11 Postdoctoral Fellowship at Saint Louis University, Missouri, USA

The postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at Saint Louis University School of Medicine will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary research team focused on investigating the epidemiology of suicide/self-harm, suicide prevention, intervention, and other pertinent mental health issues. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing research projects while also pursuing their own research agenda in line with the department’s objectives.

Post-Doctoral Scientist

1) Support the core facility’s daily operation (35%)

a) Maintain a customer-service-focused environment

b) Provide support in either a self-service or full-service core facility

c) Coordinate and manage equipment and facilities with users

d) Clean, service, calibrate, and check equipment for proper function

i) Perform daily activities to prepare for experimental protocols and facility operation

e) Perform periodic preventative maintenance on facility instrumentation

f) Adhere and contribute to facility safety

g) May be designated Safety Coordinator for the core facility

h) Manage chemical waste by ensuring appropriate waste containers, maintaining waste labels, and filing waste disposal requests

2) Facilities, Equipment, and Information Management (35%)

a) Build and maintain operational knowledge of all the core facility instrumentation.

b) Provide expert knowledge in two of the core facility’s technologies, such as SEM, AFM, Raman microscopy, or UPLC-QToF.

c) Support teaching labs in assigned techniques and instrumentation as needed

d) Provide advanced education and training to core facility users and staff on highly specialized equipment or technology

e) Perform procedures and experiments using the facility’s specialized equipment or services consistent with the facility’s protocols

f) Supervise sample preparation and storage in the core facility

g) Create, update, or make improvements to standard operating procedures

h) Develop customized sample acquisition and data analysis methods for users

i) Troubleshoot equipment failures, procure repair parts, implement repairs, supervise field service, and test equipment for proper function after repairs

j) Support the use and maintenance of the facility computer systems and specialized instrument control and analysis software, facility data server, and/or researcher’s data server accounts, data backup and archiving, and online reservation system and/or researcher’s reservation accounts

k) Maintain appropriate documentation of core facility activities

l) Create and maintain collaborative relationships with other facilities in the university

m) Create quotations and invoices for core facility instrument usage

n) Consult with students and investigators on project design and experimental setup

3) Research (30%)

a) Maintain collaborations with external investigators

b) Contribute to the progress of assigned research projects through consultation, experimental design and implementation, and data analysis

c) Remain current on emerging techniques, software programs, and instrumentation in the field of expertise

d) Perform data analysis for researchers using specialized data analysis software in a form useful for further statistical analysis or publication

e) At the request of investigators, review methods sections of research papers related to the core facility’s specialty that will be submitted for publication

f) At the request of investigators, support the writing of grants including writing descriptions of experimental designs and determining the costs associated with performing experiments.

The DiPaolo Lab at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, MO, is seeking a full-time postdoctoral research associate in the fields of inflammation, immunology and autoimmunity. We investigate inflammation, autoimmunity, and cancer. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and intellectually invested. They will have the opportunity to pursue their own ideas that are relevant to the overall goals of the lab and drive their own research projects. Dr. DiPaolo is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Molecular Microbiology and Immunology (MMI).

MMI houses a diverse variety of research groups studying virology, innate and adaptive immune responses in the context of viral infection, cancer, and autoimmunity. MMI is a highly collaborative community, meaning the successful candidate will have the opportunity to form relationships with many different laboratory groups and faculty members.

The Ferris lab at Saint Louis University in St. Louis, MO, is seeking a full-time postdoctoral research associate in the fields of tumor immunology and autoimmunity. We study the dendritic cells required to mount adaptive T cell responses in the context of tumors and autoimmunity to better understand tumor evolution and identify novel therapeutic strategies that can improve patient outcomes. The successful candidate will be highly motivated and intellectually invested.
