11 Postdoctoral Fellowship at Technical University of Munich, Germany

We are seeking a postdoc to lead RMG-assisted development of detailed oxidation mechanisms for 2,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (R1234yf) and trans-1,3,3,3-tetrafluoropropene (R1234ze(E)). The position combines mechanism building and validation with algorithm and database contributions to RMG, supported by electronic-structure data from literature, and, where needed, new calculations, extensions to rate rules and training reactions for halogenated species, improved pressure-dependence workflows, family trees, and data quality checks. Additional activities include supervising students and teaching.

For RPS, we are developing a sensor suite to measure the electrical permittivity and temperature of lunar regolith, supporting the search for water on the Moon. RPS will be part of the Rashid-3 rover by MBRSC (UAE) and is expected to be launched to the Moon in 2028. Your tasks will include instrument development from TRL 5 to 8, test and characterisation of the instrument performance in a relevant environment (thermal-vacuum), scientific analysis and publication of the results, and contributing to the project management. The focus of your tasks will lie on the infrared sensing unit of RPS to determine the temperature of the surface regolith.

Darunter fallen die Vorbereitung, Durchführung und Auswertung partizipativer und Diskurs-Formate wie Prototyping-Workshops mit Bürger*innen (z.B. Sitzmöbel, Begrünung, Beschilderung, Beschattung, etc.), empirische Feldstudien unter Verwendung von Methoden wie Befragungen und Interviews zu Themen wie Gesundheitsbewusstsein und stadträumlicher Gestaltung. Zudem umfasst ihre Arbeit auch die Kommunikation, Evaluation und Übertragung der Erkenntnisse aus der quantitativen und qualitativen Begleitforschung in transferierbare oder skalierbare Handlungsempfehlungen und Lösungsansätze, und zwar im Rahmen projektspezifischer Formate, im Rahmen des Bayerischen Klimaforschungsnetzwerks, der studentischen Lehre, sowie auf nationalen und internationalen Konferenzen und in Publikationen. Zudem bringen Sie sich in unserem internationalen und interdisziplinären Team aktiv in die Weiterentwicklung der Professur sowie in die akademische Selbstverwaltung ein.

As a senior member of our research team, you will take intellectual and operational leadership for key technical and methodological work packages:

• Drive technical outcomes and provide quality assurance for research and software development tasks
• Define the overall architecture of the VIOLET research prototype, focusing on its role as a methodological demonstrator and ensuring interoperability with Medical Informatics Initiative (MII)/FHIR standards
• Design and implement methodological concepts and software for benchmarking frameworks for AI evaluation
• Independently develop and implement research ideas within the VIOLET research framework
• Work closely with clinicians and data scientists to ensure the developed systems meet clinical needs and are validated against real-world scenarios
• Mentor and supervise PhD candidates and student assistants
• Contribute to project governance and represent the project in steering committee meetings

• Conduct high-quality, independent research related to innovation, sustainability, and transformative change related to the TransforM research agenda.
• Coordinate research activities within Focus Area 1, including collaboration with PIs, doctoral research-ers, and external partners across TUM, LMU, MPI, ifo, and ZEW.
• Contribute to joint publications, workshops, scientific exchange formats, and reporting within the Cluster of Excellence.
• Support strategic and administrative coordination processes within Focus Area 1.

Integrating artificial intelligence into maritime engines powered by alternative fuels like hydrogen significantly enhances operational efficiency and reduces emissions. AI systems can continuously analyze real-time data—such as engine load, fuel flow, and environmental conditions—to optimize combustion and propulsion strategies. This dynamic adjustment ensures that hydrogen, with its unique properties like high flame speed and low ignition energy, is used as efficiently as possible. As a result, vessels can achieve lower fuel consumption and drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, aligning with global decarbonization goals set by the International Maritime Organization. Moreover, AI can simulate and evaluate countless operational scenarios, helping ship operators make informed decisions that balance performance with sustainability.

Equally important, AI helps ensure that hydrogen-fueled engines operate within the strict physical and mechanical constraints inherent to maritime propulsion systems. Hydrogen poses challenges such as pre-ignition risks, material compatibility, and storage under high pressure. To address these challenges, we will develop novel techniques for provably safe reinforcement learning. This project is conducted in close collaboration with Everllence (formally known as MAN Energy Solutions). The developed methods have to be tested in simulation and on real engines.

The position is fully funded (TV-L E13, 100%) by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the intended research focuses on defining and measuring a spatial and spatiotemporal notion of quality for map data. We want to establish processes and tools allowing the acquisition of reliable and up-to-date information about the quality of open geodata through the combination of machine learning and multimodal remote sensing.
