(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Scholar, Masculinities Studies in Education

This position will work closely in collaboration with Dr. Michael Kehler, Werklund Research Professor of Masculinities Studies and provides an opportunity to develop the current research agenda within Masculinities Studies in Education. Research, current and ongoing, addresses areas intersecting masculinities and gender more broadly with specific lines of inquiry into: body image, adolescent masculinities, homophobia, sport, physical health education, and allyship. This is not an exhaustive list and is open to further areas of inquiry that build on already established research. In addition to building a clear research agenda, the candidate will work closely with Dr. Kehler to develop and submit collaborative research grants at both the provincial and national level. With a focus on research development, publications and scholarship, the successful candidate will have demonstrated a strong emerging research record and moreover, demonstrate excellent initiative in both analytical, organizational, and writing abilities. 

In addition to scholarly writing the position lends itself to considerable knowledge mobilization in both the academic and more general public arenas. Under the guidance of Dr. Kehler, the candidate will participate in collaborative efforts to develop, create, and mobilize research in accessible ways.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar: Strengths-Based Approaches to Girls & Women with ADHD

A full-time Postdoctoral Scholar (PDS) opportunity is available at the University of Calgary, Canada, to begin on or about September 1, 2025 under the supervision of Dr Emma Climie. This PDS will contribute to a variety of projects aimed at a gaining deeper insight into the strengths and experiences of individuals with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) across the lifespan, with a focus on girls/women.

There are multiple research avenues for PDS involvement, with potential opportunities in:

  • Supporting the development and implementation of a large national study examining the strengths of girls/women with ADHD, including consideration of social-emotional mental health and well-being, diagnostic experiences, and life events
  • Examining the strengths, stigmatization, and experiences of children & youth with ADHD and their families
  • Exploring the strengths of emerging adults with ADHD across contexts
  • Collaborating with partner organizations to carry out national research projects related to knowledge of ADHD, stigma, and knowledge translation

The PDS will have the opportunity to collaborate on projects with researchers from various faculties across campus (e.g., psychology, medicine, community health), as well as community organizations and institutions across the country. They will have access to existing data sets as well as ongoing data collection and will be encouraged to expand their own research in these areas through the development of complementary research projects. The PDS will be supported in the supervision of junior students, manuscript creation, sharing of research findings (e.g., conferences, community presentations), scholarship and grant applications, and career guidance. Teaching opportunities also exist, if of interest to the successful candidate, but are not a requirement of the position.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar, Medical Genetics/Genomics/C. elegans

The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology in the Cumming School of Medicine at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar focused on high throughput identification of genetic modifiers, genetic interactions, using a model organism, Caenorhabditis elegans.

The available position is part of the multidisciplinary research program in the Tarailo-Graovac group which combines human and model organism (Caenorhabditis elegans) genomics and traditional molecular genetics approaches to understand genetic modifiers of rare human disease with focus on diseases related to centriole biogenesis deficiencies. We also study diseases related to deficiencies in mRNA biogenesis. We utilize high throughput genetic screens, whole genome sequencing, transcriptome sequencing and CRISPR/Cas9 knock-out and knock-in methods to better understand human disease.

We are looking for a creative and highly motivated postdoctoral fellow with strong interest in genetic interactions, human disease, penetrance/expressivity, phenotype-genotype correlations and deeper understanding of the mechanisms associated with proper centriole function or mechanisms related to proper mRNA biogenesis. The ideal candidate will have expertise in C. elegans molecular techniques and a passion for research.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Senior Research Associate, Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering in the Schulich School of Engineering invites applications for a Senior Research Associate. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 24 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

Reporting to the Principal Investigator, the candidate will conduct high quality research in the area of hydrological modelling and prediction. The primary purpose is to assist the Principal Investigator and support the research team through providing skilled technical procedures such as the design of laboratory experiments as well as computational analysis to assist in the goals of the research. The person will record findings to collaborate on publications within the field of research in both a national and international level. 

The position of is a full-time appointment, 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 7 hours per day. Flexible work hours and remote working arrangements are possible to accommodate critical deadlines. The working location is 2500 University Drive NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1N4 and language of work is English.

(06) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar – Department of Biological Sciences

The Department of Biological Sciences in the Faculty of Science invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in neuroscience or a related field.

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Scholar with a strong background in neuroscience, neurodevelopmental conditions, and genetics. This opportunity is available immediately and the successful candidate will play a leading role in interdisciplinary research aimed at determining the impact of prenatal alcohol exposure on genetic diseases. This will take the form of exploring outcomes in ongoing cohorts of individuals with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), utilizing existing biobank datasets, as well as screening for the interactive effects of alcohol exposure in genetic mutant rodent models.

The successful candidate will join Dr. Bodnar’s Health Generations Research laboratory, which broadly examines how a variety of exposures and experiences alter neurodevelopment and how this impacts risk vs. resilience to health conditions, including mental health problems, over the lifespan. The research involves a translational approach, including the use of pre-clinical animal models and studies involving clinical populations, and Indigenous community partnerships.

The position is located at the University of Calgary (main campus), with regular (1 – 3 times/week) travel to the Child Development Centre (Alberta Children’s Hospital).

(07) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral Scholar_Metagenomics of Oil Field Samples, Faculty of Science

The postdoc will be part of an interdisciplinary research team that uses metagenomics and molecular biology to track and analyze environmental and industrial samples. The postdoc will join a large and dynamic team that enjoys close collaboration with other researchers in environmental microbiology and public health microbiology, spanning different departments and faculties at the University of Calgary. This research culture includes collaboration with industry from large global corporations to local start-ups working on energy and environment related issues.

The successful applicant will join the Geomicrobiology Group led by Prof. Casey Hubert consisting of approximately 20 other researchers (staff, post docs, graduate students and undergraduate students). The post-doc will have opportunity to collaborate within this team, mentor students and interact with corporate industry seeking solutions and input on geomicrobiology challenges and opportunities. The Geomicrobiology Group has funding from Mitacs, NSERC, Genome Canada and other industry and government sources. The post-doc will have the chance to contribute to funding applications, as well as prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals based on research findings.

The successful candidate will be based at the University of Calgary and their research will focus on archived samples from oil industry assets (e.g., pipelines, oil reservoirs, tanks, water samples) and performing DNA extraction, metagenomic sequencing, bioinformatic analysis, and digital PCR assay design and testing. Hydrogenase-containing bacteria and archaea as well as sulfate-reducing bacteria and archaea are high priorities for this project; these bacteria can cause corrosion in traditional oil field contexts as well as related to renewable energy applications involving underground H2 storage where additional risks include resource degradation via hydrogenotrophic metabolism.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate, Department of Medicine

The Research Associate’s primary responsibility will be to lead research activities for various research and innovation projects in the PEP-C Lab. It is anticipated that the Research Associate will support 2-3 projects at any given time. This position works closely with the Principal Investigator in areas of protocol development, standard operating protocol development, development of research projects and proposals, data collection and analysis and writing research grants proposals and manuscripts This position requires discretionary decision making, professionalism and comfort interacting with our collaborators including healthcare stakeholders and healthcare providers and has the potential to impact the integrity and success of the PEP-C Lab. Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Senior Research Associate, Community Health Sciences

The Senior Research Associate will play a critical role in the high-level leadership of the group, working closely with the Principal Investigator to determine the course of the group. This will include contributing to research and funding strategies, identifying and helping to secure funding opportunities and shaping the vision, direction and structure of the group.
The Senior Research Associate will play a key role in all activities undertaken by the research team spanning from hands-on technical tasks to high level leadership and visioning.
