The Division of Automatic Control at the Department of Electrical Engineering invites applications for a postdoctoral position in optimal motion planning and model predictive control (MPC) under uncertainty for autonomous systems. The research aims to develop state-of-the-art numerical methods for solving challenging belief-space optimal motion planning problems and their receding-horizon counterpart in the form of stochastic and belief-space MPC for motion planning. A key focus is on how sensing and state estimation should be actively planned to enable overall optimal motions. The problem will be approached by integrating state-of-the-art methods known from AI with corresponding methods known from optimal control and MPC. In addition, the group’s expertise in structure-exploiting optimization algorithms will be used to improve the performance of the numerical methods also for this class of problems.

As a research engineer for machine learning in materials science, you will work in close collaboration with members of the WASP-WISE pilot project on predicting moisture content in timber drying using machine learning. The role involves contributing to this research project with a focus on model development, implementation, and testing. Further tasks involve dataset curation, analyzing results, and the creation of visualizations and presentations of research findings.

As a research engineer in flight logistics, you will work in close collaboration with researchers and doctoral students within the division. The role involves contributing to ongoing research projects focused on modeling, simulation, and analysis of flight operations, particularly in areas related to fuel consumption and future urban air transport systems.

Your tasks will include developing, adapting, and testing computational tools, including directing drones via software. You will also contribute to data collection, result processing, and the creation of visualizations and presentations of research findings.

As a Postdoc in Education with a specialisation in digital humanities, you will work in the research programme The Folk high School as Mirrors of Society: Sociological Perspectives on the Educational Offerings of Folk High Schools 1868-2018. The work involves contributing to the development of the project’s digital infrastructure and analysing the Swedish folk high school based on large-scale data. You will have the opportunity to develop and apply data-driven methods, handle large digital archives, develop visualisation solutions and contribute to the research programme’s infrastructure.

You will work across several system levels within the area of electrified construction logistics systems. This includes the vehicle perspective, such as simulating range or downtime for charging, as well as analyzing how the demand for electricity supply to both construction sites and charging stations is influenced by different system solutions. Methods to be used include data analysis, modeling, simulation, and optimization.

The research is part of a larger project that also, in addition to your work, involves action research and qualitative analyses. The research will be conducted in close collaboration with industry partners, including Volvo Construction Equipment. Therefore, your tasks will include not only conducting research and publishing within your field, but also communicating and interacting with other stakeholders to place the research in a broader system perspective.
