Support (CPAMS) Research Group offers this position at the Department of Biomedical Engineering (DBE) at the University of Basel. The DBE is jointly run by the University of Basel and the University and University Children’s Hospitals Basel and combines teaching and research at the interface between natural sciences and medicine in translational biomedical engineering research.
The CPAMS Research Group is looking for a dynamic and independent post-doc interested in computational modelling of cardiovascular and respiratory physiology to improve understanding of critical care physiology and mechanical circulatory support.
