Postdoc summary/title: Research Fellow (Mesozoic Palaeobotany & ecophysiology) (Fixed term)
Applications are invited for a Research Fellow to join the University of Nottingham at the Sutton Bonington Campus working as part of a team to deliver a project awarded by Leverhulme Trust to understand plant performance and climate feedback mechanisms in the Middle Jurassic. The project will use an experimental framework, to link plant morphology and chemistry to measurements of ecophysiological performance. These combined datasets will be used to understand how plants performed and were adapted to the Middle Jurassic, a greenhouse episode in Earth history where global mean temperatures were approximately 5-10°C warmer than the 1970-2010 average.
The role will involve the generation of ecophysiological data as measurements of plant performance and generating morphological and anatomical trait data on experimental and fossils plants. These relationships will then be used to explore how plants from the Middle Jurassic were adapted and lived in their greenhouse world.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate/Fellow (Fixed term)
his role will provide support to an ongoing MRC project grant characterising the molecular pharmacology of the P2Y2 receptor (P2Y2R). The P2Y2R is a Class A GPCR physiologically activated by the nucleotides UTP and ATP. Subsequent Gq mediated signalling ultimately drives inflammation, wound healing and cell migration. Aberrant P2Y2R mediated signalling has been implicated in pathological inflammation and fibrosis in progressive diseases such as idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and cancer growth and metastasis. Therapeutic strategies aimed at modulating P2Y2R activity would therefore have considerable utility as anti-inflammatory or anti-fibrotic treatments. However, drug discovery programmes targeting P2Y2R have had limited success due to the low affinity and/or poor bioavailability of compounds which has been further exacerbated by a lack of detailed P2Y2R specific structural information and pharmacological characterisation.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Associate/Fellow in Quantitative and Spatial Metabolomics for Antimicrobial Resistance (Fixed-term)
A position is advertised for a self-motivated and ambitious Research Associate/Fellow to contribute to a major £5M BBSRC Strategic Longer and Larger (sLoLa) Grant investigating the fundamental rules governing impermeability in Gram-negative bacteria. This large-scale, multidisciplinary programme brings together investigators at the University of Nottingham, University of Birmingham, Imperial College London and the Quadram Institute to address antimicrobial resistance through the integration of bacterial membrane biology, efflux systems, antimicrobial accumulation, quantitative mass spectrometry, spatial metabolomics and mathematical modelling. The post is based within the Centre for Analytical Bioscience (CAB) in the School of Pharmacy at the University of Nottingham. CAB houses extensive specialist mass spectrometry instrumentation, including high-resolution Orbitrap platforms (QExactive, Fusion Lumos), triple quadrupole LC-MS/MS systems, and surface and imaging MS technologies (e.g. AP-MALDI-MS and OrbiSIMS), providing a high-quality research environment for metabolomics, lipidomics, fluxomics and spatial molecular analysis.
The Research Associate/Fellow will play a central role in delivering the mass spectrometry and metabolomics components of this nationally significant programme. The role will involve the design and implementation of advanced quantitative and spatial metabolomics workflows to characterise antimicrobial uptake, intracellular accumulation and metabolic responses in Gram-negative bacteria. The successful candidate will work closely with programme investigators across partner institutions to ensure alignment of experimental design, data generation and interpretation across work packages.

Postdoc Fellowship Position summary/title: Research Assistant (Fixed-term)
We seek a predoctoral research assistant to join the Humphries’ group at the University of Nottingham on a BBSRC-funded project to study the neural basis of foraging, in collaboration with the groups of Matthew Apps (Birmingham) and Nathan Lepora (Bristol).
Whether choosing to leave one shop for another, switching TV programs, or seeking berries to eat, humans and other animals make endless stay-or-leave decisions, but how we make them is not well understood. The goal of this project is to find out if there is common cross-species decision algorithm for leaving and what that algorithm is.
You will create predictions for how foragers should vary in their stay-or-leave decisions for different types of decision algorithm. You will then get to test those predictions using data from humans and rodents tackling foraging tasks, to work out which algorithm best explains how foragers decide to leave.
