Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Researcher in Hardware Security and Reverse Engineering in Embedded Systems
This researcher position is associated with the Department of Information Security and Communication Technology (IIK) at NTNU Gjøvik under the SFI Norwegian Center for Cybersecurity in Critical Sectors (NORCICS) funding. The research work will be supervised by Associate Professor Arvind Sharma ([email protected]) and other colleagues working on the project.
You will report to the Head of the Department.
Hardware components are crucial for ensuring computing systems’ security, integrity, and reliability, especially in industrial control systems (ICS), as they play a pivotal role in our daily lives and critical infrastructures, transmitting vital information for decision-making processes. To enhance security at the hardware level, it’s essential to understand device vulnerabilities and potential attack vectors. Hardware reverse engineering (HRE) is a method used to gain insights into the inner workings of man-made devices. However, there’s a noticeable gap in educational resources related to hardware security and HRE, including courses, labs, and best practices.
The reverse engineering lab at NTNU Gjovik is being established under NORCICS to address future hardware security challenges by developing innovative methods, tools, and techniques in collaboration with industries, government, and international research institutions. The lab has essential testing equipment for testing hardware security vulnerabilities on embedded systems. In partnership with national/international experts, the HRE lab will be a central hub for various activities. It will establish a physical reversing lab for research, testing, and training, develop a Hardware Security Reverse course for academic and industry use, organise workshop/seminar series on specific topics for partners, and host the annual NTNU Reverse Engineering Forum, providing a vital meeting point for the community.

Postdoc summary/title: Post-doctoral Fellow in Numerical Modelling of Fault Zones – IV-79/25
This post-doctoral position is funded through the Research Council of Norway on the project “Predicting the frictional behaviour of three-dimensional multiphase fault zones” awarded to Prof. Jess McBeck (NTNU). The project will rely on discrete element method numerical modelling and machine learning. The project will collaborate with Prof. Åke Fagereng (Cardiff University).
As rough fault surfaces rub against each other, this abrasion produces rock fragments and powder: fault gouge. This gouge is pervasive in seismogenic fault zones and thus exerts a primary control on earthquake dynamics. Consequently, laboratory experiments have worked to constrain the frictional properties of fault gouge, including the frictional strength and stability. Some evidence indicates a few key parameters that control the frictional behaviour: 1) the development of microstructures or fabrics in the fault gouge, such as Riedel shears, 2) the shape of rock and mineral fragments, such as clay, and 3) the proportion of stronger clasts relative to weaker, flowing material. The primary objective of this project is to predict frictional behaviour from characteristics of fault gouge using machine learning. The secondary objectives include quantifying the relationship between characteristics of the three properties listed above and the frictional behaviour.
The post-doctoral fellow will develop numerical models and machine learning analyses to address these objectives. The project includes funding for the post-doctoral fellow to visit Prof. Fagereng for extended research stays.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Representation Theory
The position is part of the project “Monomorphism categories, finite abelian groups, nilpotent linear operators, and the Birkhoff problem” funded through a Researcher Project for Young Talents grant by The Research Council of Norway (FRIPRO).
A major goal of the project is to develop techniques and tools for studying the Auslander—Reiten theory of monomorphism categories, and to investigate the interactions with other areas of representations theory. The candidate is expected to work on topics related to the project, such as representation theory of monomorphism categories, topological data analysis, and Auslander—Reiten theory.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Researcher Sustainability Assessments of Food Value Chains
We have a vacancy for a temporary research position in Sustainability Assessments, at the Department of Biotechnology and Food Science, NTNU.
We are looking for a researcher in a temporary position (for a duration of 10 months) to work in the EU project Up4Food (Upcycling side-streams for sustainable and healthy ingredients and new food concepts), focused on building knowledge to improve food resource utilization by using a system approach to upcycle processing side-streams from three selected value chains in Europe (potatoes, oil seeds and pelagic fish). The project consortium comprises researchers with different expertise from 5 countries that together with stakeholders in the food system and citizens aim at designing new value chains and food concepts and making toolboxes on technological solutions, sustainability and life cycle assessments for upcycling of side-streams from food production.
In this research position, as a part of the project work, you are expected to contribute to successfully carrying out the research project by conducting research of good quality. You should conduct sustainability assessments using tools like the Sustainable Development Analytical Grid (SDAG), Material Flow Analysis (MFA) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) to evaluate the environmental, sociocultural, and economic aspects of novel food products from side-streams. Additionally, you will engage with stakeholders, generate knowledge that can be used in policy development, and provide insights to improve resource utilization within the food system.
You will work primarily together with the project participants at NTNU, located at the department of Biotechnology and Food Science at the NV faculty, NTNU located in Trondheim. And, you will be reporting to the project manager, and the task leader.
Deadline : 22nd June 2025
