(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoctoral position in History of Philosophy at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen

The postdoc will contribute to the ERC-funded project “Women in the Nordic Enlightenment (WHENCE). Changing the narratives of early modern philosophy and uncovering women’s contribution to Scandinavian gender equality” led by PI Sabrina Ebbersmeyer. The core of this project is to bring to light and critically assess women’s intellectual contribution to the Nordic Enlightenment by examining a text corpus consisting of unpublished material and published texts written by more than a hundred women in Scandinavia. The guiding hypothesis is that the Nordic way of women’s Enlightenment significantly differs from developments prevalent in other regions of Europe, and that women played a decisive role in creating a sustainable identification of the Nordic countries with gender equality.

The expert on “Female Rule” will explore the impact of women of the high nobility, especially queens, on the perception of female rule and women in power. It will investigate the writings of queens (correspondences and autobiographies), women’s writings dedicated to queens and laudatory poems, and texts about exemplary female rulers. Complementary, university dissertations addressing female rule will be assessed. Analysing the clash between established gender roles and female ruler, this part will also address questions concerning gender fluidity.

(09) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Plant Biochemistry

The field of biological nitrification inhibitors (BNIs) has gained increasing attention over the past decades as a promising strategy to mitigate fertilizer-derived greenhouse gas emissions in the global north and improve yields with reduced nitrogen inputs in the global south. Yet, despite more than 20 years of research, only a limited number of BNI compounds have been identified and characterized, and their precise mode of action remains largely unknown [8]. This lack of mechanistic insight hampers the integration of BNI traits into breeding programs.

The project aims to build a knowledge base on Biological compounds with Nitrification Inhibition (BNI) capacity in Danish cereals and their wild relatives to support the development of varieties with natural nitrification inhibition capacity and reduced reliance on chemical inputs.

This project combines bioinformatics, biochemistry, molecular biology and plant transformation to characterize the BNI trait in sorghum for re-introduction into agricultural relevant cultivars.

(10) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in the discovery of small antimicrobial phage proteins

The ongoing crisis of antibiotic-resistant bacteria demands innovative approaches to find and develop new antimicrobial solutions. Bacteriophages, viruses that infect bacteria, provide a unique opportunity to discover new antimicrobials, as their interactions can inhibit bacterial growth or cause bacterial death. The primary objective of this research is to develop next-generation antibacterial agents by utilizing bacteriophage proteins and their engineered derivatives.

The postdoc position focuses on identifying new antibacterial proteins and peptides from bacteriophage genomes through a systematic bioinformatic pipeline, followed by experimental characterization of their inhibitory potential and understanding their mode of action. Close collaboration with another postdoctoral researcher will further enable the engineering of identified candidates. Also, methodologies will be shared among the two postdocs and the PhD student employed, ensuring efficient resource use and maximizing scientific output. We expect you to explore the antimicrobial potential of phage proteins and contribute to other projects within the PHAGEBio research group.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in Young Adult Health and Complexity

The position will be nested within the Young Adult Health group in the Center, where we study real-world health complexities among young adults. The health and social issues that arise during this life period affect not only the individual but also their families, their workplaces, and may have long-lasting effects on later health and social trajectories. However, the causes and consequences of these health and social issues are intertwined, complex, and often understudied; thus, fundamental questions related to the health and social issues experienced by young adults remain unanswered. By illuminating the distinct patterns and characteristics of the health and social issues in this age group, we aim to address the underlying dynamics that contribute to these problems.

About The University of Copenhagen, Denmark – Official Website

The University of Copenhagen is a public research university in Copenhagen, Denmark. Founded in 1479, the University of Copenhagen is the second-oldest university in Scandinavia, and ranks as one of the top universities in the Nordic countries and Europe.

Its establishment sanctioned by Pope Sixtus IV, the University of Copenhagen was founded by Christian I of Denmark as a Catholic teaching institution with a predominantly theological focus. In 1537, it was re-established by King Christian III as part of the Lutheran Reformation. Up until the 18th century, the university was primarily concerned with educating clergymen. Through various reforms in the 18th and 19th century, the University of Copenhagen was transformed into a modern, secular university, with science and the humanities replacing theology as the main subjects studied and taught.

The University of Copenhagen consists of six different faculties, with teaching taking place in its four distinct campuses, all situated in Copenhagen. The university operates 36 different departments and 122 separate research centres in Copenhagen, as well as a number of museums and botanical gardens in and outside the Danish capital. The University of Copenhagen also owns and operates multiple research stations around Denmark, with two additional ones located in Greenland. Additionally, The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences and the public hospitals of the Capital and Zealand Region of Denmark constitute the conglomerate Copenhagen University Hospital.

A number of prominent scientific theories and schools of thought are namesakes of the University of Copenhagen. The famous Copenhagen Interpretation of quantum mechanics was conceived at the Niels Bohr Institute, which is part of the university. The Department of Political Science birthed the Copenhagen School of Security Studies, which is also named after the university. Others include the Copenhagen School of Theology and the Copenhagen School of Linguistics.
