(01) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title:  Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Discrete Element Modelling of Pharmaceutical Processes

The post holder will develop and implement mechanistic models to analyse and predict the behaviour of pharmaceutical processes. Your work will address key challenges within these processes, constructing robust models and simulations that deepen the understanding of the underlying physics involved. The ultimate goal is to create predictive, physics-based models that optimise and control pharmaceutical manufacturing processes effectively. Your main responsibility is to develop and enhance discrete element models (DEM), integrating physics-based mechanistic models to simulate complex fluid and particulate systems.

(02) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc summary/title: Research Fellow in Generative Semantic and Token Communication Technologies for Future Wireless Networks

The Institute for Communication Systems (ICS), home of the 6G Innovation Centre (6GIC), is looking to recruit a full-time Research Fellow to work on Generative and Token-based Semantic Communication Technologies for Future Wireless Networks (this is a fixed term contract upto Sept 2027).

For this opening, the successful candidate will be required to have research experience in wireless communication systems as well as familiarity with design and training of state-of-the-art large generative AI models, e.g. Diffusion Models, Multimodal Large Language Models, etc. The area of specialization for this post is Generative Semantic and Token Communication Technologies for Future Wireless Networks.

ICS is the largest academic research institute in Europe specialising in all aspects of ICT (Information and Communication Technologies). It is home to over 200 researchers with expertise in all communication and broadcasting systems and has developed the best-in-class large scale testbeds for research and innovation and enjoys the state-of-the-art lab and computing facilities.

Established in 2012, 5GIC is the world’s first dedicated centre in researching end-to-end aspects of 5G and works closely with national and international leading academic institutes and key industrial partners. In November 2020, 6GIC was officially launched with parallel research undertaken in both 5G+ and 6G for 2030+.

(03) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow in Solid Oxide Electrolysers: Fabrication & Performance

Applications are invited for a Research Fellow in the Energy and Materials research group in the School of Chemistry and Chemical and Process Engineering at the University of Surrey.

The position is funded by an EPSRC grant APP39869: Multi-stack tubular solid oxide steam electrolyser (METASIS 2.0). The project will be led by Dr Bahman Horri in collaboration with Robert Gordon University (RGU). METASIS is a collaborative research programme advancing next-generation solid oxide steam electrolyser (SOSE) technology for clean hydrogen production. Led by Robert Gordon University in partnership with the University of Surrey, Aston University, and the UK National Nuclear Laboratory (UKNNL), the project unites national and international academic and industrial partners to concentrate on innovative metasurface-engineered tubular designs, advanced ceramic manufacturing, and high-temperature performance evaluation.

The project involves developing a mini-scale tubular high-temperature solid oxide steam electrolyser stack for efficient hydrogen production using an innovative meta-surface catalyst and cell design approach, with advanced techniques such as thermal-spray coating and screen-printing/spin-coating.

(04) Postdoctoral Fellowship Position

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Fellow A in Clinical Psychology

The main purpose of the job is to undertake research and support the delivery of the OSMOSIS research programme as required. OSMOSIS is funded by the National Institute of Health and Care Research. The aim of OSMOSIS is to co-produce resources and toolkits to improve the support available to family/informal carers for a relative affected by psychosis. The OSMOSIS programme comprises three work packages: (i) a service mapping exercise in three local boroughs across East London and East Sussex; (ii) a qualitative study using individual interviews with carers and focus groups with various staff to explore carers’ experiences of accessing social care support; and (iii) co-production and sharing of outputs with associated toolkits to improve and facilitate support for carers.

The research programme is jointly led by researchers at the University of Surrey and City St George’s, with further co-investigators based in University of Kent and community organisations. There will be a second Post-Doctoral Research Fellow based at City St George’s, and the two Fellows will work closely for the duration of the research programme. Both postholders will work on all three of the programme’s work packages, taking the lead for their respective areas. Main duties will include establishing and strengthening collaboration with local community carer organisations, carer support workers, conducting desktop and site-based service mapping exercise, qualitative data collection and analysis, and working closely with the PPI Leads in co-producing outputs and associated toolkits to aid implementation. There will be opportunities to contribute to and lead academic papers and presentations at dissemination events.

About The University of Surrey, England – Official Website

The University of Surrey is a public research university in Guildford, England. The university received its royal charter in 1966, along with a number of other institutions following recommendations in the Robbins Report. The institution was previously known as Battersea College of Technology and was located in Battersea Park, London. Its roots however, go back to Battersea Polytechnic Institute, founded in 1891 to provide further and higher education in London, including its poorer inhabitants. The university’s research output and global partnerships have led to it being regarded as one of the UK’s leading research universities.

The university is a member of the Association of MBAs and is one of four universities in the University Global Partnership Network. It is also part of the SETsquared partnership along with the University of Bath, the University of Bristol, the University of Southampton and the University of Exeter. The university’s main campus is on Stag Hill, close to the centre of Guildford and adjacent to Guildford Cathedral. Surrey Sports Park is situated at the nearby Manor Park, the university’s secondary campus. Among British universities, the University of Surrey had the 14th highest average UCAS Tariff for new entrants in 2015.

A major centre for satellite and mobile communications research, the university is in partnership with King’s College London and the University of Dresden to develop 5G technology worldwide. It also holds a number of formal links with institutions worldwide, including the Surrey International Institute, launched in partnership with the Dongbei University of Finance and Economics. The university owns the Surrey Research Park, providing facilities for over 110 companies engaged in research. Surrey has been awarded three Queen’s Anniversary Prizes for its research, with the 2014 Research Excellence Framework ranking 78% of the university’s research outputs as “world leading” or “internationally excellent”. It was named as The Sunday Times University of the Year in 2016.
