(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Postdoc in genetics of arthropod vector – pathogen interactions 80 – 100 %

The Vector Entomology Unit at the Institute of Parasitology focuses on research on vectorial capacity, behaviour and bionomics of arthropod vectors (mosquitoes, biting midges, ticks). Our lab acts as the Swiss National Centre for Vector Entomology (NZVE), as appointed by the Swiss Federal Food Safety and Veterinary Office. In particular, the NZVE is involved in the early recognition of vector-borne epizootics and zoonoses and provides expertise for the identification of arthropod vectors in Switzerland. The successful candidate will have the flexibility to develop its own research lines within the mandate of the NZVE.

One of our interests is the thermal behaviour of infected vectors. We have demonstrated that pathogens can change the thermal behaviour of mosquito vectors according to environemntal changes (e.g., climate change. Based on this observation, we aim to characterise the (epi)genetic and immunological determinants of vector behaviour and the interaction with the pathogen.
