(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Researcher in Functional Cancer Microbiome through the NORPOD program

The post-doctoral project aims to uncover genetic and adaptive mechanisms of the tumour associated microbiome in colon cancer (CRC) and its metastasis to distant organs. The goal is to identify microbial strain specific differences in CRC-associated strains using matched oral, normal and tumour samples and their clinical impact. The aim is to validate these CRC-associated strains using state-of-the-art organoid cultures and novel in vivo mouse models to assess their influence on tumor growth and metabolic rewiring in driving CRC. Finally, we will move beyond correlations to identify functional microbial changes with comparative microbial genomics, indels and SNPs. Our groups have relevant expertise in the above technologies, for example Rafa lab’s expertise in in vivo cancer biology, mouse and organoid models and Dwibedi lab’s expertise in human microbiome genomics and microbial adaptive evolution.

Deadline : 15.8.2025

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Single-Cell Genomics through the NORPOD program

The aim of the project is to investigate how mutations in chromatin-modifying genes, a common cause of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), lead to shared disruptions in early human neurodevelopment. Using induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived human neurons with targeted gene knockouts, we will apply multimodal single-cell and spatial profiling—including RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, cell morphology imaging, and spatial transcriptomics—to identify altered cell states and mis-patterning events. The aim is to integrate computational and experimental approaches, including validation in vivo, to uncover convergent gene regulatory mechanisms, with the goal of informing therapeutic strategies.

(05) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Researcher in Cell and Developmental Biology, Shimmi group

A postdoctoral position is available in the lab of Dr. Osamu Shimmi at the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Helsinki, Finland. We are seeking a motivated and skilled researcher to join our team in the field of cell and developmental biology.

Our team uses the developing wing of the Drosophila melanogaster as a model system to investigate how tissue morphogenesis and intercellular communication are regulated (1-3).
The successful candidate will focus on the dynamics and molecular mechanisms of the Interplanar Amida Network (IPAN) – a membrane protrusion network – using a multidisciplinary approach that includes advanced bioimaging and image analysis, cell biology and genetics, and omics technologies.

About The University of Helsinki, Finland – Official Website

The University of Helsinki  is a university located in Helsinki, Finland since 1829, but founded in the city of Turku (in Swedish Åbo) in 1640 as the Royal Academy of Åbo, at that time part of the Swedish Empire. It is the oldest and largest university in Finland with the widest range of disciplines available. In 2018, around 31,200 students were enrolled in the degree programs of the university spread across 11 faculties and 11 research institutes.

As of 1 August 2005, the university complies with the harmonized structure of the Europe-wide Bologna Process and offers bachelor, master, licenciate, and doctoral degrees. Admission to degree programmes is usually determined by entrance examinations, in the case of bachelor’s degrees, and by prior degree results, in the case of master and postgraduate degrees. Entrance is particularly selective (circa 15% of the yearly applicants are admitted). It has been ranked a top 100 university in the world according to the 2016 ARWU, QS and THE rankings.

The university is bilingual, with teaching by law provided both in Finnish and Swedish. Since Swedish, albeit an official language of Finland, is a minority language, Finnish is by far the dominating language at the university. Teaching in English is extensive throughout the university at master, licentiate, and doctoral levels, making it a de facto third language of instruction.

Remaining true to its traditionally strong Humboldtian ethos, the University of Helsinki places heavy emphasis on high-quality teaching and research of a top international standard. It is a member of various prominent international university networks, such as Europaeum, UNICA, the Utrecht Network, and is a founding member of the League of European Research Universities.
